All you need to know in one great hiking guideReview Date: 2007-08-30
The Classic book on West Coast hiking in Canada.Review Date: 1999-09-17
It is surprisingly detailed in the amount and variety of information it presents to hikers\ of of all abilities, from extremely precise hiking maps extending to information about area climate, blister first aid, hiking boots, keeping clean and basic hiking survival.
The photographs were taken by the writer and give a realistic and colorful view of the area being hiked. The sidebars are one of the highlights of the book, giving some valuable and fascinating information on things that you may see and do along your hike not normally mentionedd in a book on hiking. The topics may vary from Ice Worms to rock climbing to surfing and cycling.
The crowning highlight of the book is its feature on rarely known information concerning the world famous West Coast Trail hike, such as mandatory registration and limited allowable group size. The variety and scope of the hike is fully explored from the mafnificant coastline to the caves, lush rainforests, waterfalls and rich wildlife.
The information presented in the book is sensible, humurous and easily understood by the beginng hiker while not boring the more advanced hiker interested in specific information such as hike ratings and emergency shelter huts.
It is rare to see a hiking book that combines all of the above mentioned information written in a unique and humuorous style for the hiker interested in hiking the West Coast of Canada.

An excellent textbookReview Date: 2005-09-15
More advanced material is clearly marked in the "Advanced Study and Reference" sections found throughout the chapters. The inclusion of such material allows the book to serve as a reference for advanced students, but its clear separation in the "Advanced Study and Reference" sections means that it does not overwhelm beginners. The "Historical Note" sections, also found throughout the chapters, describe the evolution of various Japanese expressions over time. This information is not only of interest to advanced learners, but is useful for demonstrating to beginning bungo students the relationship between some classical and modern Japanese expressions. The exercises appended to each chapter provide a valuable opportunity for students to become familiar with classical expressions within a limited context, before going on to read longer texts, and the tables of grammatical forms in the accompanying booklet are extremely useful for quick reference.
All in all, a highly readable work which should be of great interest to students and scholars of classical Japanese regardless of their level of ability.

Extraordinary PhotograpyReview Date: 2005-12-01
The photographer exposes an intimate and personal view that allows us to be inside the picture, as if living it ourselves. He has entered areas and dangerous zones to show us those existing contrasts, and has exposed us to the magnificense of this varied country. It is a perfect example of being able to see through someone else's eyes, and how beautiful it is.

"The epitome of success"Review Date: 2003-06-18
This set of books is excellent. Most of the writing is examples of successful people from the past and present (1911). This type of motivational writing tends to get repetitive, however, there is a lot of advise tucked carefully between the many examples given. It was a very different world when the author wrote this book, but as I read it I noticed, the more things change, the more they stay the same. One difference I like is the chivalry and honesty exhibited from the time period. Even the highest standards of decency today are a far cry from that time. It was a lot of fun reading some of the examples from that era and knowing they were current events. These books are well worth the read, if you can find them.

Although this book was written in the early 20th century, its message is truly timeless.

I wouldn't recommend this for the beginner - they would be better served by such works as "Persian myths" by Curtis, "Persian Mythology" by Hinnells, or "Wise Lord of the sky" by Allan.
But for someone wishing to research the religion, this and R.C. Zaehner's books are truly excellent.
