General but Helpful Overview!Review Date: 2003-04-16
The strongest sections of this book deal with how to write the personal statement, and how to create a special theme for your application. These sections give practical and insightful advice, allowing readers to hone in on their strengths and weaknesses.
The main drawback of this book is that most chapters are brief and pretty general. If I could suggest to Kaplan how to improve this book, I'd tell them to expand their shorter sections with more indepth material.
Overall, I'd recommend that readers check this book at their local bookstores first. It's possible that you can obtain all the secrets and tips on a brief skim of the book. For others who have not done much reading on applying to law schools, this book should be useful to them.

Veterinary SchoolReview Date: 2007-11-10
The book is by a true expert - the former Director of Admissions at Cornell's famed veterinary school - and the insights are exceptionally practical, such as classes to take in high school as well as in college. It has wise advice on choosing the college to attend when veterinary school is the ultimate goal. The author also stresses the importance of large-animal experience and references from practicing veterinarians in the admissions process, as it is highly competitive.
At the back of the book are three very practical appendices - lists of veterinary schools and organizations, veterinary technology programs in community and technical colleges, and animal and veterinary organizations. Vet tech programs are a wonderful alternative for those who do not feel a DVM program is the right fit. I found one such program a short drive from my home.

This is the only book on this subject and is very good.Review Date: 2008-01-20
You need to see at least one recommendation letter to understand what does it actually mean. I couldn't find a single free sample reco letter on net that I could use and as far as books on this subject are concerned, this is the only one. So, you don't have much of a choice here.
But the good thing is in spite of being the only book about reco letters; this book is actually quite good. 30 sample letters will give you enough material to prepare detailed recos. Moreover, it's available as PDF, so you are spared the headaches of shipping and all that too.
The only reason I didn't give a 5 star to this book is because I couldn't find another book to compare it with. I'm sure the book could be improved further but even in its current version, it's of great value.

a fine prep sourceReview Date: 2006-05-11
If you want to buy only 1 AP English Lit. prep book, I'd recommend the Princeton Review. It's more compact and doesn't beat around the bush.

I read this book straight through with a highlighter and pencil and it helped me get through the application process smoothly. It's well written and user friendly. I strongly recommend purchasing this book even if you're just thinking about applying to graduate school. It really makes you think about the entire process, not just the "going-to-school" part.
