Shopping Books

I bought this terrific resource back when we had a family of three, and have used it so much since then (we are now a family of eight) that we have about worn it out, and I need to order a new one. There is never a question of what to fix for dinner, and there only need be one trip to the store each week if one follows the plan. The recipes are classics, in fact, the only recipes I've come to depend on. I don't think that anyone who regularly cooks meals from scratch for a family should be without this book. It also makes a fantastic wedding gift. Salud!

Mr. Greedy goes Shopping is another fine example of Roger Hargreaves excellent work... as with all the Little Miss/ Mr. Men books it is bright and vivid but also teaches young children shapes and counting... this is my favorite children's book of all times...

Being very new to the Atlanta area, I needed some help finding my way around and knowing where to shop for what. This book eased my transition, and more than paid for itself.

I have the Mr. Cheaps guide for many major cities. Great reference for finding good deals.

This book lists all sorts of gems, esp for appliances, electronics and carpeting. Every store I have gone too has been terrific, and their prices the lowest when I did a comparison. However, a lot has changed since 1996 and the book desperately needs to be updated. Mark....please prepare a 2001 version!

When old Lady Prune invites Mr. Potato Head over for dinner, she decides to send him to the store for the groceries. When he loses the list, he decides to rely on his memory for the purchases. Hilarity follows when Mr. Potato Head's memory fails him miserably.

My 7 year-old son loved the colorful pictures in this book, and laughed his way through the story. I have no idea if this story has a moral (if so, it slipped past me), but it is a very entertaining book for children. I always like books that my son wants to reread, and this is one of them.

This book is a quick and easy read, filled with lots of money-saving hints. Just when I thought I knew all there was about saving money, Mary Hance has more tips to share. Written in a conversational way, Mary sounds like she'd make a wonderful neighbor. I'm waiting for the next book she writes!

This book is one of the best rhyming children's books I own. As a preschool teacher I read this book to numerous children who all loved it. Here is an excerpt. "My Aunt Mary went shopping and she bought a giraffe." Next page. "My Aunt Mary went shopping and she bought a giraffe, and a scarf for the giraffe." The story continues with Aunt Mary buying more and more unlikely animals and rhyming clothing items. The animals are delightfully depicted in their attire. A goat gets a coat, a rat gets a hat, and pigs get wigs. There's an uproar when everyone sits down to dinner because the animals want other items. The goat wanted a boat not a coat, and the rat wanted a mat not a hat. "But luckily... very luckily... the llamas loved their pajamas." Bring back this book! It's a treasure.
