I bought this book at the Nutcracker gift shop for my 7 year old daughter. It is a really neat book with real pictures from the ballet cast for this year. I wanted to get her this so she would have a visual memory of when we went to see the Nutcracker. Now she can open the book and remember all over again. The book has beautiful pictures of each scene from the ballet as well as a description to what is happening in each scene. I paid full price $27.95 for the book. OUCH!! But it was worth it because she can't seem to stop looking at it. If you love the Nutcracker or are going to see it I recomend this book. Buy it now on Amazon while its still cheap!

Each genus is given an introduction, indentification tips, and several recipes for the berries. There are no illustrations. There is a 14 page color plate section that provides a photo for each genus covered in the book.

Short sections at the end of the book cover possible uses for each berry, versatile recipes, a blooming and ripening calendar, and a glossary.

The Writing: The writing is competent. Personal collection notes are intermixed with information about each plant.

Opinions: This book is hard to find and expensive, but it is probably the best available source for uses of Northwest berries. It is not particularly useful as an identification guide, but if you know one berry from another, it provides recipes for jams, jellies, deserts, and other preserves that I have not found anywhere else.

Just returned from an extended camping and hiking trip in Washington and Oregon. This book was GREAT. We used it every day to find where to stay and what to expect, and to chose our evening domiciles. We found it to be totally accurate and fun to read too. Nice one. I plan to get the other Stienstra camping guides too now that I know the quality of the info.

The book is valuable and understandable. I am doing research in preparation to a move to the west coast of Oregon. Professor Komar takes a complicated issue and makes it understandable for a lay person. He is clear about what level of evidence exists for various subjects and is clear when expressing his opinion. The book very much answered just about all the questions I had.

Though some of these recipes are a little out there, most of them are simply delectable. The book provides a great feel for the flavor (pardon the pun) of the region and some wonderful recipes.

This is one of the finest art books I've ever bought, and believe me, I have a long shelf of them. The editor chose artists both famous and unknown, at least to me. Many are women! I have the book folded open on a table where I can see it as I walk by, and I change the pages every week or so. Wow! One gorgeous image after another.

This book is one of the rarest in my collection and fills in the time period between the Taft Guides (1925 & 1928) and the Ben Paris Guide (1930 to 1980). It does not follow the same format of any of the other NW fishing guides and is a real treasure for any NW collector.

Like the other Rick Harbo books on marine life, this one is filled with beautiful and informative photos of the organisms. I recommend this book highly.

Parks and Plates: The Geology of Our National Parks, Monuments and Seashores clearly and concisely describes the geological processes which formed the most spectacular, familiar and beloved landscapes in America. Balancing the fast-moving text are richly illustrated explanations of geological ideas and terminology and helpful color photographs depicting specific examples. The author identifies which parks reflect which geological forces leaving the reader with a desire to pack up and visit each park.

This is the best detailed refrence of the history of settlement in the last frontier. The architectural and cultural historical value is unprecidented. The detail oriented Jusuites have left a first rate journal. A rare find indeed.
