I thought it was great. 1st person Prentiss N. Gray wrote daily of his trips in Canada , Alaska and the lower 48. My favorite was his British Columbia hunts/explorations between the Peace and Fraser rivers as the title of the book sugests. He took his Wife and 2 kids on hunts as well and documents thier success and failures. Well written and how it was in the 1920-1930's PHOTOGRAPHS WERE FANTASTIC and lots of them almost 1 full page original photo of Prentiss' for every 2 pages. The Scores of photos are worth many thousands of words and the book would be worth it for the photos by themselves. The wilds of B.C., Alberta, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, etc makes you want to go there

The best of the "Doctor reminisces" books.

"Frontier Doctor" edges out Arthur Hertzler's "Horse and Buggy Doctor" and "The Life of Chevalier Jackson" as the most interesting of the physician autobiographies that were so popular about 75 years ago. In the thirties, doctors who'd lived through a revolution in medical care, found that readers and publishers were interested in the doctors' personal accounts of how medical practice had changed since the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Many wrote their stories. Later a few stragglers added their accounts and still later the university presses published more. "Frontier Doctor" is the best of the genre because of Urling Coe's writing skill. He has a knack for describing people and telling about events that makes his book most readable, interesting, and memorable. It's been more than a decade since I've read the book but I still remember so many episodes vividly. The story of Bend's fishing for the 1905 Fourth of July celebration, many buggy trips to isolated patients, and those people and their medical problems make up one enthralling story about life in the (not so) good old days in Bend, Oregon a century ago.

An absolutely astounding work. Ghost Dance is so intricately detailed, yet, expertly delivered, that I suspect this writer has published many other works under a different name. It is an emotional roller coaster, nail-biting, edge of your seat dark thriller that is impossible to put down. It suggests at the end that a sequel is in the works, God I hope so.

Linzer's knowledge shows in beautiful novel
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-08
Though Linzer could have written a scathing historical commentary on the ridiculous treatment of Native Americans, she has instead chosen to write a novel about the amazing strength of three young Indian men. Their lives split between Oklahoma and Washington state reservations, these men are still able to find laughter and the sacred beauty their great-great-grandmother taught them sternly about. Unbroken spirits in broken down Chevys....read it, you'll enjoy it.

I recently traveled with Valparaiso University to Alaska to study glaciation and the glaciers of Alaska. This book was required reading prior to arriving in Alaska.

Let me tell you, this publication explains everything about glaciers from conception to melting. It also helps to have someone who is truly passionate about glaciers explain them.

I would suggest this to anyone traveling to Alaska whether amateur or experienced in glaciers. You will truly view and appreciate each glacier more after you read this publication.
