When this book showed up I was a bit overwhelmed. It is more of a reference manual than practical reading, but this volume has SO MUCH valuable information! I will consult this often!

I have used this book for everything from looking up recipes to researching diets, cleanses, learning about vitamins, minerals and diseases. Every household should have this book!

This is exactly the book I've been looking for! Objective, to-the-point facts on nutrition, vitamins, eating habits, and other topics such as preservatives, toxins, etc. I've seen too many "fad" nutritional books that are biased toward either vegan/vegetarian, low carb, low fat, high fat-low carb, etc. This book seems to be objective enough to allow the readers to decide on their own what diet path to take. This book, a good diet, and exercise can stand on their own and I feel this book can last a long time as a good reference book. Personally, I prefer a well-rounded diet (including some red meat), chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts. I lean toward organic or natural foods. Should readers decide to focus on another particular diet, they can supplement this book with one that follows their philosophy. I highly recommend this book as a stand alone or as a starting point to other diets.

This is an awesome book for anyone interested in nutrition. Very indepth text book style reading but worth every miniute!

I own a sheep operation with over 100 ewes. I always recommend this book to new producers when they purchase sheep from me. Storey's Guide to Raising Sheep covers all the basic information: breeds, feeding, shelter requirements, diseases, care for lambs and adults, even what to do with the wool from your sheep. I use it for a ready reference, and I have been known to GIVE a copy to new shepherds. There are chapters on fencing, livestock guardian dogs, pasture management, and herding dogs. There is even a section covering products and marketing. This book is thorough, yet easily understood even by a novice. If you want to raise sheep, read this book first so you'll be prepared to bring your first ones home.

Had a very old version of this book before I bought the new one. It keeps with the high quality tradition of Storey's Guides. It a great reference book for our farm library.

This is an excellent book for those interested in raising sheep and for those that are already doing so. Excellent addition to your library. Very good chapters on breeds and on gaurdian dogs. Really enjoyed the "shepard's story's" scattered throughout the book!

When I started out with sheep in 1991, an earlier edition of this book was one of only two books I could find on sheep raising. It was called "Raising Sheep the Modern Way" and of the two books, this was the most useful. It had a comprehensive guide to breeds of sheep which helped me pick which breed to get, it had useful plans for sheep feeders and such, and a helpful section on sheep guardian dogs. (I'm still trying to get my dog to read that part.)
This was the book I ran in to the house to consult when I had a sick sheep or when a ewe was in labor with a lamb coming out backwards.

But time has gone by since then. When I first saw "Storey's Guide to Raising Sheep" in my local Tractor Supply store, I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that kind of money on a book I already owned. I did it anyway, and it sure was worth it.

This book is a complete update of the former edition. It adds sheep breeds that have become important since the last edition, such as the Dorper. It includes new information without removing any of the old that made this book so important.

I must admit that I don't consult this new edition the way I did the old. I've become experienced with sheep and also have subscribed to 'Sheep!' magazine, 'Goat Rancher' and other livestock publications. But when faced with a new situation--- such as when I decided to add a second sheep breed to my Shetland flock, or when I got my guardian dog--- this book is the one I consult first.

Sheep are the most efficient and ecological way to convert grass and brush into food for humans. If you are considering raising sheep either as a homesteader or a full-scale rancher, this book should be on your shelf--- when it's not in your hands.

This book is a definite must for anyone thinking sheep! It seems that nothing goes missing from this read. It gives you all the info you need for basics and even emergencies. It doesn't make the negative overwhelming for those prospective shepherds out there and it adds a happy light to the joys of raising these docile animals. I was surprised and glad to see the information on rare breeds- I am leaning in that direction. A wonderful compilation that merits it name "the small-scale sheep-raiser's bible." If you are wondering in any way, shape, or form about sheep, reach for this book before any other! An enjoyable and informative book!

Read this many years ago -- when it first came out in hardcover. Loved the writing which was so very real to me. The mother/daughter relationship was described flawlessly, and I have read so many mother/daughter books!! Their conflicts, as well as their motivation[s] captured and held my attention to the point where the laundry almost reached my ceiling!! I'm waiting for more [reasonably priced] novels from this author!! Brava!!

Tackling one of the most difficult relationships, that of mother-daughter, as well as the relationships each forges in her life, this book will have you laughing and crying and caring.

in this book, as well as Glickfeld's first book, Useful Gifts, I am pulled deeply into the lives of the characters. By the end of the book I know them well because I have lived them, not just read about them. This is the author's story telling gift.

Carole Glickfeld begins her novel, Swimming Toward the Ocean, with a minor miracle: Devorah, the first-person narrator, narrates the opening scenes from within her mother's womb. The story builds compellingly as the characters develop, but it sags a bit after the midpoint, and the plot is weakened by its reliance on devices, such as a financial windfall that takes us out of realism and into fantasy. Swimming Toward the Ocean is not a long novel, but this reader believes it could have been edited down a bit, as the main characters eventually become predictable and tiresome. But Glickfeld is a gifted and disciplined writer, on the whole, and her debut novel is much better than most that are being published today.

What a wonderful, all-consuming novel! I could barely put it down. I cried when I finished it! The characters, the setting the time, the Yiddish-isms, all resonated deeply within me. I highly recommend this moving and tremendously enjoyable book!!

Tell Your Clients Where To Go! is required reading for creatives or anyone in the agency world. Whether you have daily contact with clients are not, Todd Sebastian gives very simple techniques that, if followed will help you be a more effective team member as well as take your career to a new level. All of his techniques are backed up with personal examples and results. As a designer with 13 years of experience, this was a wonderful refresher of the basics of business while providing some new ideas and approaches to client services. I wish that I had this book when I started my career!!!!!

Tell Your Clients Where to Go! is an invaluable resource for individuals that want to improve their relationships with their clients. Todd Sebastian lays out his practical advice in a way that is understandable, but more importantly, actionable. His approach to the topic of client leadership is insightful and he drives his key points home with real-life examples that are easily transferrable to any client-facing role. This is an excellent read for those new in their role and refreshing for those more advanced in their career.

Leadership on Paper! Years ago, I took a course at P&G called "Leadership on Paper", which changed the way I approached writing and produced dramatically different results. Now, Todd Sebastian's book, "Tell Your Clients Where to Go!" has changed my view of what clients really want. And it's NOT service!

Designers, art directors and creative directors will also benefit by reading Todd Sebastian's "Tell Your Clients Where To Go". Fully understanding your client's needs, wants, goals and challenges is the key to producing great creative. Being able to produce beautiful designs or develop intriguing copy is one thing...being a partner with your client, knowing how to sell your ideas and contributing strategically is what will catapolt your career. This is a "must read" for any creative team.

I am a marketing veteran, and I can tell you, if P&G is your client and you want to be viewed as top account talent, just follow Sebastian's advice to the letter! There is no doubt the same would be true with any client.

This is a thorough and systematic review of the important traits that will lead to fully meeting and exceeding client expectations.

This is a great book. The author does not write with the touch of a professional but it is because of this that the book is such of gold mine! It is penned with a down-to-earth style. Books like this give one great insight into the everyday happenings during war time which are seldom captured by professional historians, whose goal is to capture the greater scheme of events. To learn about a great event or crisis, you must read the works of historians. However, to fully understand such things, you must compliment these works with books that present common, everyday humanity in such circumstances.

Tullio Bertini performed a great service by showing us slices of real life that few in this life are privy to experience. The author shows that children in times of war desire what they want during times of peace; they want to make friends, play games, learn things and so on, irrespective of the culture. The author shows the hardship, camaraderie and bravery exhibited in times of great crisis. A good example is where the area priest was able to save 300 people from deportation by leading them to a safe haven. Another example is the story of a priest who hid Jews from the Germans and Fascists. This chronicle demonstrates a common human bond among people, a bond which leadership tries to destroy for its own warped reasons but in the final analysis never can.

Tullio Bertini has written an earnest, but amateur book about his childhood experiences in Italy. His memories of his life there are interesting, but don't come to life because he's not very skilled at narrative, but only at writing "just the facts". He includes plenty of detail about what was going on in WW II at the time -- a little too much, it seemed to me. He also tells a lot about how things were done in his village, such as harvesting and roasting chestnuts, making charcoal, etc. The book is nearly half over before the Germans show up in town. Then he does relate some telling incidents, such as the first time Allied warplanes strafed some Germans who were mining a bridge, and what he saw and how he reacted. Contrary to the title, he was not liberated by the Buffalo Soldiers, but by Brazilians! The Buffalo Soldiers arrived several days later. This is an excellent personal history for his family to keep, but does not qualify as a professional memoir.

A retired lawyer and former intelligence officer. This personal memoir describes the six years that an American teenage boy spent with his Italian American parents caught by the outbreak of World War II in their native town in Tuscany. It is an indispensible contribution to the grass-roots, social history of wartime Fascist Italy. It's filled with the amazing details and realities of daily life, reflecting an intimate insight into the social life and customs of a small Tuscan town north of Florence. The story starts prosaically with an explanation of why the family has returned to Italy. It becomes an absorbing story building to a dramatic climax. The German Army attempts to "relocate" the villagers acting in preparation of the German defensive Gothic Line north of the Arno. The villagers escape by walking all night on trails through mountainous terrain to reach an Apennine valley probed by advancing American forces. Those forces are the all-black American "Buffalo Soldiers" of the famous 92nd Division. These dramatic events are told in a straightforward narrative style reminiscent of Hemmingway. The account is informed by the seemingly photographic memory of the man the boy grew to be. The maps and background presentation reflect the training of author Bertini's adult interlude in American Army Intelligence. It is a must read for those who want to know what is was like to be caught in the harsh realities of a war zone, and for Italian-Americans and others would enjoy a first-hand social history of survival in the Italy of World War II. I think Sophia Loren, remembering her childhood wartime experiences, would empathize and recommend this book. Mr. Bertini's story is a very insightful account of the Nazi occupation, of the eroding Fascist Party of Mussolini, of the heroic effort of the Resistance, and of the liberation of his family's village by the Allies. It's also a narrative of Tuscan village life and Italian family traditions. His descriptions of various crafts of the villagers, methods of farming by the contadini, and the processing and preparation of the typical products of the region are incomparable. I have read Trapped in Tuscany three times and have visited Diecimo after each reading, to relive the events of the war and Tullio's extraordinary boyhood adventure.

I have been reading up on the war in Italy, and this story was a refreshing change from the narratives of battles big and small. I recently visited Diecimo on my way past Lucca, saw the house of Tullio, and spoke with a local who was also a boy during the war. This story helped me understand from another perspective the incredible damage done to the Italian people by the Nazi forces and to the infrastructure by both Germans and Allies.

The book really speaks to the most urgent problem in todsy's workplace in my view: lack of trust. As we are all asked to do more with less (time, people and money), it is more important than ever to establish and sustain trust in the workplace. The techniques and skills set forth in the book are applicable to every walk of life. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to improve their relationships with others, as well as with themselves.

We've probably all experienced that really bad job that drained every bit of creativity, energy, and enthusiasm we had. Perhaps you had that overbearing boss who had unrealistic expectations or that supervisor who wouldn't just trust you do your work. Maybe you worked in a place where suggestions or attempts to solve problems were quickly quashed or met with anger.

Trust and Betrayal in the Workplace unequivocally illustrates that such situations not only make the job a hassle but also inhibit the potential productivity of all employees. Basically, as the employee realizes that he or she (or others around them) is being devalued, he or she becomes less committed to doing the best job possible.

Dealing with the resulting morale issue is extremely challenging. Even if the actual problem is addressed, often lost trust is difficult to repair. This is an excellent work that cuts through the typical babble that fills many pages of others books on the subject of trust. The content is exceeding meaty. The organization of the material is first-rate. One of the very best books on the subject. Highly recommended!

The Reina's develop understandable definitions and offer a well researched and thought out framework for both the development and practice of trust. They also offer practical and accessible vignettes and case studies illustrating the 'trust behaviors' that are so crucial to effective organizations and relationships.

Probably the most powerful part of the book is the section on Betrayal. Betrayal is a huge factor in our lives and we rarely talk about it. This book offers a language, method, and solution for both talking about betrayal and beginning the process of healing from it.

This is an important book for people interested in getting to the root of systemic problems in institutions, families, and relationships.

I highly recommend it!

Although this book is rather machine-specific, I found that it had some good advice for the beginning machine quilter. It was a little technical and I had to really study it rather than just read through it, but it was helpful in the long run. It would be the perfect guide for the quilter who owns a Gammil quilting machine.

This book is helpful for those who want to manually guide quilting. It has no information on using the computer to place designs for a longarm machine, such as my HandiQuilter ProStitcher. It has good tips for starting a quilting business.

This book is everything I had hoped for. I actually do short arm quilting, but this book was very helpful in the questions I had. I would recommend it to anyone who has a long arm or short arm quilting machine on a frame.

This book has some great tips and has very clear instructions and I found it to be very helpful. I recently purchased a longarm machine and this book has some great ideas that are very useful. Well worth the money.

Linda Taylor's book, The Ultimate Quilt to Longarm Machine Quilting, became my teacher after purchasing my new longarm quilter at the 2007 Houston International Quilt Festival. Quilting friends highly recommend the book and the book became my teacher and companion for the past six weeks. The book clearly defines terms and how the machines work. Quick References decipher quilt jargon, how to load a longarm, what tools you need most, defines quilt jargon, pantographs, tips on how to start a business as a longarm quilter and how to avoid longarm body problems when quilting too long without exercise. I am a long time sewer and a three-year quilter. I am a retired teacher that learns most by reading and then by watching. This book is well written, has good photography to support the techniques and a great book for the new longarm quilter as well as a experienced quilter. My book is already dog-eared and showing the wear. IT IS A GOOD BOOK!

Look no further. This is the Reason book to own. I'm looking forward to a Reason 3.0 version!

This book is the most well written, documented, and friendly instruction manual I have ever read.

Firstly, its entirely clear that the author is a professional user of Reason, knows heaps about the program and how to maximize its potential, as well as suggests ways for taking it out of the norm.

Secondly, the tone of the author is friendly and fun. You get the feeling this book was written by your big brother or best friend giving you the details. The text is clear, simple, and accurate. The author conveys information without loosing your interest or overwhelming you with dry tech speak.

I have used Reason for 2 years and am a Reason 3.0 user, but still refer to this book often. It covers so much about the core of the program that you will quickly be able to learn the new devices in 3.0 as you will have a fantastic foundation and understanding of the application. The book explains all the devices in 2.0 (including the functions of knobs, sliders, buttons, synthesis models, loops, envelopes, etc), CV/Gating, Sequencing, ReWire, use with other major audio applications, useful tips/tricks, and plenty of links to helpful user websites. It also has numerous quick and easy "how to" tutorials, that are clearly documented step by step and with pictures.

Very well done. I am grateful for how quickly I was able to ramp up on Reason due 90% to this book. Honestly, this should be the standard for instructional texts.

No, you can't RECORD with Reason. But there are countless ways to use files that you have recorded with other, very simple or even free applications (how about your Sony Minidisk recorder hooked up to a decent mike? talk about light years ahead of what we had available way back when); files that you have downloaded, files that you have gotten off of records or CD's or even TV, in Reason (shame!). It can be as simple as having the drum machine play a sound file from anywhere on your computer, with a surprising amount of control of, for example, sample start-and then you move on to the more powerful samplers... And then this will provide you with many different ways to control and distort, filter, and manipulate those files that are so easy to trigger or otherwise get inside Reason. Because that is what Reason does, it gives you a studio full of tools-synths, samplers, mixers, and the many sound sculpting modifiers to create, twist, and control your sounds.

And this book does a fantastic job of showing you these tools, in a very carefully thought out order and depth. Like another reviewer said, you would have to be a serious power user indeed not to get many good ideas from this book; and like yet another reviewer said, people that write textbooks should look at this one and see just how well it can be done. It will take you from a novice to synthesizers to an expert on Reason and computer synthesis music creation, giving history and background to help you learn about the many music synthesis tools. It is filled with tutorials, how-to's, and tips and tricks that even go beyond Reason sometimes. You could take a tutorial and change it as you follow along and create it and have a complete Reason song of your own easily. I also thought it gave a summarily good introduction into the powerful usage of the Control Voltage interface from ages past (one of Reason's most powerful tools in it's bag of tricks-one that ties everything together like you have never been able to do with so many different devices), with tips and tricks there, too. There are a lot of toys available in Reason, but once you get past a certain not-too-difficult level, it is actually a very intuitive and very fun to use interface; and this book is definitely filled with this same infectious enthusiasm for that rack o' modules and wires. It is an extraordinarily good book for beginner to expert.

You should see my copy of this book, it is nearly destroyed from so much usage, carrying it about wherever I go and constantly going back to it for reference.

As a side note, I think the Acrobat Reader Operation Manual supplied with Reason is also excellent. It's just what it should be-precise and to the point-it's an Operation Manual, after all. If you take the time to practise and apply what you read, it will give you the background to know what you are doing (as much as is possible-sometimes when you have so much going on in a patch it would be hard for anyone to say how you got there-and that can be fun, too) and what every control does. This book will do the same and take you farther with much more help.

Before I read this book I had Reason installed on my computer and I didn't use it very often because the interface wasn't straightforward for a beginning user like myself to understand how to operate it beyond basic operations. This book is an excellent source to learn how to use Reason 2 or 2.5. It contains practical, hands-on tutorials, explanations of the knobs and interfaces, and helpful tips. This is a must have if you want to become proficient in Reason!

This book contained a great amount of information. To use as reference or to learn from over all a great buy.

It helped me along in using C.V. Gates ect. and offers lots of other great information.

The Lunar Module (LM) is an incredibly complex engineering marvel that was used as a temporary home for 12 astronauts on the harsh lunar surface. It was also a landing vehicle and a launch vehicle. As an engineer by education and experience I find this vehicle breath taking.

It is fascinating to see the complexity of all of the systems on the LM. Extremely well illustrated, this book provides an excellent overview into the work that went into developing the vehicle. One can see by the sophistication of the LM that the training necessary for the astronauts to competently operate it was serious business. Even more amazing is that this is just the high level view of this marvel. Each of the systems: Radar, propulsions, life support, instrumentation (and more) have many more layers of complexity!

This book and Virtual Apollo about the command and service modules (also written by Scott Sullivan) are both worth the read for anyone interested in the space program or engineering marvels, or both!

The Re-Discovery of Common Sense: A Guide to: The Lost Art of Critical Thinking

This book is how I'd like to see a lot of other aerospace subjects covered. It gives a vivid and easy to understand perspective of all the little ins and outs to the subject. The level of detail is unprecidented outside of an engineering office. The autor obviously has a love affair going on with autocad.

I always wondered what the heck is behind that flat panel on the back of the LM ascent stage. Now I know! And you could too if you buy this book.

This book is great! The renderings are very thorough. My one regret is that I wish there were more photographs of the items that were rendered. But this being the internet age, you can find most of those on the web!

"Virtual LM" provides a detailed pictorial explanation of the Apollo Lunar Module and its "baggage" - the ALSEP packages and Lunar Rover. Carefully drawn color-coded diagrams explain the structure and systems of the Lunar Module, showing detail from several different angles. If you have an engineering bent, and love (or need) to know how things work, this is the book for you. If you want an overview of the Lunar Module - this book gives you more detail than you will ever need to know.

The Apollo Lunar module was born from the concept that a single lunar vehicle would be too large for any rocket booster concepts at the time. A man named John Houbolt persued an idea that if 2 vehicles could rendezvous in lunar orbit vs. trying to build a complex lander and orbiter in Earth orbit, a single, smaller launch vehicle could do the mission.
NASA bought into the revolutionary idea in 1962, and the race to the Moon began in earnest.

Scott Sullivan has produced a beautiful testimony to the first manned spacecraft to land on the Moon. This book will be "must buy" for all the engineers that will build the new Orion Lunar Lander. Sullivan shows in beautiful illustrations what was put and where on this ungainly vehicle that was never designed to return people to Earth. His masterful use of pictures and text pulls back the foil, so to speak and lets the reader discover the simplicity that allowed the eagle to land. He shows the differences between each LM, and where they put the car!!!

An excellent companion to HBO's miniseries-"From the Earth to the Moon".

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT! If you have a child coming up on SAT's or even in middle or elementary school, this is the best book out there! It was recommended to us by a reading specialist. I love to read the book just to see if I can recall words. Love IT so BUY IT!

This is a fantastic book. I am in 6th grade and got this and loved it. I would reccommend this for grades 6th -- 11th. The way it works: first it shows the word, say "copious". Next, it shows the definition -- in this case, "abundant;plentiful". Underneath, it shows a link word. For "copious", the link word was "cup". An amusing cartoon strip follows, such as the one for "copious" which showed a grinning man proudly holding a massive cup of coffee. The caption read, "A COPIOUS CUP of coffee". Then, there are three good examples. At the end of every ten words, there's a review to make sure you understand. This book is wonderful, and I reccommend it to everyone! I loved it. In total, there are 290 words.

This book is a delight! Both this and it's sister version (Vocabulary Cartoons 2) are wonderful vocabulary builder starters before you drift off into harder works like "The Wizard of Oz Vocabulary Builder." That book sounds easy enough, but it's actually geared towards 12th graders and beyond.

These books are wonderful for visual learners, although, others might get something out of them. Building your vocabulary is a process, but the time spent will be well rewarded. A strong vocabulary helps everything, including foreign language and math skills. As you delve into harder works, you'll be learning Latin and Greek roots which build excellent decoding skills for standardized tests.

These books are perfect for summer education. You want your kids to enjoy themselves, however, it doesn't hurt to move ahead academically either. These materials -- and ones like them -- are fun summer pleasure readers. And they'll learn something along the way. Adults will likely enjoy them too!

No one cares about your education more than you do. Fortunately, we live in the day and age where materials just keep getting better and better. So supplement, supplement, supplement. Have no fear: it can actually be fun. A+

this book was a simple, fun way to review vocab for SAT

This book has been one of my most valuable resources in my classroom. Each of my students owns a copy, and through class activities that incorporate the vocabulary into various literature lessons, I have seen results. One student recently took the SATs for the second time and reported a 210-point increase in his verbal score--an increase that he ascribes to this book. I highly recommend this resource to any literature teacher and college-bound student.
