Amazon advertised the latest, 2008 version of A Guidebook of US Coins, copywrite 2007, which I purchased. Two weeks later Amazon advertises the 2009 version. I firmly believe Amazon owes me the 2009 version & I go on record for such.

I ordered three books to give to clients as gifts. After I had ordered them I wondered if they would make it on time. They were here early. The books were exactly as described, brand new. The price was the cheapest on the net. The shipping was free. This product and service really deserve a 10.

This is the book I read in bed at night while planning my next bike ride. Most of the rides you can make your way with no map. I like to try to follow the hand drawn maps. I like weird challenges though.

However, for longer rides don't rely on the maps from any guide book. Get topo maps and a compass (or gps). Ray recommends when to bring a compass and map. Buy this book and follow Ray's advice. Enjoy.

Well organized by city, this book provides great usable maps for trail-finding and sets expectations appropriately for each trail experience. Latest edition adds some new trails and accurately reflects the changing trail landscape in Phoenix due to continued land development.

I'm a Flagstaff native and now living in Tucson. I STILL use this guide and carry it like a bible... it is, hands down, the best trail guide I've found. The information is presented in a clear and consise manner, with humor and great illustrations. When Cosmic Ray says that you will most likely ask "This is a trail???" (ie Airport Loop in Sedona) he is correct. Yes the maps may *seem* playful and rough, but they ARE spot-on... don't let them fool you.

As with ANY riding in Arizona... come prepared. Plenty of water, tools, extra tubes (did I mention extra tubes?) and Cosmic Rays.

This is my 6th copy of Cosmic Ray's Trail guide. I tend to give copies to friends headed to Arizona for Bike vacations.

For me, Ray's trail guides have been a wonderful blend of humor and useful information. The trail descriptions have been very accurate and always includes additional information or some nice tips.

In numerous trips to Arizona, I've riden most of the trails mentioned in Flagstaff, Sedona, Phoenix and Tucson. My trail experiances have always accurately matched Ray's description.

If you are looking for a boring technical manual or something for GPS navigation, this book is not for you. This book is really about fun and enjoying some great new trails. Ray's descriptions will give you more than enough information to experience the trail for yourself.

Every time I return to Arizona, I pickup the latest version. This is the Arizona trail bible.

For what it's worth, you also need Topo's, good equipment and supplies. On the trail, things can happen and you need to be prepared.

I am sorry Mr. Rawlins got lost, but keep in mind that my cartoony maps are traced from topos. They are to scale, oriented north and include many details and tips not found on topo maps. He says he got lost on every ride. Interesting. That's not what I hear from other riders. In fact, many, if not most of the rides in my book are SIGNED. Mr. Rawlins must not be paying attention. About "Rating The Rides". It is not possible to rate rides to satasfy every rider. Riders vary greatly in ability. On page 3 of my book there is an entire page devoted to "Rating The Rides" explaining exactly how I arrive at the ratings. Mr. Rawlins should try reading the book he is reviewing.

This is a serious book with some counter-intuitive conclusions. Logical, easy to read and based on a solid theoretical foundation - I recommend "chinese tao" heartily. At a minimum it will force you to think -- at its best it should bring about a serious retructuring of what it means for us to do business in China, and vice versa.

Very timely book with contrarian perspective

So you are doing business in China and are spinning your wheels. You've read the culture and etiquette books and the ones on market potential. STOP! Read no further until you read the Chinese Tao. This unassuming (though not little) book packs a punch. If you want to make money in China as a private business, everything is conspiring you -- history, culture, laws and managers -- and mastering them, or atleast anticipating the punches, is key to success in China. A thoroughly enjoyable book, and Usha and George display wry humor through the sometimes weighty material. Recommended reading!

Well-written book which cuts wide swathe

Review Date: 2006-04-15
I found this book very well-written, full of anecdotes and personal nuggets as well as statistical backing. In sum, it explained for me the contradictions, opportunities and pitfalls behind the "China miracle". I have read several books on China and I recommend this one over the rest.

A book of this kind is very difficult to write, as the authors chose to incorporate history, culture, modern business practices and the law (among other things!) to explain business success and failure in China. However, depsite their tall task, they did a good job. I especially liked the historical and political grounding combined with really fabulous personal interviews with CEOs. Some of the stories were fun (the golf story with Li Ka-Shing) and some were insightful (Pan Shi Yi's rise). I found the chapter on legal affairs in China useful but heavy going. However, regulatory risk is a big component of operating in China (just ask all those companies that have lost their patents there) and there is probably no "fun" way of communicating this. The authors' insights and recommendations were very useful.

This book should be read carefully and digested. I certainly do not advocate an overnight read (300+ pages!) but some chapters must absolutely be read before foriegners go to China -- and I think before the Chinese go abroad. George and Usha Haley have cut behind the hyperbole to reveal some very disturbing truths about this super power and the global business environment which it has changed for ever. More importantly, they have given us some ammunition to help us to control our destinies in this brave new world. A must read!

Dry textbook approach

I found some information useful and interesting. However, what was disappointing was the stilted writing of the authors. I often got the impression that they were too repetitive and presented the work as if it were an instructional manual. Also, there was the feeling that the book was edited in a cut and paste format. Overall, there were interesting anecdotes, but this book will never be a THE reference for foreigners trying establish businesses in China.

This is an excellent book, but there are a couple of drawbacks. First, and most annoying, is the ordering of the herbs by scientific name. Makes it hard to find the herb you're looking for. Second, it's a large book, takes up a lot of space on the table and doesn't fit on all shelves.

It has served me well enough, but I recently came across Your Backyard Herb Garden: A Gardener's Guide to Growing Over 50 Herbs Plus How to Use Them in Cooking, Crafts, Companion Planting and More and I have to say this is the book I would pick up instead, in retrospect. I may even buy it anyway. It's small, has all the reference information in this one (and then some), and more readily available.

Superb general herbal (minimal gardening how-to)

This is a simply marvelous book. It is a mystery to me why it is not continuously in print. Do not hesitate to buy this used from Amazon Marketplace sellers, as I did.

The book is large and beautifully fashioned and produced, with gorgeous full-color photographs not only of each herb, but of dozens of different species of each herb, and of every possible use to which herbs can be put. There are full-color pictures of crafts, teas, household items, massage how-to illustrations, dyes--to say nothing of prepared food dishes; this is actually a cookbook within an herbal!

ONE CAVEAT: if you are looking for an in-depth gardening how-to, with exhaustive planting info, you might want a supplement for this book, which sticks to the basics. But every other herb-related topic is embellished and elaborated on. There are dozens of pages with full-color, labeled illustrations of different "theme" gardens you can plan. Whole chapters EACH on potpurri, herbal cosmetics, dyes, medicines, and household cleaners. Fabulous, unique homemade gift items like herbal-scented beads--that's right, painted beads made entirely out of herbs and plants!

The food/cooking section alone is worth the price of the book. The dishes are fantastic. I have already made the Sweet Rosemary Slices and several teas and drinks, and they are wonderful. Almost every recipe has a full-color photo.

I could go on and on, but rather than waste your time, I will leave you to hit "Add To Shopping Cart."

Money has rarely been this well-spent.

The book is OK. Photos are not all that great (some blurry and out of focus, obviously amature). Most of the dolls are modern and mass produced. I was hoping that there would be more artist creations, one of a kinds, limited editions, and antiques. Instead there are a bunch of plastic/vinyl manufactured dolls with just a few quality pieces sprinkled in. I only recommend this if you collect that style of doll (manufactured/mass-produced).

I must confess that initially, I looked through it four times on the day it arrived. It's fun seeing how many of the pictured dolls I have in my own collection!

This is a difficult review to write, because if my grammar, usage or punctuation is faulty (as it so often is ... or do I mean as they so often are?), it may occur to readers that the book couldn't have been all THAT useful. The book is so well worth a review, however, that I decided to take the risk. I think that anyone who is interested in clear and effective writing will enjoy Mignon Fogarty's tips.

The book includes so much information that each reader will probably find a few tips that seem elementary (can anyone really be having trouble with set vs. sit?), a few tips that solve long-standing problems (may I use "they" as a singular pronoun if the circumstances are right?), and a few tips that bring a blush of shame (why, why, why have I been using all those dashes incorrectly for all these years?).

Improving the quality of the written word is surely a worthy goal, and Grammar Girl's guide gives solid information in an entertaining way. The book is also blessedly free of the snide tone that seems to occasionally overcome other experts in this field.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the English language and aspires to become a better writer.

I was able to pick up a copy at the local Borders and have been thumbing through it for the last few weeks. I really like this book.

When I'm writing an email, a blog post, or anything else for that matter, I want to know I'm doing it correctly. There's nothing worse than publishing something thinking everything is as it should be only to find out much later that you were using lay vs. lie incorrectly.

Grammar Girl's book offers easy-to-digest mnemonics that help you keep the confusing bits of grammar straight.

I'd give it 10 stars, but there were only 5 available. =)

I had great expectations for this book, since my (3-year-old) son loves Slinky Malinki so much that he can recite virtually the entire book. Our family found this one rather disappointing. There is very little story, and the word choice is not nearly as colorful as in Slinky Malinki. Still, my son does enjoy this one, although I suspect it won't hold his attention as long as Slinky, since it's so much simpler. Now that I know this is one of Lynley Dodd's early books, I understand that better. It's probably best for a slightly younger child (right around 2) who loves dogs.

The vocabulary Dodd uses is creative and intelligent, and leads to great conversations with kids. The books rhyme and remind me of Dr. Seuss without the nonsense words.

You won't be disappointed with Dodd's books.

I love this book. I won this book as a readathon prize 20 years ago when I was seven. I think the target audience for this book is probably more likely to be kids aged 3-6. It was a definite favorite of my little brother's - he learnt the words off by heart before he could read. It is also a favorite of my nieces and nephews, and I have just ordered one for my baby who is due any day now. The really fantastic thing about this book is that it is actually a fun read for adults too - If my nieces ask me to read them a book I always grab a Hairy Maclary. They are just the right length, and have enough of a storyline to keep you entertained as well.

For the past year we have been focused on the Kaizen approach to process improvement; that is the focus on the outside consulting firm that we chose several years ago. Sustaining change, measurement, and ownership of improvements might actually be regressing. While not giving a roadmap to success, this text affirms the missteps that we are experiencing and it has motivated me to take a broader, less event-focused approach. This would not be a strong text for the professional consultant, but for the leader attempting to assimilate change in a corporate culture and for someone who's been standing on the roadside with their 'lean' thumb out and wondering why no one will stop this provides a good review and simple checklist approach. My outside consultants will regret that I read this book.

Allthough the book is fairly short and a fast read in that I think it makes great job in really explaining the thinking behind lean. There are practically no focus on specific application of tools. And that is not a bad thing. Lean suffers from too tool based approach and I think that this book should be on a reading list before tool specific books (not saying that they don't have their place also).

I'm a therapist and feminist who knows first-hand the suffering some women voluntarily subject themselves to at the hands of selfish and narcissistic men who have an unhealthy vendetta that they project on kind-hearted women. So when a client of mine brought this book to me, written by two, dare I say it, men, I had my doubts. What do men know about issues of the feminine domain, like the emotional pain of a breakup. The male tendency is to control and subjugate. So with low expectations and admittedly high prejudices, I held my nose and read it. After the third page, I stopped holding my nose and, was mesmerized. I could not believe this was written by men. The sensitivity, effort and imagination is like nothing I've ever experienced in a book. My favorite element of this book was that of 'aha' moments. About half-way through when I was reading about remembrance, I realized that a lot of my own male-bashing issues stemmed from the fact that my father was killed in the Gulf war 17 years ago when I was 13. I was so devastated and broken-hearted, of course but suddenly, I realized I was angry at him as well. A cold chill swept through my body when at 29 years-old, I finally realized that my ultra-feminism/projected anger at men stemmed from the anger at my dad for dying. Seems like a simple case of abandonment..but not to me. I was far too angry at men to see the simple roots of my self-imposed barriers to my own happiness in relationships. I've waited for about a year to mention anything about this book but when I saw a recent very hurtful diatribe against this book, I said to myself. "I made my dad pay for dying in defense of our country and living his ideals. This time I have an opportunity to support a book and the two decent men who wrote it." 'Heart' is an invaluable contribution not just because of the excellent and often instantly liberating content, but because it reveals the best of the loving hearts of men. The dad I never knew, I now know because of these dads.

I relied on someone else's review when I decided to purchase this book, and I'm very glad I did. The authors don't sugarcoat the whole breakup experience, but they do offer realistic ideas on how to approach each day and mark progress. They don't demonize the other party, which is helpful, and similarly, they don't idealize what led to the split. I found myself looking forward to reading each day's blurb and contemplating the associated exercises. While I am still very sad about my breakup, I know there are better days ahead, and that having spent the time following the heartache constructively analyzing myself and the circumstances will prove beneficial down the road. If you are in a similar situation of feeling overwhelmed by a recent breakup, I highly recommend this book. And good luck to you.

My sister got me this book after my girlfriend of 4 years and I broke up. Thanks, sis! I found it to be a helpful way to occupy those newfound and oftentimes unwelcome free hours that accompany the loss of a loving relationship. The book discusses various emotions associated with the loss of a relationship and offers insight on how to deal with them. For each topic discussed, there are practical suggestions on generating the healthy perspective necessary to move on and become a happy person after a break-up. It's been a few months since I got the book, and I can definitely look back and know it helped me think about a lot of difficult things. After a few months, I feel a lot better and have a much better outlook on what a healthy relationship is and how that wasn't what I had.

I thought this would be an easy read. Boy, was I wrong. Well, it *was* easy to read because it is very clearly written, and very direct and focused. It took me longer than expected to read because the SUBSTANCE of the book is so compelling. The chapters and exercises really hit home and provoke a lot of contemplation and action. I have already ordered a copy for a friend and highly recommend this book to anyone who has either recently lost a love relationship, or who hasn't really recovered from the hurts of one or more past relationships, recent or not so recent. This book basically says, YOU are in charge. YOU do the work. YOU need to recognize where you are and what you CAN do about it. This book does not permit you to wallow unnecessarily in the stages of grief but instead encourages you to recognize what IS and what ISN'T and to CHOOSE to deal with your situation constructively and actively. Spot-on!
