Best wireless analysis book.Review Date: 2006-04-10
A must have for wireless professionalsReview Date: 2005-03-05
Excellent and detailed book about the 802.11 technologyReview Date: 2005-04-12
It goes over every field in the 802.11 packets, packet types, etc.
Now, if you're studying for the CWAP exam, you should read it twice and make sure you understand all that is explained in the book.
I used this book on my CWAP exam preparation, and I passed it.
This book is excellentReview Date: 2005-01-31
I have not come across anything related to wireless analysis that I needed to implement that was not discussed or referenced in this book.
The knowledge in this book should be added to your wireless toolkit, even if you are not going to be taking the test.
Great book!

A great book with potential to be an all time great oneReview Date: 2005-01-25
My other issue is that the authors state that PCF is not wildly used and will only be covered in a summary fashion yet there is a lot of detail about PCF.
I disagree with the other reviewers about trace screens there should be more, see the Cisco press 802.11 book.
The layout of the frames and operation are very good and the book does make learning this topic a little easier. I did learn a few new things that I didn't get from the Cisco press book. I used the book mostly for the CWAP went through 4 reads plus 4 read of the Cisco press. I labbed a lot of the protocol traces to learn. The book is very good and does make it easier to learn and grasp. But, there is a lot to cover in this text for the exam. I was able to pass on the first attempt with a decent score.
The book, although very good for a first edition, does have a lot of errors and the errata is growing.
I and others have posted many of the errors to be included in the errata on the CWNP forum.
Overall it is an excellent book but these inconsistencies should be corrected in the second edition. It has the potential to be one of those all time great guides and professional reference once the errors are corrected.
Worth every penny and worth taking the CWAP. I learned a lot from this book....

Life Changing BookReview Date: 2008-04-06
This book talks about all that. It gives you hundreds of very specific ideas on jobs, finding jobs/opportunities and how to make ends meet. The whole book is mingled with personal accounts from people who actually went out into the world and lived an amazing life. I work in a news room for my college newspaper, and half of the staff is seniors. I've left the book in the office, and everyone of them reads it and tells me how great it is. Best $10 I've ever spent!

Overall, I am enjoying the book thoroughly. I find it to be extremely informative, motivating, and well organized. Even the book itself is very nice physically, with a very attractive layout, smooth heavy pages, crisp bold fonts, and a perfect medium size.
Highly recommended!!!
I'm still delaying the real world in my 30's!Review Date: 2008-02-15
I've been traveling the world and doing what I want for the past 5 years now, before finally settling here in the Philippines. Although I'm poor, not accruing any social security or pensions, not following any real career path, etc. I'm happy. And that's the most important thing. I don't believe in getting a serious job unless it's something I love, just because society says so. The purpose of life is to enjoy it, and if you're not enjoying it with enriching experiences, then you are wasting your life in my book, even if you're making good money in a good job.
I have recommended this book to all my email group and list. It gives a whole new dimension on life and offers an alternative that the educational establishment in America never tells you about.
I've created my own website describing the joyous benefits unknown to most Americans of being abroad long term. It's called Happier Abroad at http://www.happierabroad.com. It helps inspire people to pursue international living, dating and traveling, and cultivate an awareness of the positive benefits overseas unknown to most Americans, who instead are living in fear and isolation perpetuated by the US media and culture which tells them that there is nothing good outside the US and that you are empty inside and need to work and consume to fill that emptiness. It's a soulless life lacking connectedness with others and inner life.
Check it out. It'll give you a whole new dimension on life.
Thanks for reading this review.
Sincerely,
Winston

Interviews and MoreReview Date: 2008-04-22
Wisely, Mr. Stanyard has followed a different path that Zicree. After a few early chapters on history and analysis of the show, the bulk of the book is taken up by interviews. Over 150 pages of interviews with nearly 40 people involved in the show on various levels, from relatives like Carol and Robert Serling, to writers (Matheson, Hamner, etc.), actors, producers and directors. The last pages are a series of "appreciation essays" written by various people who feel their lives have been impacted by the show as well as speculations by people who knew him of what Rod Serling might have achieved had he lived longer.
Mr. Stanyard has also included a number of interesting photos and a few documents like letters and contracts. Most of the photos are backstage photos from the author's own (inherited) collection. This actually poses a bit of problem. Since the photos Stanyard received cover only a fraction of the episodes, there is a lot of repetition from certain episodes and a whole slew of some very great episodes that have no pictures.
In fact, if I were going to nail down one weakness in the book, it's repetition. Besides the pictures, the interviews also end up being somewhat repetitive as many of the people interviewed have very similar words of praise and descriptions of the show. We're all fans of the show but, with rare exception, the interviews are variations on a theme with not as much enlightenment as I was hoping for.
Still, for a fan of The Twilight Zone this is a difficult book to pass by. There are enough pleasures here to make spending time with this volume worthwhile. For newcomers to the series, I would suggest Zicree's book first.
Second best book on Twilight Zone!!Review Date: 2008-11-08
Now the negative: the history of the series is more of a salute than fact and what little he does feature isn't accurate. His bibliography cites only half a dozen sources and sadly this includes a web-site and Marc Scott Zicree's book which is loaded with errors.
While the author did not do any homework, don't let this book get away from you. Photos and interviews are a must. In short, it is not a perfect companion to consult, but it is a coffee table book.
Only reason I say this is the second best book ever written about Twilight Zone, is because Amazon.com offers the best book. THE TWILIGHT ZONE: UNLOCKING THE DOOR TO A TELEVISION CLASSIC by Martin Grams Jnr. which covers the entire series with 800 plus pages of behind-the-scenes trivia, exclusive interviews with cast and crew and a detail level will exceed anyone's expectation. If you are looking for a book that covers "everything" about the TV series, the Grams book is the one to invest.
Closing comment: Both this is the Grams book floored me. Exceeded my expectations and are worth the purchase price. Only books on Twilight Zone to ever do that and I have every book about Twilight Zone ever written so I know what I am talking about.

Great Travel Guide, Beautiful Coffee Table Book!Review Date: 2002-05-23
Summary:
Every Dorling Kindersley Guide has been a great and interesting book... and delightful to have and use, even if you are not traveling to that location, but are only interested in learning more!
The Guides are well organized in a logical and easy to follow manner. They are beautifully illustrated, well developed with accurate information (it is unusual for hotel and restaurant information to be that accurate), have enough history to help the reader understand the people and cultural background, and have a lot of useful travel information and useable maps in the appendixes.
The really great attraction
to this book is several fold; it is:
............Very complete
............Easy to read
............Beautifully and
artistically completed
............Good shopping, safety and other tips
............Gorgeous photographs too numerous
to list.
Specifics:
The guides are organized as follows:

............Phrase Book
Discussion:
The book begins with "Introducing Amsterdam", including a complete map,
a review, the city's history, and Amsterdam through the Year - including events, etc.
For the specific areas it provides an "At a glance" overview, then has subsections of specific blocks, or sections, then specific locations, churches, historical monuments, bridges, galleries, etc.
Architectural reviews include various views, and cutaways; given greater understanding and better perspective. They are all attractive, if not works of art - honestly.
The travelers' Info. offers good and valid info. on prices, currencies, customs, important words, etc. I used the reviews on hotel's restaurants and nightclubs, etc. and found they were useful and accurate, and helpful with my touring and site decisions
The books are so well thought-out that it has multiple maps, with various lookup tables, and the book's flaps are designed to be used as bookmarks for map pages.
Conclusion:
Each
book in this series is a great help, and beautiful collectible resource. As the President, CEO of an International Meeting
Planning Corporation we have many resources and techniques to learn about places we have meetings / groups at as well as the
cities and sights. But, as a traveler, this book really is top notch and I would recommend it to anyone going on a personal
trip, or wanting to learn about a city, or location. We have used some of these books to augment our research to investigate
cities for our groups.

arranged by veggie for helpful browsingReview Date: 2008-07-29
Because it's arranged alphabetically by vegetable, rather than by style of dish (soup, entree, etc) it's incredibly useful for going to when you have a veggie but aren't sure how you want to use it. For instance, not sure what to do with all the summer squash you're getting from your CSA, your garden, or your neighbor? Find a range of recipes from soups, salad, to entree.
It's helped us numerous times when we've been so tired of a veggie that we're ready to compost it. We find something new to try and it saves the veggies from going to waste.
Lots of stuff for vegetarians or people trying to find interesting non-meat recipes to add to their diet.
Lastly, if you're interested in some local recipes from the Madison, Wisconsin area you can find some in the book!

I've marked, highlighted and dog-earred this book and I continually come back to it as a reference manual as I am publicizing my book RIGHT TO RECOVER: Winning the Political and Religious Wars Over Stem Cell Research in America. With the advice in this book I was able to put together a marketing plan for pre-publication that my publisher is very pleased with.

Absolutely Wonderful How ToReview Date: 2007-04-24
At Last. . . A Roadmap To Success!!!Review Date: 2007-01-13
I have started, built and run several successful industry-specific brick & mortar and internet businesses. I knew I had a story to tell with my first book project. Indeed, the book was picked up by a very reputable New York publisher pretty quickly.
My problem was, what road to take next. I could find bits and pieces of marketing information here and there, but no map. I was anxious and uncomfortable outside my knowledge base... That was, until my publisher gave me a copy of Penny's book to read!
From Book to Bestseller is a complete roadmap. It guides you through the valleys of despair into the world of public relations and marketing in easy-to-understand steps. It will empower you too.

Primarily about marketing through personal appearancesReview Date: 2008-05-14
* Curved quotation marks
* That reviewers will not respect a publisher who calls an ARC an " advanced" reading copy (it should be "advance")
* A better use of white space in the layout--especially, using less of it
* And, that certain tips don't have to be repeated in multiple chapters, because this is a book, not a series of independently published reports
Having gotten all that off my chest: _From Book to Bestseller_ consists of a series of very short, bite-sized chapters, like little reports. Its real strength is its advice on radio and TV appearances, rather than on some other and often very successful marketing methods. There is little information on mailings to consumers, bookstores, and libraries; on the mechanics of writing catalog copy, ad copy, and press releases; or on the use of wholesalers and distributors.
This book makes little attempt to discuss the comparative values of different marketing methods, or on how to analyze whether a given method is working for your particular book. Because an infinite amount of time and money can be spent on marketing, but much of it will not bring results for a given book, this is a significant weakness. _From Book to Bestseller_ sometimes implies that just "getting exposure" automatically sells books. That is not in fact the case.
For example, there is an upbeat chapter on starting a syndicated column. A syndicated column can be a useful revenue stream for a professional journalist. But since it takes substantial time and effort to not only get syndication, but to write column after column after column, it's an exceedingly time-consuming way to just publicize a book. An author can hardly mention his or her book in every column. It is much easier, and just as effective, to do a one-time press release mailing to journalists already writing columns.
I would recommend _From Book to Bestseller_ only to authors and self-publishers who want to market their books primarily through TV, radio, and personal appearances--and who have already done research to determine whether these very time-consuming methods are likely to market their particular book well.

With so many books being published every day (statistic used in the book is 195,000 a year) it is up to the author to find a way to make his book standout from the rest. It is especially true for authors that so not have paid media specialists working for them. This resource guide gives both debut and experienced authors the tools and information to be able to get the word out about their books. The lay out of the book is conducive to easily accessing and processing the information. Large type lets the reader focus on understanding the suggestions, well thought out, complete chapters and sections form a logical progression through all the different stages of promotion. It is extremely thorough in addressing the many facets of book marketing from creating a successful media and press kits, It includes the addresses and contact names for many for radio stations, associated press, reviewers, and tv (even Oprah). Web addresses that cover a wide assortment of needs are also listed throughout the book and under Helpful Web Sites.
Her hints include such interesting information as the best time of year to pitch an idea, the best time of the week to have your book arrive at the reviewer's office and why mass emails are not a good idea. it is the strength of the book that it does cover such ideas that most authors will not have considered. It is truly specialized knowledge. For the simple cost of a book authors receive in depth information they can only get from a professional in the business of marketing and self promotion. Not a bad deal at all.
Although this book was written with authors as the target audience it could also be helpful for anyone beginning to market a new product or or even a new business. Sansevieri has an insiders knowledge about the business of promotion that can be translated into PR for authors or entrepreneurs.
(It is ironic that, with all her expertise, Ms Sanseviei would get her book to a review site she does not include in her book. Oh well- we can assume she will rectify that and add Front Street Reviews in future editions.)

A Roadmap for the Journey into Emotional IntelligenceReview Date: 2005-12-30
The book is filled with inspiring and motivational quotations that set the pace for each chapter. I especially liked the succinct chapter summaries.
Each chapter includes thought provoking exercises in the form of a Personal Emotional Intelligence Journal, Self Motivational Assessments, and Inter Personal Assignments. These exercises are stimulating and an important part in the process of applying the principles of self actualization and becoming an authentic individual.
The book is a guidebook for discovering self assessment techniques, understanding in relationships, and new skills in managing others. The work is scholarly, well researched, and well documented, with extensive appendices. The bibliography provides a complete and helpful resource list.
I highly recommend this book for the professional business leader, or the lay person interested in strengthening and broadening of social, family, and parental relationships. The book can be used as a classroom text, a small group study guide, or for individuals seeking encouragement.
The layout of the book is unique. The clean cover design and appealing page and chapter set up make this an excellent gift for any serious motivational student.
