Outstanding scholar and analyst of Middle Eastern affairs

Rubin is one of those one- man factory scholars who produce a tremendous amount of work on a wide variety of subjects- each
of which is done with excellence. As a popular columnist for the 'Jerusalem Post' he is perhaps the most sane, balanced, insightful
analyst of Middle East affairs now working. His deep knowledge of the Arab world and its thought enable him to understand
fully the often illusionary- elements involved in Western perceptions of this world. He is an expert on Syria and its politics,
has written a biography of Arafat whose tactical game he elucidates with brilliance. But his grasp is in fact of the whole
Middle Eastern area and his insights on its processes of development, or the lack thereof, are however disturbing, accurate
and reliable.

For over three decades William Safire was the leading popular authority on linguistic usage in America. His columns for the
NY Times were little classics of knowledge, humor and insight. A master speech-writer and anthologist of great taste he is
the author of many books connected with Language and its use.
Safire also has been a political pundit of distinction, a civil libertarian on domestic issues and a supporter of strong American foreign policy.

I was totally unaware that a biography about me existed until I came across this on Amazon. It's pretty accurate, too, although not quite up-to-date. Thanks, Amazon! I'm grateful and surprised, and amazed that you would do this.

Extraordinary Biography

Few people know that Andrew Tomas was actually born in Russia and was also a disciple of Nicholas Roerich during the epoch
of the 1930's.
I was actually one of the last disciples of Andrew Tomas and we maintained communication for several years untill his transition. This excellent book covers all the insight information of this mystical writer and his extraordinary books are well renown through out Secret Societies.
Most unfortunate, his wife made it imposible for many people to communicate with him as she was arrogant, ignorant, deceitful and quite sinister! I was amazed at Andrew's having her as a companion, as she personified Satan on earth. The book fails to cover this internal issues, yet it will illuminate others who admire him.
I actually possess few of his original books which were directly signed for me and his personal letters of which we corresponded are of profound wisdom..

What Hans Wilhelm discloses in his autobiography is a rare and special sensitivity and sensibility, a searching mind and a
wondering spirit that has been evident throughout his life from childhood until the present day. He has been able to retain
a childs curiosity and blend it with his vast experience of a life lived with the constant drive to learn more about himself
and the universe in which we are placed. His warmth and his caring shine through this work. Having read many of his childrens
books and enjoyed the wonderful illustrations, this autobiography reflects directly in all the great stories of his works.
His description of the creative process and the interaction with all the people involved in getting a book published are highly personal and very educational.
A great story of a great personality!

Why Wasn't/Isn't Communism Condemned as Much as Nazism?
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-08
Review Date: 2008-09-08
This review of books about Communism, notably Courtois' BLACK BOOK OF COMMUNISM, discusses such things as its criminality,
its totalitarian and non-totalitarian aspects, and causes of its collapse in Europe with and without the existence of sizeable
dissident movements.
Pekacz rejects the premise that the rosy western view of Communism, in the first decades of its rule, stemmed from ignorance about its policies: "Despite the secrecy with which the Soviets were handling their internal affairs, credible reports about the reality of Communism began to make their way to the West in the 1920's and 1930's." (p. 313).
The anti-fascist movement and the western-Soviet alliance against Hitler tended to blunt criticism of Communism in successive decades. But what about the situation since then? Could the Judeocentric emphasis on Jewish victimization at the expense of non-Jewish victims of the Nazis have extended to the tacit de-valuation of Communist genocide? Pekacz comments: "Claiming that Communist crimes deserve the same recognition as Nazi crimes has been interpreted by some as an attempt to divert the attention of the general public from its preoccupation with fascism and the Holocaust. Communist crimes are presented as competing for primacy in public memory and imagination with the Holocaust, the symbol of ultimate human evil." (p. 312).
