"In... through... and beyond!"

This is essentially a pictures-and-story book, the text being mainly a run-through of the film with bits of dialogue slightly modified in order to condense the story.

The photos are full-colour and plentiful, several of which are printed over 2 pages, including a beautiful letterbox-style shot of the "planets" being worked on by the robots on the Cygnus' bridge.

For fans of the film, the most interesting part of this book will be pages 53-55, a section describing a deleted scene which occurs after the meteor storm (1h21m into the film, or Chapter 15 on the DVD). In this sequence, Holland, Pizer, and McCrae are faced with crossing a narrow catwalk over the power center of the Cygnus, which is leaking huge clouds of gas. V.I.N.C.E.N.T. carries Pizer across, B.O.B. carries McCrae, and Holland tries to walk over the catwalk, which breaks and collapses beneath him, but he is saved by the two robots. This scene also appears in the baseball card set.

There are nice photos of the entire cast on the inside covers, and some nice close-ups of the "robot funeral". Disappointingly, there are no photos of the internal, red-lava-esque whirlpool inside the black hole, while the same shot of the outer blue whirlpool is used *3* times.

Overall, this is an interesting find for a fan of the film, and seeing as how the going rate seems to be just a few dollars, what've you got to lose?

As for me, I still have my copy from over 20 years ago, and no, it's definitely NOT for sale.

A unique version of the classic folk tale

This is a Disney version of the classic folktale, "The Emperor's New Clothes" in which the emperor is portrayed as Prince John from "Robin Hood" and the scoundrels are portrayed as Honest John (aka Foulfellow) and Gideon from "Pinocchio". The story goes as most of us know, but here's the details if you don't remember them. This emperor is fond of fine clothes, but two tricksters introduce their magic cloth that only the wise can see. So the emperor pays them to make him some clothes of that cloth. Then the emperor asks everybody to take a look to see whether or not they are a fool. But since, "there was nothing on the loom to see" nobody could see a strand of cloth. But to avoid being thought of as a fool, they make up comments on the cloth. Then when the emperor can't see the cloth, he worries that he's a fool. So he makes up comments as well and says he'll wear them in the next parade. Everybody, who hears that fools can't see the cloth, wonder, "Will I be able to see the cloth?" Then when the parade begins, everybody pretends to see the clothes until a little girl points out, "But he hasn't got any clothes on!" Then everybody is shouting the whole truth, and the emperor realizes, "He was the fool. He had been tricked." And he thinks, "Just wait until I get my hands on those tricksters!" But it's too late-the tricksters took off with all the money, and as the book says, "They were no fools!" An interesting detail is the artist's perspective of the famous finale of the emperor having no clothes on(or in modern versions, he's in his underwear), the emperor's underwear is depicted as long underwear(it looks like pajamas)and slippers. Another interesting detail of the artwork is that while the emperor(Prince John)is a lion and the two scoundrels(Foulfellow and Gideon)are a fox and a cat, all the other characters(prime minister, general, townspeople)are all humans. Cute retelling of the famous story.

The Mystery of the Missing Peanuts

For the past two weeks Mickey the zookeeper has been having a problem. Someone keeps stealing peanuts from the storeroom. The only opening besides the locked door is a small crack in the wall. To solve this mystery Mickey calls in Detective Donald. When Donald arrives, he first denies all offers of help, given by Mickey and Chip and Dale, two chipmunks. He then tries to figure out who is stealing the peanuts by having each animal try to get at them through the crack, but none of the animals can reach them. His next brilliant idea is to rig a trap so that the thief will have to step in blue paint and will set off a bell when he tries to steal the peanuts. During the night, the bell goes off, he wakes up, and he sees eight footprints in the paint. He then rushes off to visit the octopus, and is disappointed to find out that octopuses don't like peanuts. Mickey then suggests that the prints may have been made by two four-footed animals, and Donald rushes off. This time he gets it right; the thieves are Chip and Dale. They had been taking peanuts and storing them up for winter in their burrow. Now they work for Mickey sweeping the park, and get all the peanuts they can eat.

The book has cute bright pictures. I am really fond of Donald's classic detective outfit, complete with bag. The story is told in a very straightforward manner, and flows nicely. I think it is adorable the way Donald keeps rushing off on a new way to find the thief when the chipmunks keep offering to help him.

This book has to be one of my all-time favorite childhood memories. I was always inclined toward computers and video games, so Tron was a favorite movie for me (a child of the 70's and 80's). I really loved the pop-ups and interactive mechanisms - you literally got to make the story happen!

Comic Adaptation of the Hole

The explorer craft U.S.S. Palomino is returning to Earth after a fruitless 18-month search for extra-terrestrial life when the crew comes upon a supposedly lost ship, the magnificent U.S.S. Cygnus, hovering near a black hole. The ship is controlled by Dr. Hans Reinhardt

This movie was a reimagining of Disney's 20,00 leagues under the sea in a space opera. The comic art was better than most movie adaptation art i have seen after this. Disney captured the movie in fine form. One would wish they would have a book like this out today

This issue marked the closing of an era. This showcase comic was a way for some new movies and classic four color comics to be showcased. From million dollar duck, Escape from Witch mountain to the classic Shaggy dog & DR Syn alias the scarecrow & some classic disney four color comics, you saw the best that Disney had to offer in comic books

A side note-in this last issue of Disney's Comic Zone, there is slight reprint of the Disney movie newspaper comicstrip drawn by Jack Kirby-this comic is not of those Strip. One would wish that these type of classic newspaper strips would be reprinted in a book form.

A good retelling of a classic favorite
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-03
This story is a retelling of the classic tale 'The Emperor's New Clothes'. One day Sly Fox comes to the 100 Acre Wood and claims he can make clothes that only wise people can see, and will make the wearer wiser. Pooh decides he wants a set. One by one the animals in the 100 Acre Wood go and see, or don't see, the set of clothes. While Kanga and Roo aren't fooled, everyone else is, and it isn't until Christopher Robin says that there are no clothes that they realize the truth.

The illustrations are Disney's standard depiction of Pooh- a tubby but cute bear with a red shirt. Sly Fox is very similar in appearance to the fox in Pinnochio. The story is told well, and what with the great illustrations, it is a very good book.

Great Book, Great Information

Dummies Walt Disney World and Orlando is a great reference guide to the theme parks in Orlando. The authors give you personal tips, like the best time of year to go as well as tips on how to do the best rides first.

The hotels and restaurants section gives you everything you need to know about where to stay and eat in Orlando. The hotel listings also include websites so you can see first hand where you are staying.

The book is written in traditional "Dummies" style, which means it gives information on lots of different aspects of traveling to this area.

I really didn't need to have information on every ride and attraction or pictures to get me ready to go to Disney World. But I did need information on restaurants in the area, the other area parks, places to stay, and so forth. So, all-in-all, I found this book to be exactly what I needed for my trip.

To me, going to Disney World without going to some of the other attractions like Sea World and Epcot would be a total waste of the trip!

This book is the most amazing resource for anyone planning a trip to Disney World during a busy (peak season) time. It is loaded with helpful hints about the various resorts, parks, transportation, and dining options. It even offers suggestions about what to pack; from where to view a parade; how to deal with the FASTPASS; Extra Magic Hours. This book will become your "Bible" if you, too, must visit WDW during a peak season.
