This book is a MUST for those interested in this area of knowledge. Written by 2 authorities, it is well organized, easy to read, and with a deep treatment of this subject, which is both a developing area in sports and one of the most difficult to find sources for learning. Well organized, it starts with some introductory chapters, where the theory behind this subject is outlines, together with the starting blocks to build any system for almost any sport. Then it follows a series of chapters where planning, developing and designing notationaal analysis are learned with practical "real life" examples for most sports. The authors describe very well the different types of notational analysis systems (hand, computer, video systems) with pros and cons of each one. The book is full of examples. Its only drawback is that in dealing with dessigning computer systems, they are based in old software, mostly BASIC language. After (and while) reading it one can find it is a full source of practical knowledge, most of the ideas are ready to use in most cases, and the reader will learn all what is necessary to develop notational analysis. One can only feel proud for buying it. For all interested in the science of notational analysis this is definitevely a Bible

What comes through loud and clear is Coach Tong's commitment the athlete's full development, both on and off the field. Instead of just extracting what we can from the athletes that play for us, he shows how to create an athletic environment that provides lasting lesson's for the athlete's entire life.

My daughter is now playing at a Division II program thanks to this book. Her highschool coaches did not offer any outreach for their female atheletes. The first 40 pages gave us the insight to evaluating her athletic and academic strengths which assisted us in determining the best program to fit her needs. Sure hope this company produces a basketball guide by 2002 when our son begins his college search.

Dr. LeRoy Walker has been referred to as an American Hero and after reading his story, I can fully agree. His story is about overcoming politics, poverty, and racism to eventually become the President of the U.S. Olympic Committee. His Olympic Journey was a remarkable triumph and one I'll always remember. Great book!

We bought this book after our rugby team had two concussions during a match. This book breaks down possible injuries and gives a list of warning signs and how to stabilize injuries until you can reach a hospital. I was very impressed with the clear writing style which makes it possible for anyone to understand and apply the techniques described. I recommend this book for sports teams to keep with their medicine chest.

Perhaps the best book to ever capture the true essence and spirit of long distance running, this well written book features interviews with both amateur and Olympic long distance runners and captures that unique rush that runners get (through the sense of challenge and accomplishment). The book also traces the history of marathon running and its place in human history. Truly a great book that any distance runner should read.

If you have an sense of the rich tradition of Wisconsin athletics, this book is a must-have.

Courageous Reporting

Often sports teams expecting great things want it chronicled for prosperity. The University of Tennessee wanted just such a tome when they asked Mr. Epps, a sports reporter in Chattanooga, to write a book about the widely anticipated Vols run to the NCAA football championship before the 2005 season began. But, things went terribly wrong. The team finished under .500 and even lost to Vanderbilt - usually an automatic win. Thus a season full of promise turned into a disaster - totally unexpected and accepted by the highly competitive and charged "Vol Nation."

Now faced with writing about a losing campaign, rather than the highlights of a championship season, Mr. Epps could have taken the easy way out and offered up a litany of excuses for the Vols sub-par season. To his credit, he did not.

Harking back to an earlier axiom of sports reporting, long before Mr. Epps tapped on a keyboard (after all he is only in his 20s), and not always practiced today by his veteran colleagues, Mr. Epps "Called it as he saw it." He took head coach Fullmer to task for rotten decision making, and wasn't afraid to chronicle the misdeeds and lack of effort of the players.

While Mr. Epps may have suffered the slings and arrows afterwards from the mighty Vols alumni - he is not a Tennessee grad - he can look at himself in the mirror and know he wrote an honest account of a very trying season.

I look forward to reading more straightforward, honest reporting by Mr. Epps.

This book was exactly what I was looking for to review for the NATABOC exam as well as to have for future reference. The layout is perfect as it goes step by step through each evaluation of the different areas of the body.
