Salberg and Maron have performed an important public service.

The leading authority on the disease has joined forces with our best patient advocate. The result is a book both authoritative and readable.

An invaluable resource to anyone who needs information on this disease.

These guys are my heroes.

A *MUST READ* for friends and family of a HOCM patient

If you or someone you love suffers from this disease, then this book is a must read. It completely explains the condition in a way that is easy to understand. It also covers the various ways currently used to identify and treat the symptoms. This book was co-authored by the leading cardiologist in the field and the president of the HCMA support group [....]Additionally, I would recommend contacting the HCMA for more information and support. They can put you in touch with a specialist in your area who can better help you treat this disease.

My wife was diagnosed with this condition in April 2002 by a local cardiologist who did not know much about HCM and should have diagnosed it in January with the first test. After joining the HCMA and receiving this book, we knew more than our local doctor. The HCMA hooked us up with a Specialist at the Cleveland Clinic and where we are currently getting treatment. As a matter of fact, Dr. Lever at the Cleveland Clinic even recommended this book for us to read! He was very pleased that we had already done that!

Sovereignty and Native Women

This is one of the few books I've found that really explores the issues of sovereignty and native women together. Maracle really explains the connection between women's integrity and wholeness and tribal self-determination. She also looks at issues of domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault from a uniquely native perspective. I would recommend this book to all women of native descent.

A must read for all!

I read and re-read this book while in university studying native cultures throughtout Canada. I can honestly say, as a native male, that this is one of the most powerful books that I have ever read. Lee Maracle's story portrays that which everyone should know about - the struggles that native people, especially native women, have endured over the past centuries.

If I had only read one book while in university, it would have been this one.

The book will be an answer to those who are looking for some reasons why such kind of phenomenona, like pilgrimages are still observed in the modern world. Victor Turner repeatedly talks of signifiers and signified and in the book his focus is very much on Marian devotion.

Interesting and Diverse Poetry
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-17
This anthology of poetry about God, edited by Diana Culbertson, is a fascinating overview of the thoughts of poets regarding God. The editor divided the book in three parts: FROM GOD(in the first person), TO GOD(in the second person),ABOUT GOD (in the third person). As a result of this we find different works not arranged in cronological order but according to their perspective regarding God. However, on each of the three parts of the book poems begin cronologically, beginning with poems from the Bible. The variety of language, style and ideas of this anthology is pretty diverse. The reader can experience and discover the power of poetry beginning with the psalms and passing through John Donne, John Milton, Thomas Hardy, Emily Dickinson, Gerald Manley Hopkins and also contemporary writers like Kathleen Norris and Daniel Berrigan. It is good for the editor to wait until the final part of the book to give short biographies of the authors. I think this helps the reader to experience the poems by themselves without any preconceived ideas about the authors. There are also helpful footnotes on some poems in order to understand the message implied by the author. This anthology brings into perspective the different theological ideas that has formed the concept of God in Judaism, Christianity and Islam and how poets express these ideas in their own personal way. Highly recommended.

I love poetry again!

This book was given to me as a gift. What a great gift! It is a book of poems about God. I loved the book because the poems and authors of the poems are so diverse. For instance, while I expected an author such as Emily Bronte, I was quite surprised to find Jack Kerouac included. The book is grouped into three sections. My favorite section was the last because the poems are less traditional sounding. The poems are "real." There's nothing phony or falsely devout about them.

This book gave a historical reason that why Iran moved toward Constitutional Revolution in Iran. First, when Japan defeated Russia political dynamic was altered globally.

In this Revolution Azeri people and political figures like Satar Khan wanted Iran to adopt Constitution.

Also, Iranian ladies took part in this Revolution. Once, this Revolution was moving forward Iran' social, economic, and political changes was taken place.

I found this book to be highly informative. I did disagree with some of it's conclusions, but the book would be an excellant intro to Iran's constitutional movement for a casual reader and is an excellant resourse for a more serious reader.

Are Japanese Gardens in the U.S. fakes?
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-30
Kendall H. Brown begins his history of Japanese-style gardens with a quote from James Rose to the effect that Japanese gardens outside of Japan are fakes. Brown's attitude is, however, more ambiguous than ambivalent. He seldom says he doesn't like something. His liking may be found between the lines. At the end of his history, Brown concludes that Japanese-style gardens are meant for play. It is pleasant to think of people having a smiling time in Japanese-style gardens . . . the wistaria, azalea, carp and waterfalls call for that. Nevertheless, Japanese in Japan are as out of touch with their past traditions as are Americans with their's. There is pleasure in knowing the symbolic uses of gardens in Japan and in their transplanted versions in the United States. Gardens in both countries should be more creative as is the case with "California Scenario" by Isamu Noguchi, the last garden Brown describes. (It is popular with skateboarders!) "Japanese-Style Gardens of the Pacific Coast" is a splendid book and the only book extant that gives the historical background of West-Coast Japanese-style gardens. Melva Levick's photographs whet the desire to see the gardens, if for no other reason than to see which is better . . . the photographs or the gardens. A small objection: If Brown had included acreages, one might be better able to compare the problems and successes of the individual gardens.

I was a student a Berklee when this first was published.
After I had bought it, I was talking to my piano teacher. He commented that this book encapsulates everything that they were trying to teach in the piano program.
Hyperbole? Perhaps, but it's still a ringing endorsement.

A great book for the jazz starter, inter. and/or advanced!!!

This is a great book written by a great jazz player. It is easy to understand for the beginner, yet at a high enough level for the more advanced player. An excellent reference for scales, modes, or any other jazz techniques. I found that if I studied this book, it helped me out memorizing and remembering QUICKLY how to apply them to the piano. A must buy!

I read this book for an essay and I LOVED it. Johnston's use of stories beautifully revealed the spirituality of the Anishnabe-so much so that I discovered my own spirituality and place in this world by reading it. I wish to get my own copy to share with my children, which is what led me to search this website for the first time.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the sacred worldview of the Ojibway, whose simple ,honorable views of all things is quite universally held by most N.American First nations groups. This book is extremely readable and I would recommend it for all age groups!

This editions of Spanish Reader are excellent for my Spanish 4 classes and for my AP Spanish. Borges is presented in an accessible manner for the intermediate student and also challenging enough for AP students.
I am quite happy with these Spanish Reader series. I bought already the Ana Maria Matute, Miguel de Unamuno, Federico Garcia Lorca and of course the Jorge Luis Borges volume.

This is a book of Borges criticism by Jaime Alazraki. I do not know why, but I see that most copies are being sold for under $2.00. I will always prefer to re-read Borges' books a hundred times by myself before turning to a book of criticism, but I had to read this one (and others) while I was studying Literature at Buenos Aires University, and it is one of the best books on Borges writings to be found. So I'd say, go ahead, try it.
