I read 'mental discipline' years ago while racing as an amateur cyclist in my 20's and found it to be the most insightful,logical and practical book to guide someone seeking maximal athletic capacity. Michael Livingstone writes the book in three styles.The first is a very practical approach to training that is comprehensive, although aimed at the athletic layman.The second is focused around tying his broad philosophical experiences to what would seem to be the mutually exclusive world of peak athletic performance.The third is an indepth look at the physiology and anatomy of human movement. While training , I had a voracious appetite for literature concerning training principles, maximising efficiency and return on the effort put in , and this book sticks in my mind as the one that eclipsed all others in terms of accuracy of information and clearly explaining fundamental principles of improving a desired activity. The scope of this book is broad.The principles apply equally well to academic studies as they do to athletics. Michael Livingstone has groundtruth in his book, having rowed at a national level for many years in the U.S. . This sport is an ideal example of an activity in which not only a peak physiological state is required, but also the mental discipline to perfectly co-ordinate your activities with 3 or 7 other athletes to effect a winning outcome.He is now a highly successful businessman. It is NOT light reading but if you are lost in a world of training confusion and mixed advice, I highly recommend you to chew your way through it. I guarantee if you put the principles to practice you will give yourself the best chance of achieving your potential. Summarised in three words: Specificity Intensity Duration

Fantastic book for coaches, explaining all aspects of mental training to coaches. All examples and tests lead to training programmes that coaches themselves can set up. No need for team psychotherapist. Works in all players I did it with.....

In September 1999 when I became a staff member of Miami University, I was given several books to read regarding Miami's history. Although I'm not a sports fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the Cradle of Coaches. The story of how the "famous" coaches came to be and why Miami was called the "cradle" is a fascinating story. Remember Ara Parashegian...he was a Miami coach. If you love to know how coaches became "famous", read Cradle of Coaches! Go Redhawks!

The book is a great reference for the right foods to eat for weight training. You should buy it if you are interested!

This book is an excellent introduction to the movement work of Dr. Milton Trager M.D. It contains both theory and practical movements. It also has very interesting photos of Dr. Trager both as a young man, and as a very active old man. It is easy to read, as it was not actually written, but was spoken by Dr. Trager, and written down by his students over a number of years.

I couldn't put this book down. These two guys latch on to that movin' on up theme and never let go - from 1883 right on up to the present. I finished the book in a day and ended up wanting them to cover so many more stories and legends. They said in the introduction that they wouldn't and couldn't cover everything. That was my only disappointment - that they didn't, but then the book would have been several thousand pages long! The inside story of the Phillie Phanatic losing his head and the two aurhors' serious reflections about Veteran's Stadium were worth the price just all by themselves. I hope they come out with Movin' On Up volume 2!

Before reading this book all the racing I had previously done had been in my local area. Thanks to this excellant book I have all the info. that I need to plan out of town races. With the result that I have recently ran top class races such as "Bolder Boulder", "Bix7", "Beach to Bay Relay", "Michael Forbes Trolley Run". Can anybody tell when the next edition will be coming out?

every page is full of nba legends who made their success to be in the nBa. I higly recommemned this book.!

Very similiar to the 1999 NCAA Stat book, but this book deals only with the NCAA Tournament. Gives records for each round, and historic records for each school and coach. I particularly liked the brackets that the book had in the back. All NCAA tournaments (1939 to 1999) were listed.

I have an exhausting job in charge of the cooling system at a nuclear power plant, so 'New Energy For You!: Rid Yourself of Tiredness For Good' is just the thing I've been looking for. Whenever I feel like a nap at work, I use it as a pillow.
