I loved reading every word!Review Date: 2008-09-25
I am not gay, and I felt like I related to the story so much. It made me think about spirituality, religion, today's crisis with HIV, friendship and the need of companionship in the human world. Also I observed how the characters, as each of us, have their own perceptions about "reality" and the need to identify with a culture, a religion, a place in the world.
I truly recommend this book to anyone, anywhere.
Exotic as it is thought-provokingReview Date: 2008-08-15
Don't let the cover fool you, "KHALIL & MAJNUN: A MEMOIR" is not a "For Gays Only Book" - au contraire! I, as a heterosexual woman and writer, utterly enjoyed the witty style of multiple-talent author Rahal X. and can well relate to his personal quest seeking love and the truth, which after all are universal themes. Sensuality and spirituality get mixed up in a healthy and harmonious way, even though to some more conservative souls this might be a slightly unorthodox approach. With humor Rahal brings across his authentic reality in a convincing and very touching manner. The book by itself is a marvel - one of those you want to re-read again - but that the author decided to go multi-media with original music, visuals and written material on the publisher's website is indeed another wonderful and exciting treat. It gives the reader the idea that this is a magic book without an end. The book is a "must" for all those interested in multi-cultural issues, identity and traveling. Read it and enjoy!

Great Book, Helps to Really Understand MalcolmReview Date: 2005-12-22
This book aims to prove that Malcolm was setting an anti-imperialist path, and internationalist path, an anti-capitalist path, a truly revolutionary and truly dangerous (for the ruling classes) path.
I think the book proves it, and I respect Malcolm all the more for it.
This book also contains criticisms of Malcolm by various people, notably some liberals, and so it's good to get an idea of where people stood, who was really afraid of Malcolm and what he was really starting to represent.
Great malcolmReview Date: 2004-07-02
It dispels the idea of Malcolm just being a racist anti Semite, how he was portrayed by the media during and after his life, but installs the belief that he was a revolutionary fighting for the human rights of all, and nothing could more truthful.

New Expanded edition is now out from PathfinderReview Date: 2003-03-06
This new edition includes 43 more pages than the previous edition, with the complete text of Malcolm's Speech at Oxford and a more complete text of his speech at the London School of Economics. The expanded introduction together with Jack Barnes' "He spoke the truth to our generation of revolutionists," a memorial speech for Malcolm given in March 5, 1965, provides an excellent short introduction to Malcolm's life and ideas.
There is a six-page index, eight pages of notes, as well as an expanded photo display of 17 pages including Malcolm X with students and young people from Tanzania to Alabama, including a picture of Fidel Castro and Malcolm X smiling together in Harlem in 1960 when they were both still young!
This edition of Malcolm X Speaks to Young People is being produced together with a first-ever Spanish-language edition, entitled Malcolm X habla a la juventud, which is being released simultaneously by Pathfinder Press and by Casa Editora Abril, the publishing house of the Union of Young Communists in Cuba.
While this book may not be directly available from Amazon at times, they are available from the booksfrompathfinder on Amazon that you can find by clicking on the new and used books on this page.
Malcolm X: the internationalistReview Date: 2002-02-16
"I just try to face the fact as it actually is and come to this meeting as one of the victims of America, one of the victims of Americanism, one of the victims of democracy, one of the victims of a very hypocritical system that is going all over this earth today representing itself as being qualified to tell other people how to run their country when they can't get the dirty things that are going on in their own country straightened out," he told students at the University of Ghana, May 13, 1964.

Some excerptsReview Date: 2005-03-26
"The young generation of whites, Blacks, browns, whatever else there is -- you're living at ... a time of revolution, a time when there's got to be a change.... And I for one will join in with anyone, I don't care what color you are, as long as you want to change this miserable condition that exists on this earth."
"It is the teenagers ... all over the world, who are actually involving themselves in the struggle to eliminate oppression and exploitation.... The young people are the ones who most quickly identify with the struggle and the necessity to eliminate the evil conditions that exist."
"In America the Black community in which we live is not owned by us. The landlord is white. The merchant is white. . . . And these are the people who suck the economic blood of our community."
"We are not for violence in any shape or form, but believe that the people who have violence committed against them should be able to defend themselves.... I have never said that the Negroes should initiate acts of aggression against whites, but where the government fails to protect the Negro he is entitled to do it himself."
[In Africa] "I'm from America but I'm not an American. I didn't go there of my own free choice.... [I am] one of the victims of Americanism, ... one of the victims of a very hypocritical system that is going all over this earth today representing itself as being qualified to tell other people how to run their country when they can't get the dirty things that are going on in their own country straightened out."
[In Africa] "When we find a Black man who's always receiving the praise of the Americans, we become suspicious of him.... Because it has been our experience that the Americans don't praise any Black man who is really working for the benefit of the Black man."
"It is impossible for capitalism to survive, primarily because the system of capitalism needs some blood to suck. Capitalism used to be like an eagle, but now it's more like a vulture. It used to be strong enough to go and suck anybody's blood whether they were strong or not. But now it has become more cowardly, like the vulture, and it can only suck the blood of the helpless."
I recommend the ads in the back of the book. Pathfinder Press is defined by a political goal, not commercial success. It aims to provide a platform for revolutionary leaders speaking in their own words. If you like one book, you will probably like others.

Three Silly Chicks ReviewReview Date: 2008-11-15
On one very busy day, Natalie & Naughtily are kindly asked by their parents not to play in the store. So the intrepid girls decide that they will "help" instead. As the girls go from floor to floor finding ways to help -- such as spritzing everyone with Mischief #5 in the perfume department -- two boys simultaneously tour the store using Natalie's floor-by-floor list of favorites and Naughtily's hilariously drawn map. In addition, six silly pooches have their own bit of fun as the make their way through the store. Vincent X. Kirsch's gorgeously detailed illustrations provide a delicious hide-and-seek game for readers as they try to follow all four kids and all six pooches throughout this whimsical romp of a book.
Natalie & NaughtilyReview Date: 2008-10-25
Kirsch's unique illustration style appears both effortless and mind-bogglingly complex. He packs each page with so many delicious details and small strokes of artistic genius, readers will be sure to uncover new surprises and delights with every re-reading. His vision is so fully developed and unique, it makes you wonder where he has been hiding all these years. Surely he must have closets stuffed with antique maps, tap shoes, Tuscan sketch books, puppets, screenplays, and dapper vintage suits. Let us hope we soon see more of what springs from his playful pen.

A Hilarious and Scary Parody of Pat the BunnyReview Date: 2003-09-05
Simply put, it uses Pat the Bunny-style illustrations and rhymes to show the differences between two generations. One is monied and affluent while the new generation has much bleaker prospects (remember to give the money back after you pat it).
Everyone I have shown this too has laughed out loud. You probably will too. Check it out.

THE place to start for the new WebObjects Developer...Review Date: 2003-09-23
However, for a Java developer (the book doesn't pretend to teach you Java) who is new to WebObjects, those first 11 chapters are a a godsend, filled with well-written text containing a huge amount of practical advice and illustrated with extensive screenshots. Reading this book and doing the exercises will save you literally dozens if not hundreds of hours of "doing it the hard way."
Chapters 12 and 13, on the other hand, are filled with bits and pieces that are NOT easy (or sometimes possible) to get from the official documentation and can only be learned by finding a more experienced developer to mentor you. For me, these two chapters were worth the price, and for a computer programming book, the price is quite reasonable.
A big thumbs up for this book as an introductory WebObjects tome, and here's to hoping that some publisher will contract Mr. Marker to write a follow-up "Advanced WebObjects for Mac OS X" because I'll be first in line to buy that one.

Worth your moneyReview Date: 2001-12-18
never believed an Eastern writer could cover so many
fields that actually are the interests of the western
people.
I believe the writer has done a great deal of reading
and research prior to and/or during his writing of
the book which he mentioned he had taken 4 years to
complete.
As for comments on what are all about in the X-Codes,
I have found most of them are already adddressed by
prior reviewers.
My only
comment is that it's worth your money to read
this book.

Buy "X-Codes" Immediately! Simply Brilliant...A Must-Read!Review Date: 1999-05-16
Mr. Hoy intelligently discusses cosmic harmony...the influence of extraterrestrial bodies via four fundamental forces; gravitational, electromagnetic, weak nuclear and strong nuclear. We learn that these encode our genes, and therefore affect human nature and behaviors.
This reviewer believes that the insight and loving kindness found in The X-Codes are the result of Mr. Hoy's growth and ability to discern his true and higher Self...the mission we all have. Indeed, how to achieve it is the stated purpose of this provocative work.
The X-Codes delves into not only genetic coding, but also reconwaves (the emanations from the solar system), astrology, reincarnation...and physical death. We learn of the very real possibility that, as the Sun, Moon and Planets matured and thus did their emanations), so did we. Wouldn't this account for the disappearance of, say, dinosaurs?
The X-Codes is a splendid marriage of science and spirituality. Francis Hoy has given us a thoughtful and remarkable presentation that ranges from creation to demise...and an insight of the greater divine mission that follows.
This reviewer recommends The X-Codes to everyone with an astrological bent who is interested in the evolution of humankind, and the interplay of celestial forces that still direct our destinies!
