Athletics Books

An excellent book for students of degree level. Not suitable for the novice. During my studies I have found this to be an outstanding reference book and an indispensible aid to writing assignments. The book is detailed scientifically but is easy to follow and has plenty of studies done to back up the information given. A top class book.

This book was even more than I expected. It was everything I needed to know to obtain a scholoarship to a good school!

The author has quite obviously taken a great deal of time to examine how a student/athlete can obtain a scholarship. It is a must read for the senior at the high school level with a dream of attending a U.S. or Canadian college or university. It worked for me!

This modest work is well-organized, precise, and concise, with plenty of photos, to preserve the technics of an interesting Western martial art. It presents an older style of Savate Chasse' Croise', that preceded later Savate Sportive and modern kickboxing. The author, Bruce Tegner, learned this Art during World War Two from a rare Mentor of Savate Classique; Jean-Claude Gautier in Quebec, Canada.

One can see in it a combination of fencing, kicking, and boxing -- using bare fists and feet in shoes. The fencing aspects appear in the on-guard stance, [T-position of feet], some of the footwork, [skips, lunges, and advances], and the checking parries and returns. The fluid kicks cover many angles, ranges, and levels. The boxing moves include older bare-knuckle punches. This bare-knuckle boxing also appears in some of the footwork, [shuffles], as well as in the on-guard stance, [in-line upper-lead and lower-rear fists].

The later editions of this work seem to go toward more modern kickboxing without actually getting there. The older styles of Savate seem closer to their non-sports realism. All-in-all this first 1960 edition by Bruce Tegner shows a necessary and sufficient array of graceful and practical kickboxing-based self-defenses -- especially when furthered via associated "scissoring" grappling skills +++

Great reference book. All students should use when preparing for the certification exam.

Drs. Rankin and Ingersoll have taken the art of management and applied it to health care. This book has a target audience of athletic trainers but it is approproiate for any health care facility. The selection and progression of chapters assists the student in learning the complex subject of management. They have done an excellent job of presenting various views in a non-partial manner. Well recommended!

If you want to truly prepare for the athletic trainers certification exam, this is THE book to get. It's complete, easy to follow, and best of all really gives you a sense of what the exam will be like. The authors' advice is second to none. Highly recommended!

Whether you are a casual jogger or a world-class athlete, I can't think of a better book for a woman athlete to have at hand. Ms. Graham covers everthing: from competing during your period to choosing a sports bra. This should be the active woman's bible.

The book is exceptionally well-organized. The first section of the book covers health concerns, while the second half of the book is a catalogue of sports in which women participate. Graham's language is straight-forward and friendly, with lots of great tips.

It's about time a book like this was published. I'm just glad that it was written by the capable hands of Janis Graham, who has a stellar career as a freelancer covering women's health and fitness issues.

I really appreciate what mark stang does. Culling from wire photos, collectors and the hall of fame, Stang builds a great photo history of players and teams. He manages to focus on players who are not famous, and photos not often seen. His books are invaluable to anyone who collects vintage baseball material.

What a delight to find a book on the Amazon site that concerns the professional
baseball life of my cherished Granduncle, Connie Mack. Allowing for personal
prejudice for this beloved gentleman, we enjoyed the book. More, it was my
pleasure to have been in his company on many occasions every summer when the
A's played the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Please read this book and enjoy this notable period in baseball history which is now, sadly, lost to us forever.
