My Mother passed away and we thought all the paperwork was in order and it was not. I got this book from Amazon and it has outlined every detail and possible stituation. I went and got all the forms and and in the middle of probate right now. Very, very well written for a simple probate case and non complicated estates.
If there are people who will contest the will or complicated properties, business deals; most likely, you will need a lawyer and probating yourself will not work. But if it is very clear and simple, you can probabe yourself. Great book, worh every penny spent on it.

This is a great book for going through the probate process. It takes
you through the entire process and explains all the jargon. The only
problem I had with it is that if your probate includes anything which
is a little out-of-the-ordinary, e.g., heirs/beneficiaries who may contest the will, it does not help. However, one book cannot cover 100% of
the possible cases. This book probably covers 95% of the probate cases
and is helpful even if you are one of the "odd-cases" and you are not familiar with the probate process.

If you are motivated and organzed, this is the guide to help you avoid the high cost of attorneys in probate. I cannot urge you STRONGLY enough to use this book as your guide to probate in California.

At first I picked this book to help with home-schooling, but it's a bit over my son's (and my) head. It also does not explain the theories as well as a plain school textbook. That said, this book is AWESOME! Every page made me want to go buy more chemisty stuff and try things. The experiments cover safety and post experiment waste disposal; things parents are concerned about.

Whether or not my son chooses to join me in "the lab", I can see several months of fascination and pure joy of learning ahead.

My husband bought this Make magazine Home Chemistry publication because we were familiar with Make and is hands-down more thorough than any other publication that we researched. My old chemistry books were too involved and used as reference books for me. The Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments shows you the best ways to obtain basic lab equipment and chemicals necessary for the experiments and which ones can be obtained from local hardware stores. It's great way to make learning fun with all the necessary precautions but yet not so frustrating with the academic and technical jargon. It recommends a schedule of experiments for a typical high school program to experiments tackling more advanced chemistry curriculum. It covers simple experiments as separating and recovering sugar from sand as well as the concepts/types of latent fingerprinting recovery. I highly recommend checking it out if you home school or just want to study or relearn basic or advanced chemical properites in an applicable and understandable manner.

Could'nt be better, or simpler!

I have been involved in chemistry in one way or another for the biggest part of my life, and being a gold refiner by trade, I must say that I have never seen a text as simple to read and understand as this, for the lay person trying to get a start in the chemistry world... To the point, readable and understandable... A five year old could handle this book! With my prior knowledge, I was still riveted to this book... Excellent job! This book is an amazing value. I would pay 50 bucks for this book. Much of the book is full of very useful information about lab equipment and the chemicals you will need--where to find the chemicals, and the specific safety risks of each chemical. The experiments are simply in design, but lengthy enough to be significant learning experiences. Data tables and questions about the lab are included. I'm sure this will turn out to be a very valuable resource for my teaching of secondary science.

Terrific, Smart and Funny!

In Revere is the coming of age tale of Anthony Benedetto and his extended Italian-American family, yet it is also the account of the city of Revere, Massachusetts some forty odd years ago.

Merullo intertwines the two into one entity. Benedetto, orphaned at a young age becomes enmeshed with not only his sizable family of uncles, aunts and cousin's but within the atmosphere that defines Revere. In doing so he creates a conflict that Anthony has to comprehend to sort out the person he genuinely is.

The troupe of characters Merullo has tenderly created is difficult to abandon. The uncle with the oversized personality, who speaks with the grace of a bull and not a 'r' in sight! The Italian grandparents are drawn with out and out perfection, gracefully quiet, yet they have skillful unspoken wisdom that Merullo conveys to the reader with charm and lure.
(Yes, I'm from New England and yes, I had Italian grandparents!)

Revere itself will be a place difficult for the reader to leave behind, from the main street called Broadway, (I have many wicked memories of Broadway...especially during the Blizzard of '78!)...to the richly ornate church of St. Anthonys to the fine grains of sand of Revere Beach; all of these are calling cards to the young Anthony's experiences.

This book is a slice of modern, everday history. A well crafted, impeccably researched and laugh aloud story that is highly enjoyable regardless where you are from!

I am love with this story, the characters came to life, with the town of Revere playing a major character in itself. I identified with the character Anthony Benedetto and his family and laughed out loud many times as well as wiped away tears. I literally could not put this book down, and although I am a Bostonian I know this book will capture the heart of anyone anywhere. Roland Merullo is an excellent story teller, his other books are every bit as enjoyable as this one.

I haven't even finished In Revere, In Those Days, yet I already wanted to review it/recommend it. I am in love with this book. Merullo's writing is exceptional--he captures complex emotions in spare, concise sentences through his careful and perfect word choice. The characters are so well-developed they feel real--and wonderful and interesting. I would love to meet Grandpa Dom. Yes, this book is nostaligic and written like a sentimental memoir--that's part of its appeal to me. I hope I find Merullo's other books (I plan to read A Little Love Story next)as wonderful--perhaps it is this family's story specifically that draws me in. When I have finished the book, I'll re-check this assessment, but for now, I can not say enough about this novel if you enjoy beautiful and clean writing, a complete, well-drawn family, and nostaligic tales of how the dynamic of family relationships affects your life path.

A beautifully written work

Though I don't particularly love the two professional reviews listed here, I like the phrase "omniscient rememberance" that's used in one of them. That's part of the beauty of this novel: in addition to finely-drawn characters and places, and a lovely cadence to the sentences on the page, the author beautifully presents both the text and the subtext of the story at once, so that you are caught up in the richness of the lives that are presented within.

I loved this book for its nostalgia, for its acute observances of the life around the main character, Anthony, for the questions it brought up around my own family, and for the skilled technique in the writing itself.

A wonderful, wonderful work.

"In Revere, In Those Days" is the best novel I have read in years...sensitive, dreamy, with all the love and rough edges of growing up, and all the hopes and sorrows of adulthood. Merullo just draws you in to the Benedetto family and Revere. The story is told through Anthony's eyes and the family emerges and developes as Anthony matures and understands his clan with more clarity. Despite the troubles that surround his Uncle Peter and his cousin Rosalie the love and care that root the Benedettos are evident. It's a tale of another time, another place, that any baby-boomer will recognize.

As a Pastor,I've heard many a good sermon and read many spiritual books. But nothing compares to Alan Clement's ability to spellbind the reader with his magnificently written true life stories. He weaves together into a beautiful tapestry his own brand of Buddhist philosophy, political knowledge, science, wisdom and chutzpah that also seems mysteriously to encapsulate the reader as well. What I found even more intriguing in "Instinct For Freedom" are Alan's honestly-written and courageous choices and sacrifices he has made in life in pursuit of spirituality, freedom, truth and enlightenment. Any and all spiritual seekers from any belief system (or none) should definitely read this book.

In reading most spiritual books, I've noticed that there's a subtle gap between the well-meaning view portrayed, and what I actually feel and experience in reading. You know when you get a used book, and the prior reader has underlined and written, "How true!" Well, it's like other spiritual books have an undertone of "I wish it were true."

In contrast, Clements' words are alive with authentic conviction, and the unmistakeable clarion ring of truth. There's not a trace of pontification. This man has lived an incredible life. He's able to capture the essence of real spirituality and deliver it live and wriggling to the reader. I don't know how he does it. But, as a writer myself, I know that there's only one way he could do it. By really living it. And clearly he does.

He came back down from the mountaintop, so listen up, folks, cause he's really got something worth hearing.

Compelling reading...

...though I think Mr. Clements should not hold his breath while waiting for humanitarian impulses to saturate the planet. If all is one (whether in the quantum, holographic sense, or in the more traditional sense), then it is only "it" rearranging "itself" when living things appear to consume and/or exploit one another. It may only be an infinitely-manifesting (fractal) consciousness at play. In short, I have become skeptical of any and all conclusions drawn by us. Perhaps we are just a dream, as suggested by Chuang Tzu. I doubt whether we are nearly so important as we would have ourselves believe. How much would the earth miss us?

Timely and important read!

I had the good fortune of seeing Alan in action during a recent retreat - now here's a guy who lives & loves life with reckless abandon. This planet needs guys like him big time if there's going to be any evolution of human consciousness beyond our current self-centred pettiness.

Kaplan products tell you how to approach each question on the NCLEX exam because exam is very different than the real world of nursing practice. Also exam is not about testing your knowledge and how well you know the facts, for example it will not ask you what CHF or DVT is instead it will ask you how you will utilize the knowledge about these problems, which includes critical thinking and establishing priority. I found Maslow's hierarchy very very helpful in prioritizing client needs. I highly recommend kaplan course,I know it is expensive but it worths passing the exam.

I purchased this book instead of taking their review class because let's face it, the class is pricey. It was so very worth it. You can review facts all you want, but the thing that makes this book awesome is that it teaches you how to think through the questions and pick the "best" answer. I passed my boards and then lent the book to my friends and co-workers who were taking the boards because it was so helpful for me.

An excellent, quick, and to the point book that I throughly enjoyed reading. Now, I normally don't enjoy all of the "sappy" content that this book is made of...but Amy Yurk has a way of writing and developing characters that makes you feel as if you are their best friend.

Sometimes you think you have the worst problems in the world...this book helps you to realze that maybe you don't. Sometimes you wonder why your marriage isn't as perfect as everyone else's seems to be...this book helps you to see that every marriage has its good parts and its not so good parts.

This book takes you through one of the scariest challenges of a woman's life....watch how the main character deals with the hand that life has dealt her...you will be inspired...and humbled.

stirring page-turner explores grief, pregnancy, friendship

Review Date: 2001-10-18
In her debut novel, "The Kind of Love That Saves You," talented Amy Yurk reveals the depth and quality of friendships women attain when confronted with the profound polarities of premature death and a highly anticipated pregnancy. Suffused with feminist sensitivity and a clear picture of the significance of initmacy women seem to attain only with and through each other, "The Kind of Love" chronicles a tumultuous year in the life of its protagonist Sarah Strickland, who must confront the shocking and unexpected death of her beloved husband and the enormous phsyical and emotional challenges presented to her through her pregnancy with the child her husband will never expeience.

Written as a series of journal entires/letters to her yet unborn child, the novel limps through its first third and does not attain its true stature until the protagonist confronts the very issue to which she introduces the reader in her moving prologue. In the novel's second paragraph, Sarah admonishes us that "every person's journey is touched by loss...Grief will reach in and wrap its roots tightly around your heart." The novel's central premise is presented in the next paragraph: "What I know now and so desperately want you to understand is that the grief that comes from losing someone does not have to be an ending. As with most experiences in life, you have a choice."

One the author has introduced the cruel and abrupt removal of Sarah's husband, however, her characters become truly alive to each other. "The Kind of Love" is no pat treatment of either the grieving process or the impact of pregnancy on a suddenly-single mother. Sarah Strickland pours out her heart to her yet unborn child; her uncertainties, ambivalences, fears and anger resonate with authenticity. Her lifelong friendship with Calista strains and nearly buckles under the stresses of Sarah's newly-minted anguish. Though the reader yearns for reassurance that the honorable protagonist will prevail -- that life will reassert itself in all its wonder, possibility and frustration -- the author never bends to convenience in her resolution of Sarah's life.

Splendid characterizations abound in this slim, immensely readable novel. Not only does Sarah come to unknowingly represent the verities of the heart she so valiantly struggles to comprehend, her friendships with Sarah and the stranger, Julie, seem real and genuine. Since the entire novel is written as a series of journal entries, readers should not expect soaring eloquence on every page. Sarah's decisions and actions speak far more convincingly that her words.

Nevertheless, Ms. Yurk has provided her audience with ample evidence that both she and her imagined protagonist are living with an informed heart. Against our wishes, we are compelled to acknowledge the "wonder of pain," but through that pain comes a renewed possibility of love. Indeed, the love that Sarah discovers for her unborn child is so fierce, so consuming, that it acts as a transformative influence in her wanderings through the barren recesses of grief. It is a love so deep, so thorough, so cleansing, that it becomes the kind of love that saves you.

A Heartwarming Afternoon Delight

What a charming little book! At only 225 pages, with large typeface, the story kept me enthralled for one rainy, gray afternoon in February. As the book jacket says, the author possesses a deep understanding of what it means to be human, to be alive. Sarah Strickland and her best friend, Calista have been best friends, almost sisters, since childhood. They share every intimate detail of their lives. Calista married the best friend of Sarah's husband, Gavin. Calista and her husband already have a child, and Sarah wants one, but Gavin is not ready, so a conflict between them is set up, even though they seem to have a great marriage otherwise.

Finally, Gavin agrees to start a family and they are both ecstatic when Sarah becomes pregnant. Then tragedy strikes and the bonds of friendship between Sarah and Calista are sorely tested. Although Calista does her best to help Sarah through her devastating loss, they grow further and further apart. Sarah starts a friendship with a new neighbor who coincidentally has suffered a similar loss, and this causes jealousy between Sarah and Calista.

The author's ability to explore the depths and heights of human emotion and suffering are impressive. This book will make you laugh and cry and totally empathize with all the characters. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it.

Your next few years

Review Date: 2006-10-22
For most of us the best indicator of what tomorrow or next year will be like is to look at yesterday or last year and just project it out. More of mostly the same. We let our responses to the normal events of the day define our experience. Many hopes and wishes just remain hopes and wishes. These two decided very purposefully that they wanted something different. They decided this at the beginning of their eighth decade of life, and produced a written plan of just they wanted from their next five years and how they would do it.

Their goal was to experience the daily life and the culture of several locations in Europe The path to that goal included selling a home, disposing of years of accumulated stuff, renting an apartment, making the travel plans, and dealing with health issues along the way.

It is a story written from each of their perspectives giving some history of their families, what brought them to this decision, the challenges they faced and a description of their stays in European. Their descriptions are personal and delightful. Those who have traveled even briefly in similar style will be reminded of their own frustrating mishaps that then became fond and some of the best recollected memories.

You'll likely end the reading of their story wondering about your own next few years and maybe even getting out a pencil and paper.

Most people shudder at the thought of relocating anywhere and International moves are known to be fraught with more complications than most. Not considered so by Don & Dana Manges, a couple who, at age 72, spontaneously agreed to eschew the classic retirement life of napping and rocking precious days away but instead to sample living for a time in four major European cities.

Don & Dana record their impressions of the cultural offerings of each sojourn, the places and events savored and the pleasure of forming new friendships. They've described frustrations encountered with language whilst settling into each place but even those hiccups were viewed as amusing episodes .

Leaving Home at 72 details these two years through alternating essays written in Don and Dana's individual, whimsical, thoughtful styles that reveals much about their personalities and enduring interests. It's apparent that both thoroughly enjoyed the going, seeing, doing and laughing at the peculiarities of living abroad. Best of all, they bring to the reader an awareness that life after 70 affords a special opportunity to plunge ahead, to act on a dream and "to boldly go" to parts not yet explored.

It is very well thought out, with complete maps for everything. Of course, it being a guide book, if you really want to beat it you ought try to do it yourself first, and consult the book only when necessary. But they have done a very fine job.

There is one stint I have against it, however. At the beginning of each section, they have suggestions for things you ought to do. This is all well and fine - but one some of these they should direct you to the page number that dealt with that specific item or whatever it is. Example: they say in one of the later sections it is good to go and get your boomerang. You have to go back and find where they talk about the boomerang (which, as I remember, in the early part of the book, not the section it should be). But this is only a minor stint.

Another good thing is they have a map, and on the back of that is where to get all the new pictures from the camera shop. The only problem with that is if you lose the map, you're basically screwed in the picture department.

Visually very nicely laid out. You can very clearly tell where you need to go. The dungeons are taken step by step, and is an excellent example in the writing of guides. I would like to see more of their work: if its anywhere near this good, then they're great overall. They should be regularly featured guide writers (they probably are). The one problem I mentioned is only minor, and does not deserve to detract an entire star.

Therefore, this guide book is 4 & ½ stars. Keep it up you guys! Actually, on second thought, a full 5 stars.

Excellent Guidebook for one of the Gameboy Greats!

Nelson has entertained me so much with his easy to read style - I just found myself smiling. The recipes were a bonus and not that different to what I'd cook 'down under' : we are having a Nelsen Dinner tonight ! This book was pure enjoyment - thanks heaps. I was quite embarrassed for the author, obviously he wrote this book of so called fine entertaining in great style for his very close friends. I could get the same advice down at the hairdresser. Fine cuisine is not his forte, boring beyond words.

I bought a couple copies of this to give as gifts and ended up reading it, and kept one for myself. A lot of funny stories and useful information told with humor and personality. Also a great bargain at the price offered here.

I am not kidding, I do consult the book whenever I question which utensil goes where. I'm not sure how Nelson learned and retained this since we grew up in the same house (yes, he's my brother), and I didn't have a clue past the salad fork and soup spoon. The book was a lot of fun and easy to read. The recipes were fairly simple and very good. Since I have been a guest at Nelson's dinner parties, I can attest to his fabulous gift for entertaining. Read the book - you will enjoy it and have some great recipes for your next dinner party.

Brad Pitt seeks dinner party!

Listen- Brad, we all know you want and need just the right dinner party right now. Feeling rather awkward and not so sure of what party might be -ugh- "appropriate" or actually FUN! Perhaps you would like to start fresh, with a most coy little apperitif? The shy canape? Relax with a warm and mature red wine for comfort? Move on to an appetizing mousse and brave a devilish egg? Oh yes Brad- you know it feels right!
Suddenly Brad, your whole world feels- well somehow new, bright, and just right! You have entered the world of Nelson Aspen, and his Vanity Fair meets ( well pick your most unapologetic hedonist-emily post idol).
Let the stress melt, let your new friends fascinate you, hover and glide for the next 4 hours into a velvety cloaked assembly of friends, possibly freaks and fine food, music, candles,a bit of magic.
Buy this book or forever regret your existance!

This is a great overview of many butterflies. It can be used to ID caterpillars/butterflies, like my grandson did for a science project, or just to enjoy butterflies in a garden full of plants for butterflies.

The Life Cycles of Butterflies: From Egg to Maturity, a Visual Guide to 23 Common Garden Butterflies

My brother and I collected butterflies as children. Our grandfather built beautiful display cases of wood, glass and cork. When I found this book at a nature center I knew I had to have it for my own grandchildren. The focus is on observation rather than collecting, and even includes a section on butterfly gardening to attract the butterflies right to your own back yard. Gorgeous photographs and clear text make this book a valuable resource for young nature lovers, and their grandparents.

This is such a fantastic book for anyone interested in learning about butterflies. The pictures are spectacular and instructive and the verbage is accessible to even the very young. I'm only sad that it covers 12 species. They do a great job creating a starting place for any newbie.

Wow, what a book! Fantastic photos! All the basic information for each butterfly included in the book is listed in one place. I have a butterfly garden in my back yard in central Florida and have several very good books on butterflies and butterfly gardening and this book is an excellent addition. I originally purchased this book to give to the granddaughter of a friend that is interested in butterflies. I am keeping it!
