This book is great, written with crystal clarity and well paced. It is a must for anyone reviewing the questions of what is knowledge and what are we really trying to teach in school and associated probes. It seems best for someone with a math or science backgrounds but I would be interested in the opinions of those with other backgrounds; a theologian recommended it to me. It is long but one doesn't have to target reading the entirety, certainly not by any date certain. Excellent anyway.

This is the definitive text of Bernard Lonergan's most important work, Insight, with over 130 revisions, based on the meticulous labor of comparing three texts, line by line, word by word! All students of Lonergan's thought owe a great debt to Frs. Frederick E. Crowe and Robert M. Doran for having executed their task with such thoughtfulness, perfection and devotion. Corresponding pages to the second edition of Insight, which has been the standard one, are given in brackets. My previous review was based on the second edition.

If somebody loves you authentically so much so that you become better person than before, you can't help loving him dearly. It happens. And it can happen even through a book! In this incredable book called "insight", you are invited to a wonderland of a higly diffentiated intelligence, only to find that it is no other than your real self. At first you wonder, you ask, you think hard, and you get it! For the first time you come to know what is understanding. You begin to doubt, you reflect, and finally you judge that you are a knower! Now you are changed. Now you know you are consciously operating in your experiencing, understanding, judging, and deciding. Now you know what knowledge is, what it means to you, and how it means to you. You become a living, knowing, acting subject. And you come to love Lonergan, since he introduced you to yourself. To "read" Insight may take a long time, years or decades. However when you finish it, you will begin to take another long trip to yourself, where no one had gone before...

Lonergan, a Thomistic philosopher, tries to explain the procedures of human mind, discerning a transcendental method capable to establish a fundamental pattern of every operation present in cognitional action."What am I doing when I am knowing?",that's the previous question Lonergan attempts to answer. This is possible integrating the operations "experiencing","understanding" and "judging",an INSIGTH which brings a startling unity to knowledge and to the pursuit of understanding in every field.

We were very unhappy we bought this through Amazon. The seller was asked to please put a RUSH on this book because our trip was planned in two weeks. We did not receive a response from the seller indicating it would be longer and we didn't receive out book before our trip to Colorado. It was a big disappointment. Never again.

The detailed and varied information in this book far exceedes other comparable travel books. It is well organized and concise. Especially enjoyable are the historical backgrounds provided about each place. Knowing Colorado better than my home state, as I travel there frequently, I would not go without this book!

The Colorado Guide (5th edition) is exactly what I was looking for in a Colorado guide book. Besides giving your usual guide information for Colorado, it also included some of the more unusual places to check out, like the Wheeler Geological Site for example, near Creede, CO. Wonderful history stories of areas of interest, and food and lodging info/ratings also. I use it to find new ares to explore and as a reference. I highly recommend The Colorado Guide, especially if your looking to explore this beautiful state.

This book has never let me down.

For those of us fascinated by the Lewis and Clark Expedition, this new novel by Jeffrey W. Tenney uses fiction to bring history dramatically to life. With an engaging style and a superb breadth of knowledge, the author has crafted a masterpiece. Reading this book will reveal the challenges and eventual triumphs of this first "Man to the Moon" quest in the nascent United States.

This one, plain and simple, has made me a believer in historical fiction. Too much of what I have tried in the past has suffered from weak and glorified characterizations, improbable, synthetic, hyped, and ultimately lifeless re-portrayals of media-worn events. Jeffrey W. Tenney provides us with a ground-level view of the historical, wherein the epic is broken down into its smallest, untidiest increments, and characters falter as much as they charge ahead. Everyone knows the basic plot and the 'star' characters of this epic story. Who would not now, after so many conventional renditions, prefer to see the Lewis and Clark Expedition through the eyes of characters like William Clark's slave, York? Or through those of the hunters, who spend most of their time in the backcountry where 'captain's orders' pale in the presence of the onrushing grizzly bear or the hard-faced Indian warrior? Tenney's narrative, pacing, and dialogue take the reader on a smooth, entertaining ride, but characters are the heart of this novel. The soldiers, hunters, guides, and boatmen of the Expedition, as well as the Indians met along the way, come in those mixes of flaw and virtue that make people interesting and sympathetic. Characters must battle their own inner enemies while contending with the layers of outer conflict the author heaps upon them. Using a highly creative structure, in each new chapter Tenney shifts perspective to portray different characters' experiences with these struggles. This device makes for chapters as vivid as short stories, the whole of the novel unfolding like a carefully pieced and brightly hued quilt. I recommend Corps of Discovery highly for the history buff, but even more so for the novice of that genre, as a guide to what it can be at its best.

My son found this book at our local library and checked it out every two weeks for a year. He loves to read it using different voices for the characters. This year he decided that his cousin, also named Avery, needed his own copy for Christmas. It is an easy bedtime story for a three year old who loves all things cowboy.

I love children's books that tell stories, and this storyline is entertaining, as well as, motivating for children with a low self esteem. My children and I enjoyed the author's writing style, including a western accent... that I would try to imitate while reading. I would highly recommend this book for every children's library.

Avery is a kid who just can't seem to get things right at Cowboy Camp. Or can he? In Cowboy Camp, it's Avery to the rescue when he and the other kids discover that it's not only okay to be yourself -- it's what being a true cowboy is all about. I read this one to a class of kindergarteners last week and they loved it. It's going up on my shelf right next to my Tacky books. Cute, clever and lots of fun!

Avery wants to be a cowboy, but when he arrives at Cowboy Camp, he takes one look at the other campers and knows he doesn't have what it takes. Who ever heard of a cowboy named Avery who doesn't like grits and beans, is allergic to horses and gets rope burn?

When an unexpected visitor arrives at camp, Avery uses the most important cowboy skill of all and proves he's an honest-to-goodness cowboy.

Tammi Sauer pens a clever cowboy story that will leave kids laughing out loud and begging to attend Cowboy Camp this summer. Mike Reed's illustrations are incredible--a perfect fit for this rootin' tootin' cowboy adventure.

Look for this one to win some awards. VERY highly recommended!

Not being a person living in the equine industry, I wasn't sure I would be able to relate to this book, but the cover was a tremendous lure. Once I began, Ms. Guidry painted a picture so realistic the only thing I was missing was the popcorn and soda! I found myself ANGRY at a fate that would do such things to a gentle soul and in tears because I couldn't do anything but empathize his pain, both physical and emotional.

This story was a rollercoaster of the best kind, just when I was crying and fearing the worst, Ms. Guidry lightened the load with calm, beautiful mental visuals of scenery, laughter and hope that Ben will survive the fire and ashes and rise like the Phoenix he truly is!

When I finished this adventure, I was exhausted and ready for Part II. To me this was not a book, it was a movie. I could hear the clock ticking in his livingroom and the leather saddle moving on the horses back while being ridden by Ben. Thanks to Ms. Guidry's ability to create a mental full-color movie, I have greater understanding of where and how people such as Ben and Scott live....and if there is a "Ben" out there, I have the feeling there are even more ladies in this country ready to help (including me)!!! Thank you for a reading experience that makes me want to move west and buy a ranch! I will impatiently await Part II. Pam Wilcox

I absolutely LOVED this book. I couldn't put it down once the main characters were introduced (which just happens to be right away!)!!!! I found myself cheering Ben on during all of this trials and tribulations....it all seemed so real, as if I were with him in the horse barns and on the track. I am waiting for him to come knocking on this woman's door (I secretly think I fell for Ben!!). Can't wait for the next book....hopefully it will continue the wonderful story line JoAnn Guidry captures in this awesome book!!! A MUST READ FOR ALL TYPES.

If you love cowboys and horses, "COWBOY HEART" is a must read. Ben Matthews, a true cowboy hero, most definitely captured my heart. The journey Ben makes from physically broken cowboy to grief stricken cowboy to "comeback" cowboy is an extraordinary ride.

Even if it didn't have the word "cowboy" in the title, the cover of this book alone would have caught my eye at the bookstore. The lone cowboy riding away into the fog, sunrise just peeking over the tree line, lends a mysterious aura and made me want to see what this book was all about.

Author JoAnn Guidry doesn't waste any time jumping into the action. Within the first three pages we meet main character Ben Matthews doing what he does best - rodeo - and then discover the devastating news that suddenly rips Ben's entire world and heart wide open. A year earlier he survived near-death at the horns of a rogue bucking bull and still managed to make a near-miraculous comeback to the sport of rodeo he lives for, but when it comes to matters of the heart, he only knows one survival tactic: run. And run he does.

Leaving behind his best friend, Scott, and Lisa, the only woman he has ever honestly loved, Ben flees Texas and the memories there, both good and bad. His first stop is a friend's ranch in Wyoming and while that occupies his mind briefly, it doesn't hold the cure. When he returns to Texas unannounced he realizes that the emotional wall he has built opened an unexpected door for Scott and Lisa to discover feelings for each other. Obviously, this is not something Ben's battered heart can handle at the moment, maybe never. Hooking up with an acquaintance who sells pony horses, Ben travels to south Florida's race tracks. Although he initially was just along for the ride, once in Florida he is drawn to the fascinating world of racing and decides to stay. Ben's affinity for horses soon finds him with a training job and his own stable of horses. But some of the local players don't take kindly to the cowboy's success and circumstances take a dangerous turn. Ben's state of mind and ravaged heart make him both a target and someone to be reckoned with.

The author has created main characters we care about, good guys we admire and cheer on, and bad guys we despise. It's also apparent that Guidry knows her subjects, both rodeo cowboys and the behind-the-scenes world of Thoroughbred racing. This knowledge is delivered quite matter of factly and never in a "preachy" way, so that readers will close the book feeling as though they have learned something, as well as experienced a good story.

Hoss reminds me of the crazy cowboys I dealt with in the mid-60s working out of White Deer, Texas. I strapped Old Billy B. on many snot slinging cowboy killing mad North Texas bulls. Dan Burton is a world-class story teller of the first order. The pranks and antics that he tells about brought long ago not forgotten memories. I really think both books I & II are first class. I have recommended them to all of my remaining friends. Thank You Dan Burton, you have given me lots of laughs and pleasure.

This story was expecially fun for me to read because this woman lived in a time and near a place of my own grandmother. She took hold of her life after the death of her husband and shared wonderful adventures with her children each summer in the waters and byways of the Canadian BC inland waterways. She did this in an era where her family said she should sell everything and "move home where it was safer" A real joy to read. This book was highly recommended to me by a friend who has cruised the Inside Passage and explored the islets of British Columbia and Alaska for the past 15 years. Many beautiful places are vividly described by Ms.'Capi' Blanchet. The lasting impression is the feeling of having spent time as a companion to the author and her children as they experience the adventure of travel and exploration as they cruise far from home in their small boat, in the 1930's. I enjoyed meeting unique people like 'Mike' - the knowledgeable recluse who expresses much of what must be the authors own philosopy of life. Altogether this little book is a bit of history, a bit of philosophy, and a bit of adventure. I didn't want it to end.

I read M. Wylie Blanchet's book,THE CURVE OF TIME, for the first time last summer and decided to re-read it again this year, as it was so utterly delightful. Ms. Blanchet's love of nature, the ocean, her wonderful children and people--from the hermits who lived in splendid isolation on the BC Coast in the '30's and '40's to the Coast Indians, who left lonely villages behind--is one of the best books ever. This collection of essays, in no particular chronological order, left me amazed at this remarkably self-assured widow who made sure her children learned about people, literature and the beautiful world that surrounded them in British Columbia. It was easy to imagine my own children in that environment and I could almost see my children swimming with hers in those great sun-warmed coves in BC. The book ended with the "sense of place" they all felt upon returning to their "Little House" on Vancouver Island, surrounded by sea and forest. I wish I could somehow learn more about their lives. Thank you, Timothy Egan for making sure we all knew about this obscure author.

My wife and I recently went on a three day cruise from Long Beach to Ensanada. Our first port of call was the quaint town of Avalon on Catalina Island. While strolling down the shops on the beach we came across a book store where the author, Bud Maxwell, was doing a book signing. He told us that he lives full time on the island where he plays golf daily and continues to write. After talking with Mr. Maxwell for a few minutes we bought his book. We both finished reading this great western story before the end of our cruise, thoroughly enjoying every page. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves reading about the old West.

I am one of the production crew for the Hallmark channel. We finished filming "Halloween Romance" in April on Catalina Island, where I had the pleasure to meet this author, Bud Maxwell. While working as an extra on the set, Bud told me about his newly released western novel, "Cutter Hagen, U.S. Marshal", and I aksed him for a copy. I just finished reading this extrodinary book and felt compelled to post my review. The public hasn't had a great western movice since "Tombstone" and maybe "Wyatt Earp" and I am going to predict that this book will end up being the next blockbuster hit! Our Hallmark director, Armand Mastroianni, also asked for a copy to read, after hearing about the storyline from Bud, thinking it may make a good T.V. mini-series. My opinion of this book is that it's of "Lonesome Dove" quality. Nothing else needs to be said.

I was amazed how the author combined real life, well known characters such as Wyatt Earp and Ike Clanton and combined their interaction with his fictional characters like Cutter Hagen. His style of writing results in a complex story line that reads very easily. I found myself relating to several of these interesting characters. A writing job well done. I am purchasing several copies which I will use as Christmas presents.

After reading this great piece of work, I must say it would make a terrific movie. We haven't had much in the way of good westerns since Tombstone and Wyatt Earp, and this would be the best choice. This book involves an intricate story, but the author makes it an easy read. Suspense, crime, cattle thieves and wild rodeo action all contribute to this very well written novel. I highly recommed this to anyone who enjoys reading about the old west.

There are 50 chapters, each about underdogs and how they triumphed. The chapters are in "ranking order," meaning the author assigned ranks to each based on a poll of sportswriters. I thought this was an interesting approach. The stories are very well written and are accompanied by fabulous photos, some of the best I've seen. I especially like the DVD. Jim Lampley is the show host and he offers a lot of insight into the games, since he was at many of them, as he relates in the program. It is a very long and huge book that will take lots of time to read. Browsing, though is fun too, since there's a variety of side information that supplements the text. I liked the whole concept a lot and plan to give the book as Christmas gifts, which should be well received, since it's not just a good book, the DVD is really wonderful, very inspirational.

As usual, for the horses...but the rest is great too.

With Funny Cide and Seabiscuit in it...you think I would miss this? The whole book is terrific, especially as a gift for the guy you can never get off the couch in front of the TV, yelling his head off for whatever: baseball teams, football teams, boxers, the Olympics, horseraces, Wimbledon. Plus there's a bonus. A DVD. How could you go wrong?

Sports-a superb book that will capture the heart of everyone who loves the underdog and the dark horse

This beautifully illustrated and oversized book depicts the 50 greatest sports upsets of all time (and includes a DVD documentary narrated by award-winning sportscaster Jim Lampley). These tales are the stuff of sports legend. This inspiring book is a celebration of the indomitable human (and on occasion animal) spirit manifested in the drama of sports competition.

I especially love the quote from Cassius Clay (who later took the name Muhammad Ali): `It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes deep conviction, things begin to happen.' He used to shout, `I'm the greatest! I'm the king!' As everyone knows, that's just what happened.

You will love this book for its splendid stories told so well, wonderful insights into the events, and the exceptionally fine accompanying photographs.

I love a good romp in the wild west. The setting in the 1800's along with a wonder plot filled with interesting characters and loves stuggles. Distant thunder is a remarkable story as tender as it is tough. Distant thunder paints a beautiful landscape literally as always Peggy J. Herring has created a wonderful story of adventure and love.

This book was so well written, it touched off feelings in me that I had forgotten I had. I felt like I knew the characters personally. I wanted to scream at them, slap them, hug them, and laugh with them. It was a tastefully sensual book that awakened all of my emotions. I could have read on and on, if the book hadn't ended.

Well done, Ms. Herring. Even though it was your first Western, you wrote it like you have been writing Westerns all of your life. It was so realistic, I felt the dust on my face and the gun in my hand.

I anxiously await your upcoming novels.

Fresh and fun is how I'd describe this "western" tale of lesbian action, lust and love. I think Herring hit on a winning combination!

I enjoy Peggy Herring's writing. I think this is her first western and it was very good. I was heart broke about Cordy and Leo, but the plot thickens and all the pieces fell into place. What happens with Cordy and Jake's daughter???? It's about family, understanding, teamwork and love.
