What a wonderful pictorial history of Georgetown University. As part of The College History Series, "Georgetown University" chronicles the school's evolution into one of the most prestigious universities in the US. The authors provide pictures and documents dating back to the founding days of the "Academy at George Town." As a former resident of the DC area, I never appreciated the colorful history, nor the importance of the institution until this book. I think it would be a treasured gift for any student of Georgetown University -- past, present or future!
A must-read for those with ties to DC and/or Georgetown.

This book truly captures the essence of what makes Georgetown such a special place. The images offer a fascinating glimpse of a school that grew with our nation, and the captions are succinct and insightful. Certainly an interesting read for any history buff, but a must-have for anyone with ties to the university.
The perfect gift for incoming students & all Gtown grads!

I gave this book to a friend who graduated from Georgetown and she absolutely loved it! Before wrapping the book, as a Hoya myself, I couldn't help but read it from cover to cover. (If the author reads this, don't worry, I went out and bought my own copy!) The authors have done a thorough job of researching the history of Georgetown and have included amazing/intersting pictures & facts about the university. Any incoming student, alumni, Washingtonian, or person generally interested in college history, will appreciate this book for years to come.
A "Must Have" for any parent, student or alum!

This lively book covers many of Brown's memorable sports moments. Rhode Islander Gordon Morton III is a graduate of the college, he pays special attention to the many Rhode Island-raised Brown student athletes who have gone on to shape Rhode Island life through public service. Replete with lots of pictures, this fun, little book is a great addition to the library of any student, alum, or other fan.

Forensic architect Bob Skaler really did his homework putting together a pictorial history of West Philadelphia. Though none of my family ever settled in the area, I was fascinated to read about the ethnic makeup of the different neighborhoods in addition to being treated to very rare photos from Skaler's postcard collection (which he has been assembling for the better part of 50 years).
He treats the reader to a thorough history of each neighborhood (or village, as it was formerly known) and goes into detailed explanation of the architecture of the houses that once stood in those areas (he rips architect H.E. Flower a new one for his design of rowhomes in the Parkside section of West Philly - homes that had their walls knocked down because the original homeowners weren't crazy about having to share a common stairwell).
A University of Pennsylvania graduate, Skaler did an excellent job in handling West Philly's history - from University City to 52nd Street.

West Philadelphia is a well written history with 200 wondeful and rare vintage photographs of West Philadelphia as it looked 100 years ago. The author explains how West Philadelphia developed and documents many of the architects and owners of the buildings shown. We were thrilled to see a picture in the book of our old family home and local church as they looked in 1905.Those who lived in West Philadelphia at one time or are living in the area now will greatly enjoy the book.It documents an area of Philadelphia that may soon be lost . We gave it 5 stars!

This is a great book, a must-have if you're a Gator fan. If you've ever been to the gatorsports site, you know Gator fans just can't get enough. (There's even a CD in honor of "Bull Gator Steve" that I hope Amazon will have available.) There's nothing dry and boring about this history; it's full of great pictures, legendary tales, and all the spirit that makes us Gator fans keep on growling!

This book was a gift, and was well received since I have always had a liking of the Finger Lakes region of western New York State.Chronicles through the photos of a bright, fairly well to do lad, who was into photography when few but professionals could afford a camera. Family life as well as local events and social gatherings are all caught in time by his relatively good photographic eye. Filled will local images and pretty good captions ( some left me wanting a bit more info),the first part focuses on life around the town of Lima NY,then as he grows up and travels he visits many more distant land marks (some now long gone) and captures many of the places that made the Finger Lakes so desirable for the wealthy from the 1800's until the Great Depression. Great broad range of subject matter make this a must have for any history buff into America at the turn of the century and especially if you have roots in the Finger Lakes.

This is the second book of poetry by Chris Bursk that I've had the pleasure to read. I was lucky in that I got to hear him give a reading of some of these poems at a writers conference. His readings are absolutely fantastic, and it helps that the poems are brilliant. In many of them, he gives new life to the alphabet and language--dedicating poems to various letters. You probably never thought of the letter "a", for instance, like this: "Awake, it takes the first watch. Absolute allegiance required of this combat-weary vowel." The poems are funny and provocative. I plan to use poems from this book as a model for my teenage poetry students at the Kaleidoscope Summer Arts Camp. I know they will love them as much as I do.

As a Lambuth alumnus, I was very pleased to see such a fantastic collection of photos from years past. It brought back fond memories of my years there. The book is divided into sections by decade and college president. It covers Lambuth from its founding as MCFI through today. Now as a current professor at Lambuth, I hope that I can help contribute to the next edition!

This book is a great comprehensive history of a college that had to overcome tremendous odds to get back on its' feet and survive. I was a student at Marshall during these difficult times and I found the book a great history of what happened and a tribute to the spirit of a great school. Marshall has a great legacy....We Are Marshall...

This is a nicely done overview of Northern Kentucky University's first 30+ years as an institution of higher learning. Since the school is so young, all of the pictures are contemporary and show the school and surrounding since its inception. One of my favorite images is an aerial view of the freshly cleared land from the intersection of US 27 and Nunn Drive. In the distance, Nunn hall is visible, but little else. In the foreground the Hiland Motel is still standing, and though the land has been cleared, nothing stands on the site of the eventual Thriftway store. This is a great series of books for anyone interested in local history.
