Terrific photographs. Ample coverage of the usual monuments and tourist must-stops. Refreshing attention is also paid to DC neighborhoods that make the city a great place to live as well as visit.

Outposts And Bushplanes is a celebration of the northern British Columbia wilderness, and the rugged people who called the frontier home. Written in simple, down-to-earth prose, Outposts and Bushplanes follows the flights and memories of former bush pilot and veteran outdoorsman Bruce Lamb, preserving the memorable quirks and hardy endurance of the land's settlers during the latter half of the twentieth century. Black-and-white photographs illustrate this sometimes thrilling, sometimes poignant memoir, sure to appeal especially to armchair travelers.

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with "Overcoming Heterosexism and Homophobia: Strategies that Work." Given its title (which to be honest does not exactly inspire confidence as to its "readability") and its size (448 pages of really fine print. Whoa!), I was really expecting yet another dry, boring, overly academic text that I was going to have to struggle through, not just to understand but to stay awake as well. But yet, as soon as I started reading it, I was caught off guard by two things: One, I was actually able to read the essays straight through and understand them the first time I read them (as opposed to having to read the same paragraph three or four or more times because the language is so dense and cumbersome as to be incomprehensible); and two, I found myself wanting to read more of the book. I felt the book did a great job of not only incorporating a great deal of information in a fresh, easy-to-understand manner, it also managed to be comprehensive without necessarily becoming overwhelming. "Overcoming" was that rare book that actually got me from the first chapter and kept me reading. Furthermore, it has been a long time since I got this excited reading a book, i.e. it was really enjoyable to read, and incredibly informative! "Overcoming Heterosexism and Homophobia: Strategies that Work" is definitely an invaluable resource for anyone interested in LGBT issues, and particularly for those individuals or organizations looking for ways to develop and implement programs that specifically address issues pertaining to homophobia and/or heterosexism.

We live near Tacoma and have a motorhome that doesn't fit in many of the state and federal campgrounds in the Northwest. This newest Church book is very good at helping to find the right places for our rig. In a month, using their advice, we found three wonderful RV campgrounds that we didn't know about. One is next to a first class trout river and another is at an entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. Maybe the best part is that this book is helping us re-discover where we can go without using a lot of fuel! This is a great book for those that have never been to the Northwest as well as those that live there. Buy it! You'll like it!

I have traveled extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest and much of the U.S. This year travel will be limited to the Pacific Northwest. As a "native" Washingtonian and lifelong camper I've been looking for a new guidebook that combines travel info with the latest on campgrounds. There are new parks and new travel ideas - enough to generate enthusiasm and travel plans! Each listing has large icon keys that make it easy to find suitable camping spots, ie 50 amps, big rigs, activities and more. The book covers Washington, Oregon and British Columbia with everything from weekend to multi-week trip planning possibilities. Thank you to the authors for a great guidebook.

I have used this guide since published and it is an accurate overview of the many paddling opportunities in the Inland Northwest - Eastern Washington, North Idaho, Western Montana and even Canada. I had already tried many of the lakes and rivers but more were identified including some that I had never even considered in my 25 years in Spokane. Most of the paddles are appropriate for families. Put-ins and take-outs are well described. Great value that will save you time and money - even for the experienced paddler.

Deibert has written a book that gives an awesome portrayal of the way in which information technologies interact with society and political forces. I would say that after having read this book I now have a much better grasp of a truly sophisticated understanding of the causal relationship between society and communications. This is a great contribution to medium theory.

I was resently deployed to Iraq and read this book about a half dozen times and each time it reminded me of home. I grew up hearing these stories from both my granfather and my great uncle, L.H. Adams. But each time I read the book I learn alittle more about them and their days growing up. I can't recomend a better book than this one.

this book isn't normally something I would pick out for myself, my grandfather gave it to me. after reading it though, I understood a bit more about my grandfather as well as being a southerner. as young native of a big southern city, I gained a new respect for life in a small town, although I still love the conveniences of city life. you can tell that the author very fondly remembers those years and that town. almost makes me hope that I will remember atlanta as fondly someday.

This book covers just about everything you need to know to get started with framing. From the basics to more in depth details. It hits things from frame shapes to conservation to paper to hanging basic items in the frame. There is even a decent section on how to store art and work items. I purchased this and the collectibles volume (#7) and decided to purchase others in the set. I am a medium ability frame maker so I did know some of the information, but enjoyed the review and found new items to learn.

I've got to say when I was looking for a book to help me harvest plants and such for basketry making I would have never come across this book if it wasn't for my sister-in-Law. She told me that she had this great book about plants, history, etc. of the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Canada that might be helpful. I bought it hoping it might help. Well I've got the book and its perfect! The author did a wonderful job in discription of the plants, and their uses and she went on to other things that are very useful in basketry! I would recomend this book for anyone wanting to harvest plants for basketry. I would also recomend that the sellers of this book make it more available for those into basketry, not only because of the plants, but also the history of basketry!

Nancy Turner's book on plant uses by the First Peoples of British Columbia is a treasure house of ancient knowledge: how the plants of the Pacific Northwest were used by the original inhabitants. In an aboriginal technology, plants were used in almost every aspect of life: housing, clothing, transportation, weapons, fishing lines, basketry--all depended on skillful manipulation of plant materials. Organized by plant group, each plant's uses are discussed. The book will appeal to craft workers as much as anthropologists and other students of native woods lore because the methods of preparation are included.

I fell in love with wild plants at the tender age of 11 when I went to camp with my 5th grade class. We did plant identification and I became intrigued by all the wonderful plants in the NW. WHen I got home I poured through my mom's copy of this book. I had been seeing it on our coffee table since I was like a tot! I fell in love with plants. This book has beautiful color pics of all kinds of wonderful plants and animals. It's awesome!

This is the best PNW plant and animal identification book on the market (and I have lot of such i.d. books). Lots of really good color pictures and detailed b/w's. Informative text on life history/cycles. Good index and well-organized. Great for helping children get going on school projects (the Latin names are there, but the text is plain English, flows well, and provides information that interests ordinary persons of all ages who enjoy the out-of-doors). Would make a nice gift for someone new to the area or otherwise interested in the topic.
