Anyone just starting out in litigation needs this book. So much of law school is devoted to analytical thinking and legal theory. When you start practicing, many young lawyers feel unprepared for the nuts and bolts of litigation practice. This book bridges the gap and can be an incredible resource. In addition to explaining the different stages of litigation, the book also provides sample pleadings and forms that are invaluable for getting started and make it well worth the investment.

This book is a fascinating look at the people and times of America circa 1892-1893. The letters and other correspondence of Hosa Knowlton,Prosecuting Attorney of the Southern District of the Commonwealth of Mass. draw a vivid picture of people from all walks of life and their opinions and reactions to the murder of the Borden family. Anyone who has been drawn into the mystique of Lizzie Borden and her times will not regret the time spent with this book.

I found this book quite helpful in understanding the use of communication in dispute resolution. The material is presented clearly and intelligently, but not in an intimidating manner; it is understandable. The material itself is thorough, with several documented studies and examples to illustrate the points made. All claims were supported by evidence or logic. It is a book I would recommend for anyone interested in the legal processes, for it demostrates the importance of communication to those processes. I would also recommend this book to those who are interested in the theory of communication and do not necessarily desire a focus on the legal system. The ideas of and studies on communication are fascinating independently of their application to legal advocacy.

The Communist Trials And The American Tradition: Expert Testimony On Force And Violence And Democracy was first published in 1956 and is now reprinted for a contemporary generation of readers in a newly supplemented edition, scholar, activist, and educator John Somerville provides the reader with a brilliant and comprehensive analysis of the social and political impact of the three Smith Act trials that took place during the McCarthy anti-communist political witch hunts of the 1950s in The Communist Trials And The American Tradition: Expert Testimony On Force And Violence And Democracy. Highly recommended reading for all students of 20th century American political history, Somerville's book continues to be an engaging, informative, challenging, enduring contribution to our understanding of the trauma inflicted by the anti-communist hysteria of the times.

This book is as useful as it is attractive. The binding for the hardcover edition is sturdy, and as solid as the material within. The author has, by writing this book, managed to create an anomaly withing the legal profession: a practitioner's guide that is in simple English, easy to read and of great assisistance to advocates. The effort that went into making it readable makes the reading effortless. The title appeared 'ambitious' but it is no misnomer; no aspect of advocacy is left untreated. 'The Complete Advocate' is an invaluable resource for any legal practitioner. All that is missing is a pocket-sized companion in point-form.

This is a great book for new scopists to read. It gives you an overview of what court reporter's do. Learning about their jobs will help us, the scopists, do our job better. It is also a good book to get if you are thinking of becoming a court reporter. It goes over stipulations, parentheticals, motions, objections, etc. The part I liked best about this book is it gave alot of examples on preliminaries, title pages, appearance page, index page, transcripts.
I think this book makes a great collection for a court reporter or a scopists.

CONFRONTING THE "GOOD DEATH": NAZI EUTHANASIA ON TRAIL, 1945-1953 narrows the focus to a campaign to eliminate the mentally ill which Hitler unleashed years before his famous final solution to annihilate European Jews. This campaign killed as many as 270,000 people and set a precedent for the mass murder of civilians, and Michael Bryant here analyzes the U.S. Government and West German judiciary's attempt to punish these killers after the war. Primary sources blends with in-depth research to outline the Nazi campaign against the mentally ill and the postwar search for justice: a recommended pick for college-level Holocaust collections.

The 52nd volume of the Truman State University Press "Sixteenth Century Essays and Studies" series, Constraint On Trial: Dirck Volckertsz Coornhert And Religious Freedom by Gerrit Voogt (Kennesaw state University, Kennesaw, Georgia) is the close study of Dirck Volckertsz Coornhert (1522-90), an individualist poet, playwright, translator, and controversial figure who dared to defend the values of tolerance and freedom of conscience. Examining his "Synod on the Freedom of Conscience", the "Trial of the Killing of Heretics", and many, many other works, Coornhert's ideas, impact and legacy are scrutinized in this fascinating volume. Constraint On Trial is a strongly recommended contribution to Sixteenth-Century Studies supplemental reading lists, as well as university level academic European history, culture, philosophy, and religious reference collections.

Essential reading for anyone wanting to be a good litigator

I found this book to be the least boring law book during my time as a student. Filled with practical advice, the book is organized in order from the inception of a case to the trial. It teaches you exactly what to, how to, and the proper order in which to prepare for everything - from how to create your own trial book to tactical advice about dealing with the opposing party during pretrial communication. For someone who is interested in the ACTUAL practice of litigation, this is the book for you!
I must confess that I read this text while taking the class with the Author, and as he is very enthusiastic about the litigation system, I read it with his voice in mind. However, upon re-examination of the book years later, I found that it can easily stand on its own - one can almost get as much out of it as if being simultaneously instructed by the author.
