A Must for Kentucky genealogists!

If you are interested in late 18th century Kentucky history, Baptist history, or Kentucky genealogy, this is a wonderful resource.
The book focuses on the early history and genealogy of Franklin, Woodford, and, to a lesser degree, Fayette Counties. After
a brief history of the early settlements and churches (not just Baptist) of the area, the author devotes most of the book
to its early families. Specific families are grouped together and the book is indexed by surname. I found Forks of Elkhorn
Church to be invaluable for making connections between these early families.

Fascinating, well done translations

This volume catalogs a wide range of documents from twenty-two years of Fort Orange's records. The documents are clearly
translated with useful notes (including notes on the translation) and excellent indices. The records show deeds transferring
property, documents relating to debts of people associated with the settlement, and official (often quasi-official) correspondence.
The indices are very useful, and the editor makes a number of useful comments on possible name variations.
I would very highly recommend this as educational source material for students learning how to use primary material. Also good for people doing genealogical work.

This is a welcome addition to the proverbial confrontation between Habermas' transcendental pragmatics and Foucault's geneology.
Although both thinkers chose language as the vehicle of emancipation, Habermas' persistence in holding on the the Kantian
universals of reasons in intersubjective interaction through applying the maxims of reason leaves no room for localised considerations.
Foucault's engagment with the Kantian conception of enlightenment is one of historical contingency. He advocates a formulation
of ethics where emancipation and maturity are not set by the normative practices of Habermas and Kant but the locale's own
arrival at its own truths. The articles shed more light on the differences between the two ethical stances enriching the literature
on the subject.

This book is the real thing! As 2004 begins, there are a number of other books on the bestseller lists which deal with related
topics. But, these other books are nevertheless fiction.
FROM FRANCE TO ITALY... traces the line of descent of an actual, real family. The book is filled with copies of antique documents accompanied by illuminating text, and makes a great addition to any library, whether casual or professional.

This is a book written by my Grandfather to explain the family tree to relatives. It was basically distributed to family and
friends - pretty neat that it has a listing on Amazon. The only people that are likely to see it are foloks I refer to it.

Front Porch History is a must for anyone who wants to preserve their family history. It is not so much about searching for
your roots as it is about preserving them. So many families today are losing this precious gift because they don't take
the time to listen and to record the vast treasure trove available to them. Tammy Cardwell not only encourages you to do
this but actually gives you practical resources and even a procedure to follow. I highly recommend this book to anyone who
is seeking to preserve the memories of loved ones. The present is the only link we have between the past and the future
so it shouldn't be wasted!

I found this historical genealogy of the Jacob Fyock family a great resource as well as great reading for enjoyment. Howard
Fyock has brought the Fyock ancestors alive by telling his personal stories about many of the Fyock ancestors. He has collected
many pictures of his ancestors to help answer the question..."I wonder what my ancestors looked like." I am glad that he
did not list just names and dates. Even if you are not related in anyway to the Fyock line, you will enjoy reading about
the lives of the Fyock people. You will not be sorry you purchased this book.

Students of Native American genealogy will welcome the re-publication of Henry Gannett's Gazetteer of Indian Territory, first
published in 1905. Gannett, geographer for the U.S. Geological Survey, oversaw the publication of the Gazetteer between the
Oklahoma Land Rushes of 1889 to 1895 and Oklahoma's admission as the 46th state in 1907. Indian Territory refers to those
remaining southwest lands that had become home, primarily, to the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Chocktaw, Chickasaw, Creek,
and Seminole) following their removal from the southeastern states in 1833. (Small reservations of Quapaw, Peoria, Modoc,
Ottawa, Wyandot, and Shawnee dotted the northwestern corner of the territory.)
Indian Territory is bounded on the north by Kansas, on the east by Arkansas, on the south by Texas, and on the west by Oklahoma. Readers will find a valuable description of the region's geological, geographical, demographic, and economic characteristics in Mr. Gannett's Introduction. The bulk of the book, of course, consists of an alphabetical list of 2,100 place names, scattered through Indian Territory. The place names range from villages, to railway stations, to bodies of water, and to other natural formations. Each place name is identified in relation to the Indian nation on whose reservation it could be found and with reference to Indian Nation atlas sheets published separately by the U.S. Geological Survey. All in all, this is a great tool for researchers with ancestors among the Five Civilized Tribes and other Indian nations.
