This book brings back many memories as Jim Walden built a program that had been the joke of almost all collegiate football and made it into what would eventually become a frequent Bowl participant and a conference championship contender. Walden was the third coach hired in the last three year, he made a promise to stay with the downtrodden program and even though he was not there when WSU made it's improbable apearance in the '97 Rose Bowl, He clearly planted to seeds that started the turnaround. Very similar to the Cindarella story of the Mariners.

Every recipe I've tried has been stellar!

I can't say enough nice things about this slim littlecookbook. First, every recipe I've tried has been stellar -- and I'veused the recipes with several dinner parties to rave reviews. Second, I appreciate the organization. Sarich classifies every recipe by seasonability of ingredents, cost of ingredients, and time needed for preparation...very helpful features that I wish more cookbooks shared. Third, I like the lay-flat spiral binding, which makes it handy to use. Fourth, the presentation and photography are beautiful. Interestingly, I've bragged up book to several out-of-town guests, and they've purchased the book (even though they don't live in the Pacific Northwest). Additionally, the indices at the back of the book include wine and food/herbs/spices pairing, wine descriptions, and useful lists of ingredients to have on hand depending on what type of cuisine you tend to cook.

Since The Joshua Line has been in circulation, I've been getting feedback by some who are intrigued by the idea implied in the story that among the human qualities necessary for the survival of our civilization is that of being able to meet violence with violence. That would seem to be the case in this story. As it turns out, the tool of choice at the beginning and at the conclusion of the novel is a rifle. One would hope that civilization would eventually get beyond that, but for now.......? Bill Morgan, Author

John Work was a chief trader for the Hudson's Bay Company and one the most active explorers of North America in his day. The Journal Of John Work is his daily account of an expedition from Vancouver to the Native American "Flatheads" and "Blackfeet" tribes of the Pacific North West from August 18, 1831 to July 27, 1832. Originally published in 1923, this primary historical source was edited by Williams S. Lewis and Paul C. Phillips, and includes the addition of the historical essays "Fur Trade in the Northwest" and "Life of Work". The Journal Of John Work also includes an appendix, original letters of John Work to Edward Ermatinger, a bibliography of the fur trade in the northwest, and an index. Presenting a seminal account of the policies of the Hudson's Bay Company, and providing readers with details of the daily routines of the fur traders of the era, this photomechanical reproduction of The Journal Of John Work is especially recommended for academic library collections and to students of 19th century American and Canadian frontier history.

Smith brings you back to the War years, and gives them life. Whether or not you were alive, you feel like you lived them. The characters are rich and well developed. I didn't want the book to end. Looking forward to the sequel.

If I were told that tomorrow I must move and I may only take six cookbooks with me, this would be one of the six! Wonderful rich flavor combinations, and interesting lists of ingredients contribute to making this one of the most original cookbooks that I have come across (and used) in years. With consideration for the many and differed roots of the original settlers of the Northwest, Judie Geise has assembled a rich tapestry of recipes that may truly start in the Northwestern USA, but are at home on the tables of all Americans. My favorites include Bayou Bisque, Shrimp Gumbo, Judie's Mediterranean Style Stew, and Chicken Hunter Style. Her Eggplant Parmesan has no rival! These and more from her book have been adopted as family basics and passed on to friends and neighbors. A really great cookbook!

This book captures the true story of a young Alaska native girl growing up in a family devoted to the old Tlingit customs but still adapting (if often reluctantly) to the ways of the whites increasingly dominating their world. More a set of stories than a single narrative, it includes retellings of several folk tales, historical details of how the Tlingit lived, and a lot of beautiful drawings I spent many childhood afternoons trying to copy.
My grandmother gave me an earlier edition of this book when I was nine, and by the time I turned thirteen I'd read it so many times it literally fell apart. I still have it and enjoy rereading it.

Thomas Lacy has done an excellent job of building a sense of place for the Priest Lake area in this book. He has done this by keeping alive the human histories of the common, unsung inhabitants of a wild and beautiful region; people whose lives and everyday living were shaped by the rugged environment. In these times of a mobile, busy society it is good to take a book like Kaniksu and look back to the days and places where human history and the natural environment moved down parallel trails.

This book is a fine study of the Katy's Northwestern District. The extensive rare photographs, many by the author, are a wonderful complement to the well organized text. The detailed coverage of the last days on the District is particularly poignant.
