One of the best books on cinema

Although Deleuze mentions that this bookfs aim is to make a typology on cinema, for readers, it will be the object of thought more than that. In this book, Deleuze considers many films in which time is not subordinate to movement any longer (the time-image). His way of developing theory is like Bergsonfs one on time and memory, but his theory of time has variations that are reflected in various films and becomes a profound notion of the world with dynamic extension. Deleuze proposes us not only new concepts through films but also the question: What is the world? Deleuze creates a system on cinema as same as he analyzes clearly what is new and what is different from the past films in films of neo-realism or the new wave. While many people have mentioned to genres in films, Deleuzefs analysis of the border between the genres is one of the most precise.

If you had gCinema 1: The Movement-Imageh, this book would be more interesting for you because you could compare the two books. Moreover, this book treats so many films that you must find ones you have ever seen, which makes this book more fascinating.

There is no one like Brigitte Lacombe. . .

Brigitte Lacombe's book of photographs, taken throughout her life, of those people most of us will never know in our lives. . .is the most exquisite compilation of photographs ever transposed in one single books. There is no one who shoots a subject as Brigitte Lacombe does, and no one a subject trusts more. Is it book of celebrity photographs? Yes. But the celebrity is -- without question -- Brigitte Lacombe.

Well Read Civil War Stories of Ambrose Bierce

This book on tape is really moving. The stories come across very powerfully and bring home the emotional impact of the Civil War from the point of view of the soldiers and the civilians who were affected by the battles. Most memorable is the story of the child who gets lost behind the battle lines close to his farm. Listening to these stories makes them come alive more powerfully than simply reading the written words could possibly do. I highly recommend this book on tape.

This book holds what seems to be the first plays by soon to be revolutionary artists! These students explode into the art scene like none before them. Each play demonstates their talent in a new-age wave of teenage art. I recomend this book to anyone looking to produce something new and exciting. High schools and colleges would be hailed for staging these one act performances!

I am a 13 year old actress and I found this book helpful. The monologues are very different, so you could probably just use this one book for all your audition needs! This is one of those books that you just have to have on your shelves.

These Radio Theatre style audiobooks are excellent. The characters in Anne of Green Gables sound a lot like the ones in the movie, which was an added plus for us because we've loved the movie. Another excellent Focus on the Family Radio Theatre series is the Chronicles of Narnia. Exceptionally well done.

An efficient yet passionate and personal play.
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.

Helen Edmundson writes with a rare clarity and drive, despite the fact that the subject on which she writes is muddy and contentious. She uses the marriage of two people, one Irish and one English, as a barometer for the political upheaval of Cromwell's conquest of Ireland. This concrete example, firmly rooted in context, brings a brilliance and richness to the play; both qualities are achieved with a spare and judicious use of language. A historical play which does not leave the issues relegated to history

Review Date: 2008-01-04
Clint Eastwood, Actor and Director: New Perspectives is an anthology of essays by learned authors discussing Hollywood star Clint Eastwood, who has made a stand-out name for himself as a top-notch director through films such as "Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby". Individual essays include "Mocking Success in 'Every Which Way but Loose'", "Irony as Absolution", "Mystic Moral Miasma in 'Mystic River'", and much more. The essays have a scholarly tone and a perceptive eye toward meticulous analysis of theme; Clint Eastwood, Actor and Director is especially recommended for film studies students and professionals who would learn from Eastwood's work, as well as cerebral Clint Eastwood fans.

Good fast moving dialogue with intriguing characters,
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-26
According to the John Gassner Best Plays Series, this A.R. Gurney play is included in the Best American Plays Ninth Series 1983-1992. It is excellent! This is NOT to be confused with T.S. Eliot's The Cocktail Party.

The setting takes place in the mid 70s in upstate NY, a well-to-do home of an older couple, Bradley and Ann. Their son John makes a visit home during the "sacred" Cocktail Hour and seeks his parents permission to proceed with the play he wrote about the family. In it, he will make some revelation about the family that includes something very personal he intends to clarify.

Bradley, the father, is adamant that he doesn't want this play published. He highly discourages it, refuses to endure embarrassment and offers his son $20,000 to forego it.

Ann, the mother, believes that maybe the family information would be better suited for a book, because it is less personal than a play. And his sister Nina, is upset because enough is not written about her.

This is a brilliant exchange of dialogue and interaction with characters, and with this, you gain a complete sense of this intriguing family and their share of domestic distress. ....MzRizz

Waltz of poetry, story and drama !
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-27
Having read some of the greatest playwrights, from Shakespeare to Miller to Kalidasa to Chekov, I assumed I had seen it all, or at least summed a good some of it, but not. Welcome to the dramatic world of publicity shy Sri Aurobindo ! His poetic plays are a treat of humor, tragedy, language and understandings of our world. Sadly his dramas have been buried by his own more dominant works on Yoga. If he hadn't been approached by philosophy, that drove people into making more attention for his yoga and divine elaboration, he would have been recalled as a great dramatist. Sri Aurobindo is one of the greatest and rarest of poets, philosophers, story tellers and a spiritualist of the divine caliber - indeed one of the most virtuous sons that Heaven spared for mankind's love and respect, and if I may so add - joy's best tears will not be shed reading much else!
