As a matter of fact, I have read many books about Designer/2000 and I have never found a book as this, it made me to make money teaching step by step the whole Oracle Designer workshop included.

Excellent Book for starters

The book is excellent. I went through the brief tutorial and it tells you the step by step procedure to do all things. The only drwaback is that the version of designer that I work in and that in the book are different so it is difficult when you come to final part to create database etc. The authors need to write a new book. Otherwise an excellent book.I definately recommend this one for new users.

A very good book.

I highly recommend this book for the beginers of the Designer/2000.

This book helps you easy and quick to design a system from analysis, data and application design to generate forms and reports.

Good for providing a sense of how the tool flows

I use this book in training classes and for people trying to "pick up" Designer on their own. It's most valuable assets are a quick, down-to-earth language style and a tutorial that gives new users a quick sense of the what happens to all the information they're entering into the tool through the generation of Forms and Reports.

In general, a good, basic place to start - especially since other books are really aimed at more advanced users - or at the functional side of CASE development.

Good book!

Mr. Billings,

I have not had a book like this that I had difficulty putting down in years. In addition to everything else, you are quite the writer. I think this should be required reading by all medical students and psychiatry residents. I plan to purchase a few and assign it as reading for anyone I supervise. I have to keep the one you sent me to myself as it means so much to me. Hope things are going ok for you. Didn't you tell me you are in the process of a second book, and if so, will that be a continuation or on a different topic. I can think of several people involved in the treatment and assessment of veterans and a few politicians I may send a copy. I also plan to make it one of my primary gifts throughout the year for special occasions, because I think it is a great read in addition to the insight into the realities of war and the effect on the people involved. You are truly a great man. Lanette

Dear Al:

Morris and I want you to know how much we have enjoyed your book. Your keen ability to take the reader right into whatever action or feeling you're experiencing speaks volumes about your talent. I could literally feel the story you were talking about. I realized the first night I started the book that I could not keep from constantly clenching and unclenching my toes. Morris felt the same way - our daughter who is 31 experienced the exact same thing so your reach is for these younger ones who have such an interest in this war. She read all night the first night - could not stop herself. Thank you for the hours and hours of work that went into this book. Please write another - about any subject! You have captured the Pendleton audience. We have great appreciation for some of the pain that must have come to you in this process. You are a true gentleman and officer.

This book, in my view, is a one-of-a-kind! This author has served his country to the utmost, and then some. He was an outstanding pilot that went where his beliefs took him; being it doing the honorable thing by rescuing servicemen in need, or fighting the politics because of what he did.
This is such a great book! Not only for the "war stories-which are NOT war stories", but for the way he stands his ground ; not only for himself, but especially for his fellow military servicemen.

A Navy Maverick With True Grit!
Seldom do I ever read a military aviation book where I come away thinking that I would have really loved to have flown with the author of that memoir. Author Al Billings is a veteran's veteran! He is a man among men. It was men like Al that made flying in Hueys the heroic aviation adventure it was. His book "Seawolf 28" explodes with energy and action and much more. His personality certainly comes shinning through and shows him for whom he was.
Billings was awarded over 40 medals and citations including the Silver Star and The Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the Navy's most decorated helicopter attack squadron in the Vietnam War. I have met several members of the Seawolfs when filming the documentary film "In the Shadow of the Blade." You could not find any better group of honorable men for sure. It is not surprising to read how well they did in combat. This book not only honors the role of the author but also adds to the almost myth like tales of those fine young men.
The book is well written and is a great read. I admit that the last chapters in the book were not the way I would have liked to see it end for the author, but Billings is true to himself all the way to the end and shows a lot of class. When you finish reading his book you will be left with many emotions about the war, the men, leadership in the military and what it means to stand up and be counted when someone has to be accountable and honest. Al Billings is a true leader in the real sense. I think most veterans will agree that he would be the guy that you would like to have had in the pilot's seat on your flight!
This is a must read book and receives the MWSA's HIGHEST RATING - FIVE STARS!

Amusing if only for the poor spelling and grammatical errors.

The Seawolves have a great story that needs to be told. Unfortunately, this is a poorly written, poorly edited book that does a great disservice to men who made that story great. If you can endure the abundant spelling and grammatical errors, you are certain to be turned of by what boils down to be one long, pointless and self promoting sea story. One look at the picture on the back cover told me all I needed to know: cheesy mustache, choker whites unbuttoned down to his chest hair, awkwardly posing on a wicker chair with a San Miguel in his hand. The entire book is an embarrassment to Navy Pilots.

In this book, the author magically simplifies the art of marketing so that even a novice in the marketing area can grasp complex marketing concepts and put them into action. He reviews all facets of the business in a straightforward, no holds-barred manner. The booklet covers all aspects of the business--the good and the bad; what to do and what not to do; companion areas of the business; followed by detailed scenarios to acomplish the final result. "Success in Marketing and Consulting," is an inspirational and positive "how to" guide.

I found this book to be quite informative and helpful to me. As an addition to previous books I have purchased from Mr. Coslick, this was very helpful in preparing me for a meeting with potential clients. The book gives a sample of how an interview should go and and possible questions that could be asked along with the possible answers you could provide. As a novice entering the business this information was very helpful to me, it gave me confidence and prepared me for interview questions that I would not have thought of or been prepared for.
I recommend this book as an addition to your library of books by Mr. Coslick about setting up you medical billing business.

Not for the beginner

Review Date: 2001-11-22
I felt this book was not meant for a beginner who is looking into starting out in a medical insurance billing career. It did not contain enough information on how to get started and was too far indepth for one just starting out. It was very vaugh in telling you how to set up a home-based business and had too many questions for you to ask a client. It should have told more about how to set up a business and what type of softwear one should obtain to get started. I feel this title is for a person who is already seasoned and knows what to do. For instance it is for a person who has worked as a biller prior to setting up their own home based business. It did not tell where to actually begin and what was needed to start a business as far as machines to buy and forms to use. I disliked the book because it did not give me enough information on setting up a business as a beginner.

The definitive academic work on the billable hour
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-12
Professor William R. Ross is a leading scholar on the ethics of attorney billing, and this is the definitive academic work on the subject. Professor Ross takes on a subject that, he acknowledges, was "taboo" until not so long ago -- the highly questionable ethics of the billing practices that now dominate the practice of law. Written in 1996, the book remains as relevant today as when it came out -- sadly, its message has not dated.

This is a comprehensive work, with citations to numerous sources, both academic and from the "real world" of the practice of law. Professor Ross also draws on surveys he has carried out in which lawyers answer pointed questions about actual billing practices. The results of his most recent survey -- published in 2007 -- post-date the book, but can be found on his Web site (www.williamgeorgeross.com).

"The Honest Hour" is an excellent work for a law school class on ethics and professional responsibility. But I also strongly recommend it for practicing lawyers -- especially those who mentor others on billing practices or who are influential in law practice management.

As with all books on the subject, the problem is that the lawyers who need it most are probably those who are least likely to read it. But the more who do read it, and who encourage others to do the same, the better the profession will be.

The title of the book -- "The Honest Hour" -- shows that the underlying message of the book is a positive one, namely that there is a better way.

Review Date: 2001-11-17
This book has the look, feel, and tone of an extended law review article. The author is a professor at a law school in Alabama with numerous law review articles to his credit, so the tone is not surprising.

Before he entered academe, however, the author spent nine years practicing law in New York City and is clearly wise to the ways of the big firm world periodically lampooned in places like _The American Lawyer_.

This book is largely descriptive and not prescriptive, and at times has an ingenuously horrified tone at the sharp billing practices chronicled through the use of an impressive variety of resources. Nonetheless, most professionals who log their time and use it for billing will find something to make them squirm.

Unfortunately the conclusions were only three pages of a 264-page book, and a number of other conclusions were scattered throughout the preceding chapters. More unified conclusions would have been helpful.

Worth struggling through if you want to take a cold hard look at how you do your timesheets.

I didn't notice that this book was published in 1994 when I bought it. When it arrived, I obviously figured this out. The book itself looks like it will be helpful, because even though it is old, most of the information is still pertinent. The disk, however, is a different story. It is a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk and most of the information on it is not compatible with today's computers. When I saw the program that I was able to pull up, I felt like I had been warped back in time. Bottom line: If you can get a good used price on the book itself, its probably worth it. But don't plan on the disc being of much use.

Take it from someone who has passed the board. You only need two books Lippincott & Kaplan. I'm selling both mine. Whatever you score in the practice tests will be almost equal to what you will get on the board. Good for sizing yourself up before taking the board. I cut off at 75Q. Take my advice if you are running out of time. Study concurrently x 5hrs QD x 8 weeks. Mosby & Davis are good while your in school, but not for the exam.

This book was a bit slow for me, but I think it is just because I read it right after reading 19 minutes by Jodi Picoult. Can't compare the two books. The characters are likeable, and very believeable. Keeps your attention. I could relate to Leah more then to Andrea. I hope I never have to relate to Andrea. Found out that it is hard to be patient while others greif can last months to years.

Til Death Do Us Part

Review Date: 2005-04-17
The day you get married is undoubtedly one of the happiest days of your life. You and your spouse have dreams of a life full of happiness, children, travel and growing old together. But what happens when an unsuspected tragedy occurs that puts an end to all of your hopes and dreams?

Andrea Hamilton is a very happy, thirty-five year old married mother of one. She is living the American dream, she has the house, the husband, a job as a dental technician and a beautiful precocious five year old daughter named Kayla. She also has loving parents and a twin sister, who is also her best friend. She is active in her church and has a hoard of loving friends. When someone needs to be encouraged or needs words of inspiration it is Andrea they go to. She has been called the rock, for she is their strength when they have none.

Tragedy strikes when Clayton, Andrea's husband of ten years is killed by a drunk driver. Andrea finds herself on the receiving end of comfort and it doesn't sit too well with her. She is accustomed to being the strong one, but with losing her husband she doubts she can be that way again. The thought of living the rest of her life without Clayton and raising their daughter alone is devastating to Andrea and she doesn't know how she is going to survive. In addition to the loss of her husband, she finds out she is pregnant with the baby her and Clayton have been trying to conceive for months. This is icing on the cake, as Andrea wants to be happy but is finding it hard in dealing with the death of her husband and the thought of raising not one, but two children alone.

Andrea's friends and family do all they can to comfort and encourage her but it appears to be done in vain, as Andrea doesn't appear to want to be helped. She finds herself distancing herself from all of those who love her and just can't bear to go on. Will Andrea continue to live a life of constant grief? Or will she open her heart and allow God in, when she previously shut Him out as well? Can this strong woman pass this test and put all her faith back in God and become the woman she once was?

A TEST OF FAITH is a heart-wrenching and touching story that is sure to get your tears flowing. Billings does an awesome job depicting a grieving widow whose faith is definitely being tested. Because I am married I could relate to Andrea in that I have two small children and I am also a source of strength for several of my friends and family. I can not imagine my life without my husband, but could visualize having the exact same feelings and emotions that Andrea had. The story is so emotional and real, that it had me wondering if I would be able to be strong if something happened to my husband or would I too, want to give up? When someone has a long term illness their passing isn't a surprise as you have time to prepare yourself, but when someone dies suddenly it is devastating to all those who knew the person and the pain is a little harder to bear. When you have a strong connection to the characters in a book and the storyline, you know the book is a winner, and A TEST OF FAITH is no exception.

Family Relationship Novel

Review Date: 2006-05-10
It is obvious that Ms. Billings' passion is for the family union and loyal friendship. Applause to her poignant story of the Brickman family, their struggles that filter from one generation to another, and their determination to overcome misgivings and misunderstandings from previous and present mistakes -- true-to-life issues so often many of us take for granted, but need to examine within ourselves and those we love. The reader is drawn right into the family, laughing at their shannigans, annoyed with some of their decisions or rooting them on. The Brickmans are certainly people we can relate within our own household or people we know. Most importantly spiritual enlightenment played an important role in their lives no matter how hard they tried to handle matters on their own. Definitely an inspirational read.

Billing was an author who was always said to be promising in New Zealand circles. He became somewhat distracted by other issues after the promise of such earlier titles as Forbush and the Penguins. This may have the doubtful honour of one of the few Antarctic novels. In The Chambered Natilus Billing demonstrates a new maturity and confidence as a writer. Like the eponymous shell the story is in parts with each contributing. Over the whole novel there is a salt smell as if the animal has contributed more than the protective cover and the description of small boat sailing is almost reminiscent of writes such as CS Forester but with a realism that transcens such populist list fodder. His treatment of an interracial marriage is sensitive but does occasionaly err into the noble savage stereotype. Although out of print this should be reprinted.

OK, first I'll admit that I haven't looked at this book since about 1955 but dang if I don't remember the title and the fact that, even at six years old, it was a resonating book of post-war railroading.

My four-star rating is probably because I simply remember the title and it's here on Amazon even though I can't really remember just how good it actually is. Maybe it's really a 5. Or not.

But so what. If I can remember a book title from over fifty years ago, it must be memorable.
