Compared to the author's Cisco book, this is by far his best book. Beautifully written, easy to understand and nicely illustrated, you will learn an a lot about Microsoft's implementation of the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the Windows 2000 environment.

Seven hundred pages provide an overview the TCP/IP architecture and Internet standards, then guides you through TCP/IP installation and configuration. Additional lessons cover IP addressing and routing, subnetting, and the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). Explains the Windows Internet Name Service (WINS), domain functions, name resolution and implementation of the Domain Name System (DNS). Discusses connectivity issues in heterogeneous environments. Reviews guidelines and introduces IP network troubleshooting.

The author really did his homework in comparing normal TCP/IP functionality versus what Microsoft's think TCP/IP should function as. Throughout the book, you will find "Author's Note" pointing out these differences.

Thanks for your call. I bought a copy of FrontPage 2000, installed it and followed the instructions in your manual. I used your templates to create a quality system home page and several form pages with our quality documents listed and hyperlinked. I am now waiting for space on our intranet server to be allocated to me so I can get up and running. Our intranet server is in Arkansas but we do have a home page for our
plant here. At most I have about three hours invested in this project. I never used FrontPage before and I haven't opened the book yet. I have relied totally on your manual and so far it has been fun and incredibly easy. The next phase for me will be cutting and pasting our quality documents into the correct QSD templates. I feel very good about your software. I would not want to try this using just FrontPage alone I think it would take forever.

Buy all of this author's books! This is coming from a person who has spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on programming books...excuse me while I wipe my tear(joking)....but truly she makes sense! I learned more from her book in the first 10 pages then I really understood in 400 page...blah, blah, blah books. As a Christian, I'm actually praying for her salvation...I was so blessed by her writing.

My company use to pay for Excel training classes, until I bought this CD.
Now we just give the CD to new employees and they watch it on their own.
If an employee has any questions about Excel they just pop in the CD.
I really like the questions throughout the course, that test the employee's progress.

JScript .NET and more!
Helpful Votes: 19 out of 19 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-12
I bought this book looking for information on the new features JScript .NET since I need to migrate my company's site to ASP .NET. This book covers all of the new features in the language and provides lots of examples that show how to use them. The author also covers migrating a sample site from ASP to ASP .NET and goes an extra mile by demonstrating how to migrate from using ADO to ADO.NET.

XML is integrated into all aspects of the .NET Framework - I was glad to see that the author discusses XML throughout the book, provides an appendix called 'XML Primer', and also discusses using XML with the new ADO .NET DataSet object (sort of like an always disconnected ADO Recordset object) within a Windows service written in JScript .NET.

Since JScript .NET is now fully object oriented, there are three chapters that cover Object oriented design and analysis. The author uses UML (the Unified Modeling Language) throughout the discussions, and provides two very useful appendices: UML Notation which describes elements of UML diagrams, and ' Translating from UML to JScript.NET Code' which shows how easy it is to convert a UML diagram into functioning JScript .NET code.

The book is well thought out and the samples are very practical. I recommend this book to developers with some programming background - even casual programming. Part two of the book, covered in five chapters, is a JScript primer for those that aren't familiar with the language. This book works well as a reference and it covers more than just programming using the JScript .NET language in enough detail to be as useful as three books in one!

A good quick start for VB.Net 2005
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-10
Table of Contents is:
1. Enhancements to Visual Studio 2005
2. Visual Basic 2005 Language Enhancements
3. Enhancements to Windows Forms Applications
4. Enhancements to Web Forms Applications
5. Introduction to Mobile Applications Development
6. Enhancements to ADO.NET
Appendix A: ClickOnce Application Deployment

The author covers the new things in VB.Net 2005 in a 190 page book. If you are familiar with VB.Net 2003, this book is a good way of coming up to speed on the new features. I found it to be well written and easy to understand, with useful examples to illustrate the new features. It is not an in-depth treatment, nor a "How to Program" book. The low price makes it attractive for people already familiar with VB.Net 2003 who want a useful guide but don't want to spend twice that amount. This book could be used as a supplement for educators who are using a VB.Net 2003 textbook for which the 2005 edition is not yet available.

I had difficulty planning my database to achieve the reports I wanted and needed. This book not only breaks the planning process down into easily achievable information, but gives examples and a disk to practice on. I am very happy with the book and my results.I recommend this book to anyone who has a database with enormous amounts of data to plan for. It is easy to transfer the reading into practice right before your eyes. I can tell you my boss was completely impressed with my gained knowledge and ability working with the Access program. This book met and went blazingly past my epectations.I cannot recommend it enough.

This is a great tutorial for the beginner. I felt really comfortable with the pace of the material. The step-by-step instructions were accurate and easy to follow. I read the tutorial and worked through the exercises in a total of 2 days. As a result, I was able to create a brand new PowerPoint presentation for a client's meeting. My colleagues were impressed with my ability to deliver in a matter of days. This book is a life saver!

Splendid introduction for computer phobic, total beginners.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-06
Peggy Duncan was amazed at how little most people actually knew about the software in their computers -- even when they had been using it for years. She discovered that very few people actually read the user manuals and "how to" books for such widespread applications as Microsoft Windows 98, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 97. With this realization, Peggy set out to write Just Show Me Which Button To Click!: Computer Training For Busy People, a comprehensive, "user friendly", simplified guide that streamlines everything, that focuses on the user instead of the technology, and covers just those beginning to advanced features that are needed the most. Just Show Me Which Button To Click! is the best and highly recommended approach the computer phobic and the total beginner can have access to in getting up and running with these softwares for personal, academic, or business purposes.
