The documented story of how a spontaneous nationwide prayer network save a child's life when medical science had abandoned all hope.
Kathy Callahan, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, tells the gripping story of her daughter Deirdre's descent into a deep, life-draining coma as a result of Reye's syndrome. Despite the doctors' pronouncement that Deirdre would not live, the family refused to abandon hope and began to pray.
As word of Deirdre's condition spread, a prayer network mysteriously came into being across the United States. She miraculously emerged from her coma with no ill side effects.
The author weaves a suspenseful, yet practical and instructive story of how the family used prayer and alternative holistic therapies in restoring life to their daughter.
This book is a tribute to a family's love and to the power of prayer that transcended medical knowledge.

Henry W. Spaulding's Book "Untangling the Sexual Revolution" is a true "eye" opener. I have read the book, and being someone who has had difficulty understanding my own sexuality, I am able to see that my confusion was only a misrepresentation of sexuality by the teaching I had received from Parents and the Media. Sex is a beautiful thing, and it is an experience we should all understand more clearly if we are to embrace our sexuality. If you were born in the south and had parents like mine that enforce marrying someone of the opposite gender, you too need to read this book. You'll be glad that you did. Bob and I will be happy for the rest of our lives, thanks to this book.

With so much emphasis on self-help books, "The Upward Call" targets the true purpose for our lives. Spiritual development is not a matter of self-achievement, self-help, or self-discipline, according to this book, but strictly a matter of a relationship with God. This book clearly points out a path, with strong Weslyan foundations, to a meaningful, fulfilling relationship with God. It directs us to become "the whole person in relationship with God, with-in the community of belivevers, growing in Christlikeness, reflected in a Spirit-directed, disciplined lifestyle, and demonstrated in actions that lead others to redemption."
A life-changing read.

An eloquent explication of Conservatism

Dr. Frohnen's book essentially serves as an explanation and advocation for Conservatism. What separates this book from most is that it outlines the assumptions Conservatives make, why they make them and the ethics that result, rather than focusing on programs. It is intellectually more honest than other tracts. The downside is that Frohnen chose not to examine the competing branches of conservatism, especially the divides between the followers of Russell Kirk and Leo Strauss.

Although there are numerous narratives that describe the captivity experience, Robert Doyle does an outstanding job of bringing various captivity experiences together. Whether the person was a captive during the French & Indian Wars, the Civil War or World War II, Robert Doyle does an wonderful job of describing these various experiences. A must read for anyone interested in the human captivity experience. I might even suggest that this book could be viewed as the definitive book on describing the captivity experience.

Your opinion on how the Korean war began and how the U.S. became involved will be forever changed after reading this comprehensive and scholarly account focusing on the creation of the two Koreas during the period 1945 - 1950. For example, the first American soldier to die in combat in Korea was killed in 1948 by South Korean guerillas opposed to Syngman Rhee taking power - not by North Korean Peoples Army (NKPA) soldiers in June 1950. On the other side of the coin, you will also be amazed to discover that the South Korean Army captured Soviet advisors to the North Korean Border troops during the large scale "border skirmishes" that took place in late 1949 and early 1950. For the first time the complete story of the U.S. Korean Military Assistance Group (KMAG) is found here, as well as an in-depth discourse on the creation of the Republic of Korea Army as South Korean security forces transitioned successively from a police force to a constabulary to an army as the political and military situation evolved. The narrative dealing with the trials and tribulations of the American Military Government in Korea is as instructive as it is compelling. Many thanks to Dr. Allan Millett for shedding much needed light on a period of Korean history that has previously been sorely neglected.

An outstanding read! This book is the perfect resource for any "diehard" Chiefs fan. Warpaths covers the K.C. Chiefs from the troubled beginnings of the AFL, to the present day regime under Gunther Cunningham. It covers plenty of history on how Lamar Hunt began the AFL with the Texans in Dallas, to how the Chiefs came to be in K.C. Warpaths has plenty of coverage of most of the prominent players who have ever played for the Chiefs in the their 40 year history. Also detailed are the coaches who have coached for this outstanding franchise. There are more vintage photos of "old" and "new" Chiefs than you can count. I thoroughly enjoyed Warpaths, and would recommend it to not only an avid Chiefs fan, but also an AFL hisorian.
