The number of changes that Microsoft implemented when they went from Visual Basic 6.0 to the .NET Framework are huge. This book takes you through the steps to not only convert your current code, but to get you into the correct mind set to program in the .NET architecture.

The examples in the book are clear for the basic programmer to learn from, and at the same time cover all of the steps one needs to be aware of to make a successful program.

This definitely should be your first book to read when planning the updating of your current code and future code plans.

With all that has changed from VB 6.0 to VB.NET, you need a solid starting place for our personal migration. This book provides that solid starting place with a good mix of theory and examples, organized in a very easy to follow natural progression.

The book takes you through the basic changes to Visual Basic .Net, to the new features of the language, and finally how to make it all come together.

The author has a solid grasp of the material and presents it in a way that allows you to get a working knowledge of VB.Net in a short amount of time.

For a beginner such as myself, learning any type of programming language was about as much of a challenge as it was figuring out how to stop that blinking 12:00 on my VCR-next to impossible.Mr Wang detailed everything in such a well manner I felt like Capt. Picard venturing out on a new frontier. I almost forgot I was reading a book on programming. I learned alot and had a good time. I highly recommend this book!

Easy to read, yet just as informative.

The ...Dummies series of books was a great concept from the beginning. Never before have there been technical references which could just be read for their entertainment value alone. Beware of ...Dummies books not in the computer genre, they are mediocre at best. This one however proudly continues the heritages started by Dan Gookin in being informative, technical but not more than is neccessary, and allowing you to start from a point where "computer" is still a word to be looked up in your dusty Webster.

If you are a Delphi programmer wanting to learn .NET, this is the book
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-17
As someone who used to use Delphi almost all the time, I hate to admit that in order to stay employable today, I'm having to know and use .NET. If you find yourself in the same situation, and you want a fast-track to .NET 2.0, then this book is at the top of the list.

It's the single most used book in my collection today when it comes to .NET.

At first, I read it cover to cover. It's not hard reading like some books can be, and it made sense to me since I know Delphi.
But with Jon's writing style, it's organized in a way that I reach for it when I need a quick reference as well.

It comes with special tidbits about the inner workings of the CLR, which I always find fascinating.

I keep it at the front of my bookshelf. I've had other programmers that C++ guys come by and ask to use it. So you don't need to know Delphi to make good use of it. Borland C++ Builder users will find it an easy read as well since Builder is built on Delphi.

Five thumbs up for this one. Well done Jon!

It's realy fantastic

Security is a large and powerful feature of .NET, but it has largely been ignored in the .NET documentation and in the books written on .NET. Mr. Mueller's book is a welcome explanation of the ins and outs of this important topic. You'll learn how to accomplish what you want to do--thanks to the author's in-depth research, clear writing, and thorough coverage of this increasingly key topic. As a bonus, the book is just plain interesting as well. Don't hesitate to buy this one! It's a real gem.

Microsoft's Internet Toolkit Put Simply
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-23
This book is a fantastic resource for those who are just entering into Wireless Application Protocol. It contains advice for users on how to get an IP address for their mobile phone through to developing complex algorithms for use on such devices. The terminology is clear and an example of this is the description of Blue Tooth Technology in Figure 3.7.

It is a dynamic book and has been created so that the reader can gain comprehension through the passages and the graphic screen shots.

Overall it is a very important tool book for those interested in the developing trends occuring in IT and the associated products.

A very good book for self-learner
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 11 total.

My boss asked me to develop a leave system. I have no experience about Access VBA before. I bought a lot of books. However most of them are too thick and theoretical. No step by step examples are provided. Fortunately after reading this one, I can finish my task now.

Microsoft Access 2000 with Visual Basic for Applications

I consider this book to be ideal for people needing real hands on knowledge of Access. I'm using it in self-study to learn advanced concepts and VBA. I feel this is the ideal text for the self-learner.

This is a superbly organized and clearly written book that anyone with an intermediate knowledge of Access who's interested in moving forward into VBA will appreciate. The figures and illustrations are well-integrated with the text, allowng the pictures and the words to work together to improve the knowledge of the reader. It's a good balance between theory and practice. It's difficult to point out specific qualities. In short, I think the strength of this book lies in it's organization and clarity of text.

The "Reference Window" concept gives a general overview of the procedure being taught. This has helped me understand the "big picture" and gives me ideas on using the concepts in my existing databases. The book is also a gold mine of good ideas that I'll be able to incorporate into my databases. Additionally, a well-detailed table of contents and good organization makes it fairly easy to find what you're looking for. All the above makes this book a keeper for future reference.

Technical concepts and overviews enhance the ability for the reader to learn some very challenging procedures. They are presented on an "as needed" basis and in sufficient quantity to increase understanding without being technically overwhelming.
