If you are a Delphi programmer wanting to learn .NET, this is the bookReview Date: 2006-07-17
It's the single most used book in my collection today when it comes to .NET.
At first, I read it cover to cover. It's not hard reading like some books can be, and it made sense to me since I know Delphi.
But with Jon's writing style, it's organized in a way that I reach for it when I need a quick reference as well.
It comes with special tidbits about the inner workings of the CLR, which I always find fascinating.
I keep it at the front of my bookshelf. I've had other programmers that C++ guys come by and ask to use it. So you don't need to know Delphi to make good use of it. Borland C++ Builder users will find it an easy read as well since Builder is built on Delphi.
Five thumbs up for this one. Well done Jon!

Microsoft Access 2000 with Visual Basic for ApplicationsReview Date: 2002-04-20
This is a superbly organized and clearly written book that anyone with an intermediate knowledge of Access who's interested in moving forward into VBA will appreciate. The figures and illustrations are well-integrated with the text, allowng the pictures and the words to work together to improve the knowledge of the reader. It's a good balance between theory and practice. It's difficult to point out specific qualities. In short, I think the strength of this book lies in it's organization and clarity of text.
The "Reference Window" concept gives a general overview of the procedure being taught. This has helped me understand the "big picture" and gives me ideas on using the concepts in my existing databases. The book is also a gold mine of good ideas that I'll be able to incorporate into my databases. Additionally, a well-detailed table of contents and good organization makes it fairly easy to find what you're looking for. All the above makes this book a keeper for future reference.
Technical concepts and overviews enhance the ability for the reader to learn some very challenging procedures. They are presented on an "as needed" basis and in sufficient quantity to increase understanding without being technically overwhelming.

The examples in the book are clear for the basic programmer to learn from, and at the same time cover all of the steps one needs to be aware of to make a successful program.
This definitely should be your first book to read when planning the updating of your current code and future code plans.
