This book is very colorful and brings back alot of memories. Some pictures are so beautiful that you would even want to frame them. This would make a wonderful Kwanzaa gift. This book brings back so many memories and some memories that we wish we had to share.

I am always in search of the "perfect gift". I have searched high & low for an African-American inspired journal/record book. This one is wonderful. The artwork is beautiful. I gave this to my mother for Christmas, and the whole family had a great time filling it out. It brought back a lot of memories. Now I have to buy another one for myself!

This book adds a lot of information on German church books that has helped me in my reading of church books. I am not fluent in German, nor in reading German script, but this book helps with the genealogical interpretation of data from birth, marriage, and death records. It bridges some basic deciphering of the records and further interpretation. Likely, I will refer to this book as I continue researching German church records.

Everything in the book description is true!

It is a definitely *beyond the basics* book. Smith shows you how to analyze the records, explains name changes and farm names, Biblical citations in death records. Since reading Smith's book, I have reviewed my microfilm printouts and have found so much more information that I had not noticed before. I now know what to look for beyond the names and dates.

The book is the perfect size to carry, and the handwriting specimens in the back have proven extremely useful.

Family Origins and Genealogy

The most important reason to buy and use FAMILY ORIGINS genealogy software and this book is that is the best on the market. Most important, when you buy FAMILY ORIGINS software and the book you will spend much less thanmost other programs, including Family Tree Maker, Master Genealogist and others. Secondly, FAMILY ORIGINS does not have a "secret agent" sub-program contained within. Family Tree Maker does include a "secret agent" sub-program with its software. Thirdly, with FAMILY ORIGINS you have the ability to create your own forms and reports. Additionally, FAMILY ORIGINS has a note field with every fact type. Family Tree Maker does NOT include this feature and they only have one note field where you must co-mingle all of your information. Lastly, Bruce Buzbee, the author and owner of FAMILY ORIGINS accepts all feedback from the users of the program. As a professional genealogy author, writer and researcher, FAMILY ORIGINS is the only genealogy software and book I recommend!

By far this is the best gen. software on the market and I recommend it to everyone. However, there is one thing I would like to suggest to Bruce Buzbee: Currently it is ambiguous when printing out a family group record with references to figure out which reference is attached to which person muchless which fact. This is of prime importance to a researcher. Surely, this would be simple to change compared to all the complex code that is written to perform these hi-tech tasks that F.O. already does. I would be willing to purchase a new update if this change were included. Please pass this on th Bruce for me. Thank you, Frank Harris

This is a fantastic, thorough and (most importantly) readable guide to the daunting ask of attempting family history research in Ireland. It is obvious that the authors have plenty of experience with the subject, and offer some unexpected and well thought out advice. I found it very helpful.

I just want to point out that the authors of the book are Sherry Irvine AND Nora M. Hickey. The book is erroneously listed as being written bu one person named "Nora Hickey Irvine". Maybe this can be corrected to make it easier to find.

Searchable by any keyword including date and name, this CD-ROM version of the 3-volume "The Great Migration Begins" is extremely convenient for genealogists to use. It contains information on over 900 early New England families and represents the first phase of the Great Migration Study Project - an effort to identify all those Europeans who settled in New England before 1633.

Hello all,
I was searching for Quebec books and saw this out-of-print book. This is without a doubt the best book of its kind I have seen. I bought a thousand or so microfiche only to realize they didn't have the counties listed without taking each fiche out and reading the first page. With Jeanne's book I literally have worn it out and have to put a new binding on it from constant usage of her book! I cannot say enough about this great book.

I will say.. I think she missed a couple towns... but errors happen to only those who do things~ GREAT GREAT book.. and no I have never met the gal.

It was at a small book shop in Salt Lake City that I discovered this amazing little book. Perhaps it's "little" in dimension size, but it is a GIANT as a reference book.

Mind you, I had several other reference books on Researching the Catholic Parishes of Quebec Province, but this little gem is so very different than all the others. No one but Jeanne SAUVE WHITE lists everyone who has worked on parish registers NEXT to the name of the parish itself. What a boon to researchers! This alone will save untold hours of unnecessary research.

Additionally, critical information is included, such as: the Diocese in which the parishes are included. Every good Catholic researcher knows that diocesan records are worth their weight in gold, especially if the local parish register has met with a sorry demise. Catholic records in general are ALWAYS dupicated, at least once a year, and submitted to the local bishop--therefore the term "Bishopric Record"! I NEVER want to hear again, "the records were burnt in a church fire".

While everyone doing serious research in a specific area should have a trustworthy map, Jeanne SAUVE WHITE goes above AND beyond by including City references and approximate locations of the parishes--a researcher's dream come true!

My copy is "dog-eared" as I use it over and over again. For those wishing to purchase a copy of Jeanne SAUVE WHITE's book will be pleased to learn that the Genealogical Publishing Co. of Baltimore Maryland is about to put out an additional printing. Amazon.com is undoubtedly aware of this and will gladly supply your needs now with used copies and later on, those "hot-off-the-press"!!!

Whether you want to find out what a certain church or Diocese uses, the history and use, or how to design your own heraldry, this book has it all. Mr. De Kay has filled this book with an extensive collection of coat of arms and seals used within the Episcopal church. The book starts with Emporer Constantine I, and quickly goes through the major styles of Roman Catholic and Anglican heraldry to the Episcopal Church. Each emblem is clearly shown, along with a detailed explanation of the design, use and history of each piece. As an added touch, the seals and logos of ecumenical religious groups are also included at the end.
The book is captivating and makes you want to pick it up again and again. If you or a friend is any combination of Episcopalian, historian, theologian, artist or geneologist you'll want this book as it will make a wonderful gift!

Laura Szucs Pfeiffer has written an exciting new book, "Hidden Sources: Family History in Unlikely Places" to help genealogists and historians in their endless quest for records and documentation. From "A to Z," Ms. Pfeiffer has compiled a comprehensive list of over 100 sources and suggestions where to search for little-used or over-looked records.

All the brainstorming work has been done for you! Instead of the normal "how to do" genealogy book Ms. Pfeiffer written a book that tells you simply what to do and how to direct your search.

Each clue to the many little-used records she suggests includes a "Selected Reading" list and "Internet Sites of Interest." These little-used records will assist genealogists and historians with documentation to prove the existence of an individual or family. Ms Pfeiffer's list is more than the standard suggestions for records such as birth, death, marriage; cemetery records; local or county histories; or, census records.

For example, her book contains information related to how to obtain records of adoptions and apprenticeships, autobiographies, unusual death records, farm records, coroner's inquests, court records, guardianship records, homestead records, immigrant letters, licenses, marriage dispensations, midwives' records, passport applications, school records. And this is just a few of the many ideas and suggestions!

The Appendix includes address, telephone numbers and internet website URLs for the National Archives and Records Administration, State Archives, Historical Societies, the Family History Library and its Centers, Genealogical Societies, Major U.S. Genealogical Libraries. Most importantly, it contains a very good index.

This 290-page book is a must have every genealogist and library.

An invaluable resource about Cuba's historical families
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2002-03-07
The Conde de Jaruco, as the author is known, was an avid compiler of the histories of Cuban families. Though this volume, as well as the other nine of this series, concentrates on the elite and upper-class families, it is an invaluable resource for the historian and genealogist. For each family mentioned, the author provides a short history about their origins. He then provides a genealogy of the family in Cuba. For each generation he gives the names of the parents, their children, and sometimes the spouses and their children. At various times several generations of each branch are given. Though many times the dates on which various events occurred are not included, by careful reading they may be deduced. Anyone working on their Cuban genealogy or the history of important Cuban families would do well to have the entire ten volume collection of Historia de Familias Cubanas in their personal libraries.
