Every year people are attacked by animals whose bite carries poison that can cripple and kill. While these creatures (including snakes, spiders, marine life, mammals, amphibians, frogs, birds, and centipedes) are justifiably to be feared and respected, they can also be inherently fascinating for the beauty, their lifestyle, and their contributions to the ecosystems and habitats where they dwell. A coffee table style book that is impressively illustrated throughout with full color photography, "Venomous Animals Of The World" by naturalist, adventure, wildlife expert, and conservationist Steve Backshall provides the non-specialist general reader with a descriptive account of more than sixty animals whose toxins are the most lethal and evolved in response to the need to both attack and defend within the animal kingdom. Informed and informative, "Venomous Animals Of The World" offers such observations as poisons being classified ingested toxins while venoms are injected toxins; the pharmaceutical industry has been able to use animal toxins as the basis for many beneficial drugs; and so much more. With the cited animals being presented and organized according to being found in Europe, North American, Latin America, Africa, Australasia, and Asia, and enhanced with a concluding chapter on 'The Future for Venomous Wildlife', a bibliography for further study, appendices, and an index, "Venomous Animals Of The World" is a welcome and recommended addition to school and community library Pets & Wildlife reference collections and Wildlife Studies supplemental reading lists.

This is an amazing photographic guide of the most common fauna of Western Mexico. It is very useful for tourists visiting Puerto Vallarta, Mexico during vacations. A great part of the species mentioned in this book can be observed just by opening the window of your hotel. That's because Puerto Vallarta is surrounded by the beautiful Tropical forest. The guide give some interesting information of fauna seeing places in Western Mexico and some facts about the species. This book gives a great visual pleasure.

This work is not as accurate as the work in the Herpetocultural Library Series regarding the temperment of some species. However, it does not give poor advice regarding husbandry. It is also thorough in covering every species and subspecies of Nerodia, providing wonderful full-color photos of every representative of this interesting Genus which makes it a great field guide. A must have for the pictures alone.

An ideal children's picturebook

Welcome To Lizard Lounge is an ideal children's picturebook where Laura Hambleton has blended an engaging text with brightly colored and multi-textured illustrations. A lizard thinks to himself that all lizards are the same, until he comes to Lizard Lounge and meets a wide variety of lizard friends with different names and qualities - Gecko, Iguana, Gila Monster, Salamander, and Komodo Dragon. His new friends help him learn what kind of lizard he is and what makes him different, in this fun and vibrant read-aloud tale. A consumable page in back encourages young people to cut out and put together a simple paper chameleon of their own.

My husband & I are mystery fans & thoroughly enjoyed "When Alligators Laugh". The story was tight, & held our interest. We also liked the setting as we visited Singapore & can picture the action. Let us know when the author, Lisa Lanman's new book is out.

Of course as the author, I love this book and have to give it a 5-star rating. But I can tell you that I have done both readings of this book and watched it being read by and to children, even as young as two years of age. Kids love the adventure -- especially when the little lizard sits on a snake and when he meets a stinky skunk. Even if they pick up on the lizard's tail growing back, the look of delight on their faces as they turn the last page is priceless. The most common comment I've heard at the end: "Read it again!"
