This book is a good overview for non-webmasters who are faced with having to design a website. Although it was created specifically with online exhibits in mind, it includes some good foundation about design itself.

This book presents the linear development of the museum from the 17th century to contemporary time period. It gives descriptive examples of museum and their involvement with political, social, and economical issues of the specific time period. It focuses solely on the development of the museum in European and North American culture, it could be improved with some context from other countries. Overall a clear and manageable.

Educational Role of the Museum, is a book filled with articles about museums theory. Each article is written by a different person and this variety of perspective is nice to have in one volume. Generally a good book, dry at times, but that is to be expected. I anticipate using this book for years to come, especially when I need to refresh myself on certain museum related topics.

This comedic story follows Fluffy, the class guinea pig, who is a stowaway on a field trip to the dinosaur museum. Fluffy creates a bizarre and humorous theory about how T-Rex evolved to eventually look just like a guinea pig. Most of the humor is derived from Fluffy's unique attitude. Fluffy has an ego!

I used this book as one of my sources for my bachelor's thesis. The plates are simply spectacular and the text covers several topics within equestrian art. I recommend this book to any dressage enthusiast. In addition to a review of many integral Renaissance issues and the birth of dressage, she also addresses the extremely rarefied equestrian ballet, integral to the context of equestrian monuments but nearly forgotten. That said, I did not agree with many of her statements, although the author's scholarship cannot be faulted. Her research was extensive, covering a subject which has been very much ignored since the advent of automobiles. My only complaints fall under the category of connoisseurship, in that she appears to be a scholar rather than a rider. For example, she claims that when the horse's neck is bent at the poll it inhibits the horse's movement. Quite to the contrary, this flexion is the most desirable and efficient posture a horse can adopt. (Please refer to any of the recent studies on the biomechanics of self-carriage.) Obviously, Camins read an article detailing the hazards of the horse being hyper flexed and behind the bit, but did not make the distinction between that bend necessary for efficiency, and the degree of bend that limits flexion and responsiveness. I feel that this is a grievous error, and is only one of many. I prefer Liedtke's "Royal Horse and Rider," although Camins' plates are far superior. Liedtke does not address the ballet in any depth, so for the true enthusiast Camins' book is irreplaceable.

Steam Engines and Industrial Development

This book is? 1) Long 2) Thorough 3) Clearly Written 4) All of the above. Answer - 4 This book will teach you more than you ever wanted to know about stationary steam engines (i.e. not locomotive engines or steamboat engines) and their development in the 19th Century. It includes very clear descriptions about how high and low pressure engines work, about compounding, and about variable cut-offs. Although the book does not include locomotives, I wish I had read this before I started to read about railroad engines. The latter would have made a lot more sense. The only complaint I have with the book is that there are numerous redundancies from chapter to chapter. It reads as if the author wrote individual chapters independently, but the duplications weren't edited out at the end.

Iron at Winterthur is an excellent sourcebook for anyone studying 18th century ironware, with excellent photographs and good, although brief, texts on the pieces. It is a catalog of the collection at Winterthur rather than a text.
My main interests are in wrought iron hardware; for anyone interested in that subject, a better book is Jim Plummer's book on the Jim Sorber collection.
In general, however, this is an excellent source.

Wonderfully developed piece of art! This book describes not only many major pieces in the museum but also gives an extensive history of the museum itself. Many great photographs of beautiful, historic holdings of the museum. This book brings back fond memories of walking through the halls of the Louvre! The major drawback to the book is its weight, but the Louvre does contain a large portion of the history of European art. Great with its companion book. RG

The authors go into great detail discussing museum personnel, museum operations, and the financial realities of museum management. The extensive discussions and actual case studies that have been contributed by various professionals from museums, demonstrate the implementation of the management techniques discussed in the book.Throughout the book the authors explain their criteria for effective museum management by asking a series of questions that allow for reflection on current management practices. The book was created as the guide book for a certificate class in museum management.
