McMorals: A Case Of Corporate [Krock] is a cold, hard, no-punches-pulled look at the bureaucratic corporate culture of the famous McDonald's fast food chain. Especially focusing upon the changes that have come in how McDonald's does business since the death of founder Ray Kroc in 1984, McMorals is written from an inside point of view; author Jim David brings both his own experiences with the McDonald's company and a thoughtful overview of how corporate ruthlessness has utterly taken over Kroc's once benevolent vision. A fascinating tour of what makes the McDonald's chain tick, for good or for ill, that leaves the reader to draw his or her own conclusions concerning the McDonald's changes, motives, and business practices.

A must read for Lakewood/Steilacoom historians

Joseph Thomas Heath describes in detail the areas in and around Lakewood/Steilacoom in Washington State and the good and bad as a poineering farmer/rancher in the South Sound. Through the eyes of a devout Englishman you will see the Steilacoom Indians, thier friends, and thier foes,the hassles and benefits of living near Fort Nisqually,and the heartbreaking approach and eventual possesion of the Americans from Oregon. This was a Lakewood/Steilacoom full of Prarie lands,woodlands,undeveloped lakeshores,creekbanks,and bubbling artisian wells.A place where wolves roamed and Eagles were "as thick as crows".

Mental Health is only Emotional Health
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-09-09
While we consider this little, the reality is that among the types of health, physical, economic, intellectual, and emotional or psychological, mental health is actually little more than psychological and emotional health. Where men deny their emotions, therefore, it is often conclusory that women are the ones upon whom mental health has been focused, leaving men once again in the desert of health issues. Where women regularly evoke their emotional needs, men seldom do, and society places numerous substitutes to deter, or defer, the issues that come automatically from being human, as if men were robots. Since men spend so much of their lives at work, this necessarily invokes the issues of healthful working environments that properly and appropriately honor the emotional lives of men, and do not treat them as robotic. Astute lawyers will begin to increasingly define the importance of mental health in work and employment issues as they have been forced to do for women (coming into the workplace with all of their emotional clothing). Having long denied males the same privilege, the integration of men and women in the workplace has the potential to overload the human resources department responsible for insuring the collateral issues that confront employees to insure productivity for the employer, and contented employees. Far from being "girlie men," the normal acceptance of human qualties is long overdue for men, and any company of social responsibility will jump at the chance to prove its image of "valuable work climates" for both men and women. This blossoming field of context in connection with both home and work environments, and the nexus of child raising must necessarily become the next giant step for corporations to address their corporate climate as worthy employers. Far from the hierarchial vision of the industrial complex, the 21st Century workplace that incorporates both men and women in positions of responsibility is advised to insure both physical health and mental health for its employees, as well as trying to handle the enormous task of diversity issue that have become one test of humanitarian excellence in a world increasingly complex and interdependent. For companies who ignore this vast area of health issues, they will continue to become the lumbering dinosaurs they must be in an integrated gender world where master/servant relationships and law have ignored the importance of human emotions as mental health. Correctly defining the existence of the whole human being was bound to come sooner or later.

My Favorite Michael McDonald Album
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-20
This is the CD I reach for when I need to make the day right. The longitudinal collection does a wonderful job of showcasing his growth and development and the breadth of his artistic scope. For those of us who detected a unique vocal talent in midst of the harmonic layers that made up the early Steely Dan products to the solo and duet work of the last few years, Michael McDonald's distinctive voice has been one, like other great talents, that have made the work their own whatever its original source was. The one thing that surprised me about this album and left me wondering, was the absence, (at least on sites like Amazon), of credit for the contribution of Wendy Moten on 'No Love Left To Be Found'. Her voice is match for MM's in the same way that James Ingram's on 'Jah Mo Be There' and Patty LaBelle's on the ballad 'On My Own' were.
An inadvertent oversight, I'm sure, but one that warrants correction. As fond as I am of all his work on this album, 'I Gotta Try' and 'No Love Left To Be Found' are the cuts that capture my attention the most, and not the least because of Wendy Moten's soaring soulful voice.

Bring Mother Goose to life
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-12
Reviewed by Conner Aguren(age 3) and Mom for Reader Reviews (10/07)

You can bring these classic Mother Goose rhymes to life with felt puppets that Velcro to a storyboard glove. Rhymes illustrated in the book include:

Mary had a little lamb;
Pop goes the weasel;
Little Miss Muffet;
The cat and the fiddle;
Hickory, dickory, dock; and
Humpty Dumpty.

My son liked putting the story characters on the glove. He also liked talking about some of the details in the illustrations, such as "Is that horse going to save Humpty?" The last two pages were a story scene made of felt, so the story characters could also stick on these pages. This made it easier to play out the stories then using the glove, as well as make up new stories.

Parent's Comment:

It is a shame that this book, "Mother Goose Rhymes," only provided characters from four of the six rhymes. My son wondered where the characters were for "Pop Goes the Weasel" and "Hickory, Dickory, Dock."
