Interesting Exploration of More Advanced Flash Features
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-30
I am giving this book a five star review because it has some interesting content, and the author gives the material an original spin. The chapters on Flash 3D, XML, and Swift-Generator were very helpful and dare I say, sometimes insightful. In contrast, I wasn't that excited about the chapters on PHP and MySQL, but by the end, they proved interesting. My biggest problem with the book is its overall lack of organization, and personally, many of the chapters would have been helped by more examples. Bottom line - this is not a cover-to-cover read, but if you want interesting content on some of Flash 5's more advanced features, I would pick it up.

I vacillate between 4 and 5 stars...but it's truly a great book. The technical descriptions of various tools of Flash 5 are quite good. Mr. Woods handled the more complex ActionScripts very well, in ways that I could relate to what he was attempting to do...which was show the incredible versatility of the ActionScripts and explain ways I could utilize the programming. I learned (finally, still with some difficulty) to use the Bezier pen, thanks to Mr. Woods' enthusiastic endorsement, and was able to grasp many of the aspects of Flash that had been somewhat weak for me before. I have read many books on Flash 5 and cartooning, and definitely would recommend this book for a good underpinning of the basics as well as assistance with expert Flash development. Keep up the great work, Mr. Woods.

Strangely wonderful

Children will be delighted by the strange setting of the book as well as the story of Maggie and the Pirate. Maggie lives in an old school bus converted into a house in what appears to be a waterlogged tropical land. People use boats to go to "town," a surreal village on dock pilings, where the stores advertise themselves with signs shaped like the objects they sell. Small children will have a suspenseful and satisfying yet ultimately safe encounter with their first "pirate," a little boy who has built a treehouse in the swamp. First rate.

Having grown up with Bill Pete and Dr. Seus, Maggie and the Pirate is a story to join any children's storybook collection. Though it may seem strange to have a young girl's pet be a cricket the love it there all the same. So when a strange steals Maggie's cricket she goes on a hunt for her beloved pet; and yes, she does find him. However, through the struggle of retreiving him the cricket drowns. Still, both Maggie and the "pirate" reconsile their differences and more than one new friendship is formed.

Making it Big in America is a book that leads you step by step through the processes of setting and achieving your goals. Mr. Wood uses his life experiences to communicate in an entertaining and insightful way his methods of success. Although there are many other books on this subject available, starting with N. Hill's "Think and Grow Rich", I have not found a book that better communicates the success process in a way that I could understand. Mr. Wood goes through the goal setting process in detail and discusses the importance of motivation, action and persistence in making dreams a reality. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is in the process of building a better life, from those who are just beginning this process to those who have been involved in the process for many years.

Great learning tool

Greetings!

You sure named this pattern book correctly, "Making Wheels Easy" is exactly as the name implies. If a person can read and follow instructions, he can make a fine wooden wagon wheel with little difficulty.

At first I thought the $20.00 price of the pattern book was a little high, boy was I wrong! This book is worth every penny of the asking price. A lot of thought and preparation went into putting this book together. The book lays flat when opened to any page. Only one side of a page is printed so you always have a blank facing page for shop notes. The instructions are very easy to follow. It's almost as if you were looking over my shoulder, guiding me every step of the way. The full size patterns are easy to use. The patterns for the jigs, and the jigs themselves, are also very easy to use.

I made two 16 inch wheels using this pattern book. The first one I made was without using the jigs so I could get the "feel" of the project. The second wheel was made using the jigs. Any more wheels I make will be made with the jigs, the time saved, and the improvement in the accuracy of the cuts, make the jigs well worth while. The wheels themselves are well made and very sturdy.

This pattern book, Making Wheels Easy, is much more then a book that teaches someone a very easy way to make wheels. It's a book that opens the doors to all kinds of possibilities. Such as;

A wagon wheel trellis for vines or roses, Wagon wheel lawn furniture, Wagon wheel mailbox stand, Wagon wheels to mark the sides of a driveway, How about a wagon wheel fence? Or fence gates? Wagon wheel lamps, wagon wheel tables, Wagon wheel head and foot boards

The list of possibilities goes on and on. With this book, a few tools, and some lumber, a guy can accomplish a lot.

Thank you for your efforts in the production of such a fine learning tool. I am now ready to move on to your other pattern book, "Working Wagon Wheels"

Windy Hill Woods makes good on the promise implied by the title of its book Making Wheels Easy . This well thought out project book contains accurate templates, clearly written text and illuminating photographic illustrations makes the complex and exacting task of wooden wheel construction easy and enjoyable. Even a slightly below average woodworker such as myself was able to turn out some pretty good looking wheels. Best of all I accomplished this without the frustrations caused by project designers who have never built anything except a pile of papers. It is obvious to me that this book was written by a craftsperson who actually has built wooden wheels. The cautions and warnings in the text anticipate the "hard parts" and warn the woodworker of potential pitfalls The first set I made are on a miniature Prairie Schooner used in a local museum's education program. My wife is already thinking up projects that will incorporate the latest additions to my woodworking skills.

Yes, this is the best Definative Daredevil compilation out there. I bought this and I'm cherishing it. It fits well in ANY bookshelf and is a fantastic read every single time. Not only does Marvel overdo their respects to one of their main heros but also they made this into a visually striking masterpiece. The artwork has been redone to capture the fantastic classic-ness of The Man Without Fear!

Really! If you'd buy each of the comic books presented here, in a deluxe edition, in fine paper, with wonderful color definitions, and in an elegant hardcover, you'd have to pay more than $5,000.

Marvel comics' blind hero's story is told here by master STAN LEE and through its pages you meet The Owl, Electro, Purple Man, etc. A MUST HAVE for DD fans and comic book lovers, and a very entertaining book for starting fans.

This is a great coffee table book that includes many important paintings of Art Institute of Chicago. All the images are in color, and the story of each painting and the artist is given. Each painting is described on a single page, and therefore the pictures are sufficiently large and detailed. The book starts with 15th century religious paintings, and progresses to include well known impressionist paintings such as Seurat's Sunday on La Grande Jatte and Renoir's Two sisters. It also has a section on 20th century paintings. Not a substitute to seeing the actual works, but it is close...

An outstanding introduction to the history of art in general

The Art Institute of Chicago houses a world-renown collection of artwork that spans the complete and diverse spectrum of six centuries of painting. Now in a revised and expanded second edition, Master Paintings In The Art Institute Of Chicago organizes and showcases 149 major paintings (like the Insitute itself) into European, American, and Twentieth-Century categories. This outstanding introduction to the history of art in general, and the Art Insitute of Chicago's impressive collection in particular, would grace any personal, academic, or community library artbook collection.

I tremendously enjoyed reading about the young players that are ready to challenge just about everyone on the PGA tour! I read the book yesterday , just before watching Duval battle it out w/ Tom Lehman- with the other guys just behind him- TIGER, and Leonard! This is a great , fun book to check out!

"Must" reading for all golf fans and players.

Masters Of The Millennium tells the story of how "twenty-something" players Justin Leonard, David Duval, Tiger Woods, and Phil Mickelson are changing the way the game of golf is played as they etch their names onto the leaderboards week after week. These superstar golfers are electrifying galleries on stops all over the tour, and taking the tradition-filled game of golf to an entirely new audience that had not previously followed golf as passionately as they do now. Masters Of The Millennium provides insights from these young players and enables the reader to learn how they respect the players that walked the fairways before them, and why they hold the future of the game into the new millennium. Masters Of The Millennium is "must" reading for all fans and players of the game of golf.

I bought this book to help my son Jonathan see a more zen side to masturbation. Or in fact any other side than the furtive and grubby.

Excellent introduction to moving tantric energy.
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-31
This book has one core teaching, which describes a technique using masturbation to raise erotic energy, and bring it up to the heart (rather than release it in orgasm). Margo is very eloquent on the positive aspects of masturbation, and its benefits in our sex lives generally; she uses the practices in the book to successfully resolve issues in her life regarding relationships and food. It's an easy technique to adopt for beginning tantra practitioners, who may not yet be able to sense chi movement within their body - after 3 months, most everyone can.

It's definitely the simplest beginning tantra practice guide I've yet seen, after reading avidly about tantra for several months. Good stuff!
