This is a wonderfully written book. It is full color, and has so much detail and yet not boring what so ever. The layout is a perfect blend of keeping the page interesting and yet educational. The authors painstakingly take every detail and record it in this book. They write about all the planets, the different types of nebulas, where and how to buy a telescope, types of galaxies, astrophotography, the history of Astromomy, where and how to buy a good pair of binoculars for Astronomy, several sky tours of notable celstial objects, and much much more. Also full of rich pictures. This book kindled my love for Astromomy! What are you waiting for? BUY THIS BOOK!

Susan and Steven Willis' Astronomy: Looking At The Stars provides a history of the science, showing how early astronomers created the foundations for theories and changed their fields. From Copernicus' discoveries about the motion of planets to Tycho Brahe's introduction of astronomical investigative methods, this packs in anecdotes, diagrams, and plenty of history.

This book is a text aimed at the astronomy course that non-science majors might take in fulfillment of the requirement that they can't get out of college without at least one science class. As such, the book goes far beyond simply looking at the solar system and a few stars.
Perhaps the most important concept in the book is for the student to come away with a basic understanding of the scientific method. Here is how you study/observe nature, create a theory, test the theory, use the theory to make predictions, test the predictions, alter the theory as needed. In a time where the President of the United States is talking about things like Intelligent Design as though it is science, this simple explanation of science is sorely needed in the population.
This is the fifth edition of the book. The most important changes in the new edition is the inclusion of new ideas, new photographs, new things that have been discovered since the last edition. Other changes include new writeups, new figures that are hopefuly more clear than in preceeding editions.

Well, if you'd like to have a lot of useful mathemathical formulae on hand when making your astrophysical computations (at any topics as I can admit) then this is the very book you need. My only problem with it is that it doesn't cover all the formulae I needed for my computations but maybe I'm not fair wishing the impossible... Anyway it spared me a really big amount of time when on my desk.

Don't let the size of this book fool you. It is packed with useful information and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about what they see in the night sky. Each section of the book has example objects to view...I really like that aspect of this book.
Don't be concerned about too much technical/mathematical detail. The material is presented in a way that's "meaty" and concise which makes it easy to get the most out of it.
Prior to reading this book I read a college level astronomy text and several amateur astronomy books. I would say this is an important addition to any amateur astronomer's bookshelf. The material is up to date and well presented.

Whether you are a beginner or experienced astronomer, amateur or pro, for shure this book contains something that you don't know, otherwise you would know everything about the sun. It is perhaps the most complete source on solar astonomy available.
Of course it is written in a very "academic" style because it is intended for astrophysics graduate students and researchers, but it can be read by advanced amateurs who are not afraid of mathematical formulas.

Many atheist books I enjoy reading, but this one has a special place in my heart! Not only was it written by Woolsey teller, one of the great atheist pioneers in Amerca, but it's sublime, poetic wording and clarity of argument make it one of my favorite books of all time. It is precisely the opposite of the intelligent design nonsense that we hear so much about from religious camps today and it refutes such notions by way of observations of our solar system and other facts of astronomy.
Though some of the astronomical observations in it are obsolete by today's standards, I was astounded at just how informative and accurate the book was. Teller is a truly gifted writer and his arguments should be heralded as remarkable vindications of the atheist position.
