From the back...
Her name wasn't really Alice. And she couldn't tell Cameron Gallagher the real reason why she and her daughter had come to his isolated ranch. Nor could she reveal that his probing midnight gaze made her tremble...with desire.
Cameron had no use for beautiful women, or for liars. Yet his new housekeeper was both-and still he wanted her. He would be a fool to let Alice stay under his roof one minute longer. But then, bounty hunters never ran from trouble...they chased it.
In my Opinion...
When 'Alice' showed up on his doorstep to apply for the job as his housekeeper Cameron knew he shouldn't hire her. He could tell by looking at her that she wasn't right for the job and that she was trouble. However, when Cameron saw Alice's little girl Rebecca his heart melted. When the innocent little girl asked if they would be living with him instead of sleeping in the car, well, Cameron knew he couldn't turn them away. He hired Alice, but was afraid of the feelings that she stirred in him. She turns his house into a home and he is now eating great meals. He is also fallling in love with her daughter. Alice believes that Cameron's ranch is the perfect place to hide out from her in-laws. After Alice's husband died she thought she was forming a bond with her in-laws, until she discovered that what they really wanted was custody of Rebecca. She fled with her daughter and is hiding out until she figures out what to do. Alice loves working with Cameron, but she is scared of the feelings that she has for him. She is also worried about the bond that is developing between Cameron and her daughter. She knows that she has no future with Cameron and that she will eventually have to leave him, but she never realized how hard that would be. By the time Alice realizes her feelings for Cameron she knows that she must tell him the truth. The truth could either bring them closer together or farther apart. Cameron used to be a bounty hunter and he believes in truth and justice. So, how is he going to feel when Alice tells him that she has been lying to him from the beginning. This is a good romantic suspense story. I also enjoyed the fact that Rebecca was a very important character in the story. It was also nice to see that Alice as a strong female who faced down her problems in the end without the help of a man. She had the courage to fix her problems on her own. Again, it was a good book and I am now interested in reading about the other characters in the series.

It is a small book, 70 letter-size pages bound portfolio style. A bit less than half the pages are Evelyn's photographs and more than three-fourths of the text quotes from her diary.
There are a lot of minutiae here. Evelyn comments on the condition of the roads, the conveyances used, and daily activities. Occasionally she notes what they ate and what they paid for it. She talks about her camera equipment and frets over a lens that is slow to arrive. Evelyn describes hiking to the top of a butte to photograph an eagle nest and checking a lake to get photos of swans. This was in country that had emerged from the frontier days of cattlemen running huge herds on open range only a decade previously. This little volume is great reading from historical and human interest perspectives. Foremost, it is about Evelyn's photography.
Evelyn's photographic work is some of the finest a person will find from that time. The reproductions in this book are beautifully done. The author pays due recognition to the work of Donna Lucey - we are all in her debt for discovering Evelyn's work and publishing "Photographing Montana, 1894-1928." This collection by Henry Armstrong brings forth writings and photographs not previously published. Further, it addresses a time when the Camerons were in an area over two hundred miles from the Cameron ranches near Terry, Montana. Although born in England, Evelyn didn't travel much after starting her photography.
It seems that every bit of Evelyn's work that comes into my hands leaves me ever hungry for more.
