Excellent OverviewReview Date: 2005-04-19
A comprehensive and useful work!Review Date: 2003-11-21
I am sure the book aids the investigator, but it helps a manager understand how secrecy has been used in the past and the present as well. A tremendous amount of research must have gone into the book to be so comprehensive. I was already familiar with S-tools and a few other picture file related techniques, but had never considered slight alterations of the space between letters and had never heard of Civil war quilts. The beginning of the book is packed with technique after technique.
The author, Greg Kipper is to be congratulated for such clear writing especially considering how complex the subject gets.
The publisher, CRC Press, went the extra mile to create a very detailed table of contents so the reader can find what they need fast.
The bottom line, this book is an excellent coverage of the subject and yet they packed it into about 200 pages so it is 100% fluff free.
One concern and one wish. The coverage of tools is a bit spotty, the links to stego tools seem to change rapidly and some of the tools do not even have a link. If you can't find a tool you might try: http://www.stegoarchive.com/ that is what I use. I hope this goes to second edition and if so, my wish is that the author will beef up the detection chapter. Greg does such a great job of showing how stego can and has been used in the real world, I would love more information about how I can protect myself and apply detective controls in my organization's network.

For managers at all levelsReview Date: 2004-01-29
A Must ReadReview Date: 2004-01-07
What first attracted me to the book is that the majority of the testimonials are from very, very accomplished authorities, people who seem to have reached really high stature as faculty at the top business school AND who have been successful authors themselves of books for managers. What then impressed me was how readable the book is. Knowing that it was written by a professor, I suspected the worst, but found that the book was actually an enjoyable read, with lots of examples, some from the author's own experience. But make no mistake, this isn't a shallow book with large print, lots of white space, three bullets per page, and unsubstantiated assertions. To the contrary, from two other testimonials: "This book stands head and shoulders above the many management books offering short-term fads, fashions, and therapies of the moment." and "THE NECESSARY NATURE OF FUTURE FIRMS is cleverly written, grounded in history, integrates an unusually extensive survey of organizational research, and is filled with evocative examples and practical guidelines." I found these comments to be on target.

Project management tools for any projectReview Date: 2007-01-09
If you or your organization works projects, regardless of size or scope, this set of 2 CD's is for you. Richard Morreale, who has an extensive history of project development and management, including such noteworthy projects as helping put a man on the moon, has much to say and much to offer. He takes the listener through a project from start to finish, providing the details necessary to properly complete it. His work is both easy to understand and follow. His considerable examples are thorough and diverse, providing everyone in project management with examples unique to their circumstances.
As one who has worked projects involving complex Six Sigma methodologies, and extensive government projects as a police chief, I wish I'd had Mr. Morreale's work before I started. It would have reduced the research time before starting, the development time, and the completion schedule. This approach would have been appropriate for preparing and writing my own book, "Leading Beyond Tradition." For anyone involved in project management I recommend this work, "Over 50 Killer Ideas for Delivering Successful Projects (Audio CD)."
Not killer ideas, but certainly project saversReview Date: 2008-04-24
In general, the ideas are in the area of common sense; the tragedy is that more managers don't have the courage or intelligence to execute them. For the most part, they are a recognition that people are not like machines with an accelerator peddle, in other words pushing harder and maintaining the fuel supply will not make them go faster. People require incentive, appreciation, a solid sense of direction, the ability to adapt within parameters and regular breaks from the grudge of routine. Morreale recognizes all of this and gives voice to the right ways that people can be managed to success.
Some of the ideas listed are:
*) Foster a team atmosphere
*) Lighten up
*) Know your outcome before you start
*) Produce a detailed requirements document
*) Identify acceptance criteria
*) Base all your plans on deliverable products
*) Set a tight but achievable schedule
*) Add value to weekly achievement meetings
*) Protect the project team from non-project distractions
The great managers recognize the necessity for planning with people in mind and clearly Morreale is a great manager. His track record of success is expressed in a set of ideas that can turn all but the worst "death march" project into a joyous triumph.

A Phenomenal "One-Stop Shop" For WellnessReview Date: 2000-08-19
Phenomenally Good Read!Review Date: 2000-07-08
Her astute insights are presented with candor and humor and include contributions from other phenomenal women and men such as Trish Falkner, the #2 ranked tennis player in the world over age 50; Stephen Halpern, the renowned composer and recording artist whose healing music was the subject of CBS' 48 Hours and a PBS series; Steve Bhaerman, the author and comedian fondly known as Swami Beyondananda; and Dorothy Engels-Gulden, President of Gulden Real Estate whose sales have topped $1 billion.
As editor Martin Ducheny states, although "Phenomenal Women" was conceived to vitalize the power of the feminine in women, it is really a book for women and men because "we are all in this together ... This book offers techniques, motivation and encouragement to constantly keep physical, emotional and spiritual batteries charged. This super-charging is a first step on the way to generating the energy of a new paradigm of power for women and a new balance of the masculine and the feminine in society."
A must-read!

Example: You mail a letter. It currently takes 37 cents in postage. Instead of using a 37 cent stamp you use stamps of the following values: 9 cents, 2 cents, 3 cents, 1 cent, 9 cents, 4 cents, 9 cents. That's the right amount of postage so the letter goes through. But the letter is meaningless. The message you sent is 9-2-3-1-9-4-9. Perhaps this means September 23, 1949, or perhaps it's comething else that the receiver understands. Or perhaps the message is in the green ink that you used to address the envelope.
When you get to computers you can be far, far more secretive. A movie or audio file can be millions of bytes long. Changing a few bits here or there would be completely undetectable but could incorporate a huge message.
This book is intended to be a guide to law enforcemtn investigators and cyber-forensics. It describes the techniques and the literally dozens of programs that exist (usually free on the web) for hiding messages and several programs for detecting these messages. This is an area that has received little attention in the past and this book does a very good job of bringing this field out into the open.
