Heaven by a twist of fate escapes a house fire in this latest edition of this electric series. With a reluctant goodbye to Hiro she's off to the dazzle of Las Vegas where she seeks an old friend. In Las Vegas one can be blown wayward on their path and Heaven says Hello to an old friend-Katie and a new bubbly friend-Mr. Alcohol which she had a wild, reckless and ultimately humiliating relationship with in Book 3 The book of the Pearl (remember the jelly fish scene?). The alcohol misuse aside this is a fun, fast paced book. We see a new side of Teddy which makes him a more multi dimensional character and something very sweet and wonderful happens at the end (quess cuz I'm not going to tell!:)
All in all a great book in the series. And if you look at the end of the book there is a preview of another book (from a wonderful series) Fearless.

The First Review

Ok even though there are numerous copies for sale it seems no one has read this book. I have, so I will tell you what I think. First off I have read almost all the great fire books from the Circus Fire to Triangle Shirtwaist company and the Chicago theater, Chicago itself, Ou lady of Holy Angels school.

This book does two things. One it flatly tells the story as expected from a bunch of flat writing newspaper writers. There is not much for personal stories or vivid images of what happened inside the burning building. It is not graphic or gripping by any means. But it does tell the story.

Second this is the only fire disaster book that shows the fire department in a good light. It tels a lot of stories of rescue and how the fire department actually had the opportunity to save lives.

Good for the collector but not a great read by any means.

This book was very helpful in finding a hotel for 4 nights in Las Vegas. I am a graduating senior from college this May and my boyfriend and I were looking for a vacation spot that I could afford my half of the trip using my graduation money. The Family Fun Guide to Las Vegas, which I happened to see pop up as a banner ad while doing internet research on Los Vegas, was very helpful in finding a hotel for $40 a night in such short notice!

Thank you,

This book was beneficial to my wife and me as we are rookie Vegas tourists. The book is informative in all the areas we wanted to know about: lodgings, food, things to see and do, weather conditions, things to avoid, where to rent a car, intinerary ideas, etc. We got our $$'s worth out of this book and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for Vegas info from a 'novice' perspective.

Analyzing the psyche of Las Vegas
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-15
Las Vegas is a unique city in the history of the world in that it was founded by those seeking escape, and exists as a place for those seeking to escape. The latter has created a city built on catering to the desires of other people, which is the topic of this short book. Whether it be gambling, shows, sex, or exotic animals, no other city in human history has so excelled at providing entertainment of so many forms and types in one place at one time. The book examines the different spectacles offered by Las Vegas, with a close eye on the appropriate history, business aspects, and ironies. Each chapter focuses on one specific spectacle; such as art, wildlife, and dance shows. In each, the author traces the development of that spectacle from its origins in Western history to its growth in American culture, and final establishment in Vegas. For each, the author also shows how private and public actors interact to create the final product seen by tourists. All in all, a very interesting and good work. This reviewer has visited Las Vegas twice, and after reading this book, I more fully understand it now and appreciate when went into creating it.

All of Eyewitness top 10 guides are great and this one is no exception. It clearly lays out great places to eat and shop. I do disagree with some of the choices and as a person who goes to Vegas many times a year I would do a few things different. Despite that it is still worth its four stars.

Not A Picture-Postcard View
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1999-06-12
Not a sterotypical, picture-postcard view of Las Vegas, this book captures sights and elements of the Entertainment Capital of the World through a photgrapher's eye. At some types surreal, at all times captivating, it is a pleasant visit to Vegas focusing on on streamlined, beatiful photography. Mr. Newton's introduction properly sets up the visuals, with his insight into this One-Of-A-Kind city. Definitely worthwhile, especially for those NOT looking for a typical tourbook!

I thought that this book was wonderful. The characters were people who were easy to relate to. The plot was wonderful, with many unexpected twists. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a mixture of emotions in their books. It also depicts Vegas very well. You really can get a feeling that you are there.
