I live in Seattle, WA and this book contains tons of useful info on all the resorts within a day or two drive. I particularly like the write-up on Mt. Baker and the yearly legendary Banked Slalom Event. George Dobis, owner of Mt. Baker Snowboard Shop, is definitely a must visit if ever in the town of Glacier, WA (17 miles from the Baker ski area). Bring him some Coors beer and you will be friends for life! Great Book Jimbo and Sean!

Designed as a coloring book by renowned Oysterville author and artist Nancy Lloyd, this covers all the boats you are likely to wonder about: canoes, dugouts, Schooner, Sailing gillnetters, pleasure boats, charter boats, crabber- trollers, purse seiners, trawlers, shrimpers, oyster dredges, Coast Guard vessels, even a semaphore alphabet and of course, the Columbia River Bar Pilot Boat and tugboats. Back cover is decorated with smokestack designs of twenty famous shipping companies.

In this text, Swami Rama demonstrates his unsurpassable ability to relate the Upanishads to the modern day yogi. The Isha Upanishad is both the shortest and one of the most important scriptures, representing in its eighteen verses the sum total of yoga wisdom. This book introduces the reader to the philosphy of yoga, expands upon the main themes of the text, relates this scripture to the Mahabarata and Bhagavad Gita and provides a verse-by-verse comentary that is easy to understand. Of all of the commentaries that I have purchased on the Isha Upanishad, this is the one that I would most recommend.

If you want to learn about Bishop Peter Trimble Rowe, the indomitable Mrs. Elizabeth Molineaux, the formation of St. Peter's By-The-Sea, the early years of the Episcopal Church in Alaska (especially Sitka), and some early history of the community of Sitka, then this book is for you.

I really enjoyed reading this history. It was interesting and informative to learn about St. Peter's long, and continued, history of contributions to the community at large, to think about all those other congregations, rectors and vestries making far-reaching decisions still affecting us today. It gave me a greater sense of my place within this body of Christ, and how our lives are interwoven, creating a beautiful, vibrant tapestry in our community of St. Peter's, Sitka, and the world.

I especially enjoyed the decadal historical notes about Sitka, gleaned from the writings of eminent local historian, Bob DeArmond. It helped put the church's history in perspective.

The only reason I wouldn't recommend this book to you is if you don't like people changing into spirits and coming back and such. Otherwise, if you've seen the movie or not (I have!), this book is great. It's pictures are great (it's hard to pick a favorite!) and they accuratley capture the look of the movie. The text isn't lacking either (Lilo & Stitch's pics were good, but story adaption was bad) the story helped me remember the movie better. I think this book means more if you've seen the movie, but if you like picture books, the movie, or want to read your kids (or yourself) a good story,(and don't mind the "spirits" thing) buy this book.

I liked this book and will be using it this coming school year with my 5th grade students. It is an excellent book that focuses on self esteem, persistence, and acceptance of others with handicaps. However, it appears to be confusing for the fifth grade reading level. The advanced vocabulary and lack of flow because of the use of letters within the text makes me believe the reading level is probably at about eighth grade (12-14 years old). For younger students, it could be used with the teacher reading it to the students.

Buy this delightful book. And be prepared, because it may surprise you. This is another crossover book, like "Parrots of Telegraph Hill" and "Red Wings in Love", that will appeal to everyone, not just bird lovers. Beautifully written, filled with wonderful bird and nature anecdotes, all shining through the lovely intelligence of the author's graceful voice. This is one of those books that becomes a journey, transporting you to another place with the author your gentle ever-present guide, making it all happen, yet remaining completely unobtrusive. The writing just flows. I recommend it strongly. And, there's more; the physical volume itself is a little jewel. If the writing were mediocre, you would still want to own this book just because it is exquisite. Buy this book. Give it as gifts. It is satisfying on so many levels. My compliments to the author, (who is also the cover artist) and to all those who contributed to its splendid design and layout.

Butterflies of the Pacific Northwest is a field guide beautifully illustrated with color photography throughout. Covering 118 of the most commonly encountered butterflies in Washington, Oregon, and parts of California, Nevada, Idaho, and Canada, Butterflies of the Pacific Northwest offers a quick summary of facts as well as an unmistakable color image of each species featured - many species also have a photograph of the butterfly in caterpillar or cocoon form as well. An easy-to-use guide for learning where and when to observe butterflies, and how to identify male and female adults as well as caterpillars, pupae, and eggs. Enthusiastically recommended for amateur butterfly enthusiasts and field professionals alike.

I am not a cook and can't really tell you how good/bad this cookbook is. What I can tell you is that I stayed at Camp Denali and the food was great (although not enough chocolate based desserts IMHO and since it is the northwest, maybe a bit more fresh salmon would've been nice). In skimming through this book, I did recall some of the food that I ate while there. If the book is representative of the food served at Camp Denali then you will probably be happy with the outcome of the recipes. Enjoy!
