The Nicotine Lottery is one of those rare books that you find yourself unable to put down because you are always wanting to find out what happens next. Be careful if you read this book in public because you will find yourself laughing out loud about once every 10 minutes - this can lead to odd looks. The book is a delightful read that is a Confederency of Dunces for the Millenium. The story of the three brothers is hilarious and at the same time heartfelt and genuine. A must read for anyone who appreciates twisted and brilliantly intelligent comedy.

Self-help gurus and motivational speakers, beware! In this book, Pat Reeder and Laura Ainsworth take aim at nine distinct behavior patterns that breed incompetence and hamper productivity at school, in the workplace, and in society at large. Humorous real-world examples are lifted from newspapers from around the world and presented in the hopes of preventing the reader from repeating those mistakes. A must-read for everyone from corporate executives to elected officials. Highly recommended!

Two individuals reunite in this ribald story of love, lust and masturbation.

Seth Michael sits on his front porch thinking about the girl he often thinks about. The girl he fell in love with as a teenager - the girl whose parents cut their vacation short and returned home after sensing correctly that their daughter had been defiled. A rough 2.5 seconds in an abandoned house where they both lost their virginity. That was 11 years ago. The girl, the beautiful Arabian goddess Adi Husayn, is back in Ohio to see Seth Michael one more time before her wedding. But will true love prevail? Will Adi stay or will she return home to Kentucky? Full of uproarious asides on everything from the treatment of the elderly, race issues, religion, and homo/bi sexuality, Oddly Huge: The Ultimate Story of Ultimate Love is frank, rude, and almost like nothing else in the universe. Ever.

And it's a parody of The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. Ever.

How it could have been all different

"Romeo and Juliet" counts as one of the biggest lovestory in the history of literature. It ended tragical, it had to so this love remained innocent and perfect. But what if Juliet had woken up early enough and both hadn't died? This matter is dealt with in Kishons satire "Oh Romeo. A Farce". Setting is Verona 30 years after the story of the couple had started. Romeo and Juliet are upset with their situation. They are depressed by their lives and how their marriage turned out. There seems nothing left of the old romance and passion. Always hearing the two argue terribly Shakespeare shows up to save his play. But he only gets blamed for Romeo's and Juliet's misfortune by them.
Using quotings of Shakespeare's plays(not only Romeo and Juliet) Kishon makes his play more vivid and the characters themselves with the way they behave make the whole scene seem absurd.
Everyone will agree that Romeo and Juliet simply HAD to die not to turn out as described in this story

Another Well Done Reissue!!

With The Ides Of Mad, I bought this book in 4th grade, 1979. I am so glad they have reissued these early paperbacks. I haven't seen my copy in 20 years and reading it now, I realise how much I truly missed this book. Bob Clarke & Wallace Wood once again dominate most of the contributions, but now Jack Davis & George Woodbridge have entered the picture in some classic spoofs like "Gunsmoked" and "Success Story". Some early Don Martin graces this issue with some advertising spoofs. All great stuff!! I like "Morbid Dick" & "Dizzyland" from Wallace Wood too. This book takes me back to when I was 9 again, aaaaahhh! Anyhoo, a great introduction from Grant Geissman and a very durably built book make this a great purchase. MAD needs to reissue ALL of their paperbacks! We DEMAND it!!

I see the destruction on tv.
I see the chaos, and the smoke overtake New York.
I see flames int he pentagon.
I hear the acts of war, and terrorism
it's a lot for a person of my age to understand.
It saddens me, and it frightens me to think:
has the U.S. been made vulnerable, easily striked upon by enemies?

NO!

You can never break freedom of spirit.
All the losses will be mourned
but Americais still whole
we've overcome it before, and will overcome it again.
As a whole, as a partriotic nation.

This is a must for anyone aquainted with flyfishing and either has or longs for a sense of humor. Everytime I read it I get more out of it. It is sad this is the only book Mr. Pratt wrote. Great illustrations.

What the hell's a parody?

Strachan and Stones present a case (5 actually) for making parodies a part of the modern world rather than something that you studied (You did study them in college didn't you?) But before you conclude that these books are just about parody, pay attention to their introduction into what constitutes plagiarism (book 1). It's not what's taught, but "it's the real truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth" as they say in this country.

After that, it's hard to recommend where you should start. If you're in advertising, the entire book 4, Warreniana, is for you. Want to see how the twist and turns of famous authors begat a run of parodies that will bewitch you, try book 5.

If poetry's you thing, the first three books will fill a void that has never been filled in this way.

And, when you finish, the Index in book 5 is worth the price of the books alone. Where else can you find such a menu of famous works. You'll never go on a diet again.

Buy these books if you can afford them, copy sections and revere them until you can scrounge up the money for the real thing, but please don't steal them from the library they're too precious!

A fun item this beige on black T-shirt offers us the traditional jolly roger along with the advice that "We are always on a quest to reveal your hidden treasures." A great goof, this shirt is made of good quality cotton and is a definite attention-getter.

the king's strike back. those wonderfull three parodies brake the boundries of bridge books by being so cleverly funny and witty, you cannot stop laughing from the wonderfull tales in this book. the main parody - "play it again slam" is a pastiche of the greatest movie off all times "casablanca". believe it or not - "play it again slam" is funnier and more clever! the bridge hands themselves don't fall back behind and manage to be clever and intersting even without the help of the wonderfull characters aroud the table. this book is mandatory to bridge lovers who have at list a bit of sense of humor...
