We are not crazy when we "hear" from our loved ones, and this book gives the reader the confidence to know it. The stories related are from real people, telling real incidents of connections from their loved ones after their death. This book is a positive affirmation that love never dies, and that the connections with a loved one are not a coincidence. Well-written!

FINALLY, VALIDATION FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE NEVER BELIEVED IN COINCIDENCE - AND WHO BELIEVE THE BONDS OF LOVE TRANSCEND ALL BOUNDERIES. SO WELL WRITTEN, IT WAS HARD TO PUT DOWN. IT BRINGS THE TOPIC OUT OF THE DARK AGES AND INTO THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY.

A MUST READ FOR ANYONE WHO HAS LOST SOMEONE THEY TRULY LOVE.

An impressive, well-organized and thought-provoking collection of paranormal events as described by those who experienced those events. The author has done an impressive job of organizing the material contributed by those who confronted that which is hard to explain, but, for the most part, welcomed, finding reassurance both in this life and beyond.

Although my interest in the paranormal and otherworldly has waned in my adulthood, I picked up this book and found that you don't have to be a believer to be moved by the stories within. This book is a compilation of accounts written by those who have experienced encounters of some kind, ones that are by turns chilling, humourous, but can also prove poignant. As per the title of the book, the stories revolve around after death communication, and whether you are cynical about the possibility of such a thing, the stories are still touching in their underlying message that death might seem to be an end unto itself, but that one can still find comfort in the belief that those you love might be out there somewhere still, watching over you. Even if you aren't looking for such depth and simply want an enjoyable read, still check out this book. Although the writers aren't professional authors, the stories are still well-written and the editor has done a great job in compiling them in a way that will deliver the best read possible. Recommended!

"A Beginner's Guide to Life After Death" was written through automatic writing. The author, Peter Shires, received communication through several "spirits", 2 of whom shared a great amount of information re: life both here, and on the "other side".

Much of the information concerns "universal laws" - how they work, and how they impact us. Two of the "laws" covered are that of cause and effect, and karma - however several others are discussed as well.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in spirituality & after-death communications. It's an easy read, and yet is filled to the brim with great spiritual insights. A word of caution though - an open mind is a must!

This book opens the door to experience the world on the other side. It is not full of content, but expresses a true resonance of the spiritual world in which Sigwart lives. Absolutely...a tranforming experience.

This was the first book that got me interested in the near death experience studies. It is fasinating and once you read it, unlike many other books, you will not forget it. You will find yourself thinking of it long after you read the last page. Highly recommended.

Recommend this book inna heartbeat. Well written, easy to read, opens the heart. Keep kleenex handy, but they're easy tears, from feeling all the love, not hard tears. Critters are a bargain, for just a little food and shelter, you get all that love. If you know anyone who abuses their Critters, tell them to stop, okay?

This is the first book I read on the subject and I really liked it. Dr. Carla lists tens of Death Bed Visions which are indeed convincing and beautiful. They make you realize that death is not that horrible and frightening at all. The dying person sees deceased relatives, angels, and loved ones and actually wants to go to them. They see the wonderful light that awaits for them on the other side and they see that [over there] there is nothing to be afraid of. After you read this book you will understand how unfair it is that society does not accept the DBVs and the death subject in general. How our own religion rejects them, and wonder why, since they preach that death is not the end! Let alone the scientists (and stay away from most of them) who always find a...scientific answer for every question. But as beautifully stated in the book already, if those visions are only by-products of the dying brain, how come the dying person sees only deceased ones, and never loved ones who are still alive?

I only wish I had this book when my beloved grandmother died and was so much frightened of death. I would be able to explain her a few things I learned from this wonderful book, and provide her some comfort.

It is amazing. It proved that we don't die alone at all, but a beloved deceased person or persons are there, waiting to help us make it to the other side and we are happy to reunite with them!

The most credible of all on this topic.....and the afterlife

This book provides far more than just research. There are some very intriguing parallels to all the documented cases.

This book is written in a way that it maintains the interest of the existing "Believer" and captures the interest of the curious and perhaps skeptic. Every reader can relate to some witnessed event in this book. Perhaps not aware of what may have taking place at the time....now enlightened.

I found this refreshingly real and hard to put down Especially in comparison to other popular books about the afterlife that had a commercial edge and were almost trying to "sell" a belief.

Dr. Carla has an impressive fan club of people like myself that respect her for her Spiritual insight and general wisdom of well being. I actually reccommend all of her books. She's pretty multi-tasked!

Important topic marred by amateurish writing

I have to agree with another reviewer regarding the substance of this book, or lack thereof; this is a fascinating topic and although the author included some interesting case studies her overuse of irrelevant filler and 'homey' writing style was a real turn-off. If you're looking for a credible, objective analysis of the DBV phenomenon and original research, look elsewhere. You're much better off reading "What They Saw at the Hour of Death", which is where this author got most of her information.Disappointing...

50 WAYS TO GET TO HEAVEN
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-01-23
I have always been skeptical when it comes to stories of life after death. I mean people claim not only to have seen and engaged in conversations with their husbands or wives, but I read a darn interesting book by Brad Steiger in which he tells of ghostly animals. I mean its not easy for an intelligent person to believe such things at face value. And that was certainly my case until I got a copy of this book. My wife had just passed away in a terrible auto accident and I didnt know what to do. We had been together for thirty five years. Someone gave me a copy of this book by Diane and Tim and told me it would uplift my spirits. I felt like anything would help at this point. So I read the book from cover to cover and there wasnt a dry tear in the house. Its a fascinating subject and here is a fascinating approach. Cause you see the authors dont necessarily look at life after death and heaven from a strictly religious point of view. They believe you kind of create your own heaven passed on your experiences here on earth and that there are cities and towns and things you might not expect to see if you had to float for all eternity on a cloud. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a more balanced approach to this topic.

Everyone of his books amaze me. Reading each story of hope and love keeps me striving to listen and see as he does. He speaks to the dead and gives very specific details that no one could possibly know. Sometimes his own clients don't even realize the message until later on.

His new book is just as wonderful!

Buying any of James VP's books is a must! I have them all :)

First, when you read anything from James Van Praagh, you have the sense that he's speaking directly to you. If you are a non believer, please read this book. I guarantee that by the time you reach the end of the book, you won't be so sure anymore. For those who do believe, it is a nice feeling to know that the ones we've loved are not lost to us and that they are continuing their journey.
