It is a short easy read that doesn't go beyond the scope of novices, yet not too simple for short distance runners ready to attempt a marathon.

I bought this book in 1982, a time before liquid carbohydrates, heart rate monitors, and tempo runs. What it lacked in technological mumbo-jumbo, it more than makes up with a stick to this running schedule and you'll finish a marathon period simplicity. The training program is not confusing because it's based on time and not on distance. You'll get to a point (something like 5 months into running) when you'll be logging hours on the road. That's the time when you'll be ready. Great book! A true comfort book for runners.

Jim Shea's Best Yet

Huskie Mania is among some of the finer works of modern non-fiction sports literature in print today. Huskie Mania, which is both editorial and factual, contains Shea's thoughts and opinions on the University of Connecticut's basketball teams, both men's and women's, as well as exclusive information on coaches, team members, and games not found anywhere else. And along with his sentimental view points are the authentic, legitimate, unquestionable, and valid approaches to what really went on behind the scenes of college basketball at the University of Connecticut. Unique in its approach, breathtaking in its style and brilliant in its sincerity, Huskie Mania is a must-read for children, teenagers, adults, parents, and especially basketball fans. I reccomend this book to anyone who has ever had a dream to do something amazing, for it will inspire you to become anything you want to be. Shea, if you are out there, congratulations on a book well written and a job well done. You truly are one of the, if not the, greatest author of all time.

An excellent book. You can tell the author has gone to great lengths to research the information. I have found only a few minor errors. The only thing that keeps this book from being rated a "10" is that goaltenders should have their own section.

All the numbers on the minors you'll need.

Minor professional hockey has exploded onto the North American sports scene over the past 10-12 years. Ten years ago the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) was founded in what was once nontraditional hockey markets. The success of the ECHL has been nothing less than stunning. Indeed, the success of the ECHL has spawned the likes of a reborn Central Hockey League, the West Coast Hockey League and the upstatrt Western Professional Hockey League. Why is this important to address? There are now nearly 2,000 professional hockey players in these and other minor hockey leagues in the United States. Each of the 2,000 generate statistics for goals scored, assists, penalty minutes, goaltending, and minutes played among a host of others. Sports are driven by statistics and Tom Schettino of Arizona has put them all together in this amazing compendium of numbers and comparisons of hockey stats for the 1996/1997 hockey season.

The stats section of the book starts with Tobias Ablad a defenseman for Jacksonville Lizard Kings of the ECHL and finishes with Sergei Zyagin of the Quad City Mallards of the Colonial (United) Hockey League. In between are every player's stats from every minor league franchise in North America. Interspersed are photographs from around the leagues. In addition, the back of the book features short term players for different teams, goaltending stats, and final league standings for the 1996/1997 season.

Any fan of the sport of hockey will enjoy the numbers in this book. It is an outstanding effort by Schettino who loves hockey and demonstrates that affection through his meticulous attention to details and accuracy in "The Ice Pages". This is a book for the research and fan shelf.

Ranking my favorite running books is like choosing favorite children. You love 'em all equally, right? While the Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is a better literary achievement and Once a Runner is a more believable account of what it is like to be a runner, there is something special about Iron Duke that sets it apart. A good read for young adults and runners Iron Duke has that rare combination of great story and heart; Tunis certainly caught Lightning in a bottle with this one! But don't take my word, read for yourself.

It still works!

As an experiment, I decided to use this book for two weeks with the suggested music. To my amazement, it really works! I'm just 20 and so it is a huge novelty not to follow a tv screen.
In the book, Jane doesn't just address aerobics, but where society places people in life, the enviroment and healthy eating.
I now have this workout on DVD so really use the book as reference to healthy living.
You would have thought that it would be hard to follow a book to workout with. But it isn't. For every move there are professionally taken indepth photographs with descriptions.
You really use this book until you remember the moves off by heart. But it's use doesn't stop there as it is jam packed with so much information.
And the funny thing is it feels better working out in the absense of a television screen.

GREAT FITNESS BOOK FOR BODY AND LIFE

I purchased this book based on three things. One I wanted to see an example of Jane Fonda's original 1982 workout(hard to find/expensive). Two I love almost all of JF workouts. Three the one review I read confirmed I needed this for my collection. This is truly a wonderful book I can see why it was a best seller. This book offers information on a wide range of subjects from self-esteem, diet, social and enviromental issues, not to mention the two workouts. This was a great buy.
This book offers a begginer and advanced workout. Each workout begins with warm-up and ends with a cool down. At the begging of each exercise routine there is a list of music that could accompany the exercise. This can be used as a guide to choosing your own music. Both routines have an aerobics, arms, waist, abs, hips and thighs, bottocks. The workouts last about 30-45 for beginner and 40-60 mins for advanced. The cardio portion of both workouts are simple but short, however you can easily extend it.
This workout is great for the flexibility it offers. This is a workout that you can truly make your own. You could even do it while you are watching television. One of the things I really liked was making my own music to this workout. Being abel to chose your own music that you enjoy, really keeps you going. This is great if you like to make compilation tapes or cds.
Now I know what your thinking I don't go for exercise books. And for the most part I would agree, with all the page turning reading descriptions and the pictures that make no sense. But this is written and shown in a very clear manner. Over time this should just be a guide. Because you should start to memorize the workout.
This is a great workout if your short on time or you don't feel like going to the gym of even putting a exercise tape in the vcr. This workout out is total body toning. You could even use light hand weights during some of the arm movements for extra work. However some of the movements can be jarring and hard on the joints. Just modify it to fit your own personal needs. If it feels wrong don't do it. If you like this workout I would recommend Jane Fonda's New Workout Book or VHS and Jane Fonda's Women Coming of Age and Jane Fonda's Easy Going Workout.

While it may appear that some of the information in this book may be a bit dated, don't let that put you off. This is still one of the best running books in print. It gives down to earth advice and is certainly inspirational. I first read this one when it was published and still give it a read ever few years. Highly recommend this one.
