This book provides an easy to read and follow game plan for those seeking to enter the medical field. However, the book is not for the "non-traditional" student (those looking at medical school durring or after their Pre-Graduate years). It would be best to read it, as the book sugests itself, as a High School Student. But hey, if you've ever wondered about what it takes to become a Dr or your just a big ER fan, the books actually a pretty good read.

Fantastic book! Great place to start!

Every single person considering medical school needs to read this book. It has great tips for medical students at all walks of the game, from high school students to the nontraditional student (like me). It has tips I haven't seen anywhere else... like buying the MSAR when you're a freshman at the latest and working backwards from what schools want, and making yourself that person. This book would be an especially wonderful gift for the student who "thinks" they want to be a doctor, but doesn't yet know what the journey will be like. It covers pre-college preparations, college requirements and tips, the admissions process, choosing a school, the MCAT, financial aid, and what medical school will be like once you're there. More in-depth references will be needed for the MCAT, but this is a great get-started book.

My only complaint is Appendix A (of schools)... some info is incorrect, and some medical schools are completely missing from the list. But, that's information readily available elsewhere. The book is worth the price for the tips alone!

Teaches you the fundamentals, but isn't quite enough

This is essentially the Kaplan Fifth Edition LSAT book (2001-2003) with a different cover -- all of the content and practice tests are the same. This version is printed on brittle, recycled paper -- like what Princeton Review does.

The explanations for practice exams are solid and consistent, but they don't include a "fifth" experimental section, so the exams are 35 minutes shorter than the real LSAT. I found this book more helpful as an administrative brochure than a studying tool -- everything on how, where, and when to register for the LSAT/LSDAS services are in here, as well as some helpful guidelines on strengthening the overall law school application.

Kaplan's LSAT prep book is an effective priming tool to those interested in taking the exam, but it shouldn't be relied upon by itself. Being a horrible standardized test taker, I appreciated the full package of the book -- Kaplan devotes a quarter of the pages to test-taking strategies, another quarter on exam-day details and the law school application/admissions process, and the final half to practice tests. The book is written in a very clear and informative style that contains quite a few effective strategies for the "completely ignorant" LSAT student. Anyone who has no idea what the LSAT is all about will surely find this to be a great primer when starting a study plan. Yet, I have the feeling that their Kaplan prep course reserves most of the best tricks for those willing to fork over the cash.

Ultimately, I think the Kaplan book was a worthwhile investment but get the CD-less package instead. You're paying extra for the CD and I found it was completely worthless -- it frequently crashed on my Windows 2000 computer and I didn't even need it to study because using a CD to study doesn't simulate a real test-day experience. Kudos for the book, but the CD is nothing more than a wasted coaster.

This book is absolutely phenominal. I used it and I must say that my score significantly rose. I was getting in the 130ish range and after completing this couse I am scoring in the 160s. This book gets into the minds of the LSAC and shows you to solve the problem from THEIR point of view instead of wasting time by meditating on a problem for minutes without a general process of thought.

Forget it buy the actual tests

Buy the actual tests instead of this product.
The Kaplan tests don't have the same feel as the
actual tests. You are wasting your money with this
product. True understanding of the LSAT comes only through careful self-analysis of the actual tests. As cruel as this sounds, if you need someone to explain the answers to you then you shouldn't consider taking this test for the answers to all the questions are readily attainable if you are given the right amount of time.

This book is worth having simply so you can quote real opinions written in the style of Genesis or Mark Twain. It also points out amusing cases -- talking cats leap to mind -- that might otherwise be buried by their more serious brethren. The chapters on how the court systems work, what memoranda should look like, and what certain legal terms mean are easy to understand, and it's useful to have them all in one place. I didn't care for the many pages on why law school is run the way it is, but you might be interested. Overall, it's a practical handbook and a great reminder that law is not as serious a business as everyone seems to think.

Mostly Unnecesary Study Aid
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-28
Think twice before you get this book. All three tests in the book are available in other, more recent study books. It contains PrepTests 11, 12, & 13, which correspond to June 1994, October 1994, and December 1994, respectively. All three of these tests are available in "10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests.

The only things this book has that you won't find other places:
-Explanations for ten Logical Reasoning questions from PrepTest 11.
-Explanations for ten Reading Comprehension questions from Preptest 11.
-Explanations for ten Logical Game questions from PrepTest 11.
-50 writing sample prompts. (The writing sample changed in June 2005, adding a second type where you analyze an argument...the "argument prompt". The samples in this book only represent half of the essays, the "decision prompt".

There's no real reason to get this book. Few people practice with more than one or two prompts (if that). You get prompts with other PrepTests you buy so it is overkill. Maybe it would be useful if English wasn't your first language.

The explanations are also sub-par. LSAC's explanations from "The Official LSAT Superprep" and "The Official LSAT PrepTest with Explanations" are much better.

Don't just rely on this !!

yes, it is real previous test, but whenever the book mentioned explanation included, i expected full explanation on each one, but it is NOT. they only explain the selective question of one test, not 3 tests, which is kind of disappointed. and they don't teach you the strategy at all, you have to look at the cracking LSAT book for that. All above, the is a subsidary book only.

I took the LSAT this fall, and I think that the most worthwhile and practical way to study for it is by taking these tests. While other books may be full of "hints" and "tips" the only way to really know what an LSAT will be like is by taking one, or preferably several.

Major disappointment

Review Date: 2002-12-03
I was hoping this book would help me study for my National Certification test for bodywork, but after finding an error on one of the first pages, I put the book down. I certainly didn't want to study incorrect information, and I was afraid that I might not find any other errors, as I'm just learning and wouldn't necessarily know that I was memorizing things I shouldn't be! I contacted the publishing company to inquire as to any updated pages with corrections, and have been unable to get results. I paid a lot of money for nothing, and was greatly disappointed.

The most comprehensive test book I've seen.

I was impressed and a bit overwhelmed by the level of questioning in this book. Doing the practice tests (with Mosby's medical encyclopedia at my side!) helped me to over prepare for the national exam and made me realize how much more I have yet to learn. Some of the questions were misleading in terms of their wording, yet overall I would say it was very helpful. It lacks questioning for shiatsu and acupressure points and locations, which there were many on the national exam. Overall, I am glad I purchased it over the other study guides I saw. This one at least offers more information than you'll actually need to know. It 's a bit of overkill but in a good way.

I found this book to be helpful in studying for the NCETMB. This book helped me to focus on the types of questions to study for. It was well-organized and showed me what I needed to study more. If you really want a great study guide get the following which is also on amazon.com:
The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
Volume 1, Volume 2, and Volume 3
These study guides showed the kind of questions the national certification test asked. These study guides took away a lot of surprise questions on the test, otherwise, I would not have known or prepared for.

This edition will help you only if you have at least 2-3 months to prepare for LSAT. The explanations are helpful in reading section. The logical/analytical reasoning section offers great tips on how to solve the problems in minimal amount of time. Using those little tables/charts will help you sort out the wrong answers and point out the right one. This is the only way you can get the questions right, because you don't have much time to sit there and think about it thoroughly.
Good luck!

Review Date: 2001-08-11
the reading comprehension section is OK, but the logic games section is no help at all. the book includes all these old styles of puzzles that the LSAT no longer uses, which is a waste of time, and only gives minimal advice on how to tackle the problems (write down all the information, make a chart-- um, duh). the sample tests at the end of the book even use the same problems as the example problems you studied with, so it's hard to know if you're improving because you actually learned something or you just remember that particular problem from the chapter. irritating.

What "research?"
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-20
This book has had the same exact tests for the past couple of years! I bought this one around 1996 (it had a different front cover back then) and I looked at the "new" one and the tests were exactly the same! The verbal sections here don't even reflect the trend in the actual MCAT exam. The real MCAT has had 9 verbal passages for the past several years now and this book only has 7! How dare they claim themselves "Research" and Educational Association? What "research?!" I really don't understand why someone gave this one a 5 start rating. The only thing they changed is the front cover. Listen, if you want to score well, don't purchase this one, buy something else. And, don't tell me I didn't warn you.

Unfortunately I find that this book has very little to do with the current CSP exam. Several of the answers to the review questions are WRONG. Most of the review is based on toxicology and/or industrial hygiene material.

Very outdated, incorrect material and not focused on the CSP exam.

Not worth the money or the effort.

I ordered this book having at least three months to study. I must say the book reviews a lot but it does fall short in some areas. It would of been a whole lot better if they would of explained the answers to the Practice Test at the end. They did provide explanations to the practice problems but not to the Big Practice Exam they have at the end, though they did provide the answers. The positives about the book is that its exactly like the exam. You get familiar with the way the questions are asked and that was a real plus when i took the test. It was as if i knew where the questions were heading.Best one out there though.
