Best premillenial presentation of Daniel

I have persued the study of the book of Daniel for 20 years, of all the commentaries I have read this one is the best. The author is a careful exegete and shows considerable evenhandedness in discussing some of the tough issues in the book. The author holds to a 5'th century date and sees the fouth kingdom as Rome. Wood deals with the greek words for the musical insturments and also answers modern critics,(though not as well as Josh McDowell) The only volume that even comes close to this one from a premillineal perspective is Walvoord's book. Chapter nine is well done and clear using Andersons dating. For a fuller presentation of the premellinal position Culver's work is great. This is one of the best overall! The other authors that deserve a place on your shelf are; Walvoord,Robert Dick Wilson,D.J.Wiseman,Wooley,Whitcomb. And of course Wood.

This is an excellent, theologically conservative, commentary on the Book of Daniel. He clearly and persuasively explains the relationship between historical events and the prophetic passages. He does a good job explaining the likely significance of the prophecies not yet fulfilled.

Mary Duke Guldan shows you how to get started carving without spending a lot of money. She suggests you begin with an affordable exacto type knife and a simple coping saw. Her patterns are wonderful and she even suggests ways to change and alter them to suit a variety of purposes. I recommend all of her books. Members of my woodcarving class study her books and use her patterns. I particularly like her Carving Animals book. I've just finished carving her cougar and it looks terrific!

Appealing and Authoritative Book about Japanese Print Master

Review Date: 2001-03-21
Steeped in traditional Japanese culture and trained early in Western art techniques, Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) combined these two sensibilities to revive and renew the ancient art of Japanese woodblock printing on the verge of its disappearance as Japan embraced modernization at the beginning of the 20th century. This book is a comprehensive introduction for those new to Yoshida's work, and a valuable aid to the sophisticated print collector. Excellent color reproductions of 259 woodblock prints plus 20 works in other media shine in a generous and uncluttered format that encourages leisurely enjoyment of each masterpiece. The cosmopolitan Yoshida recorded his travels in India, China, Korea and the United States in his art. A passionate mountaineer, Yoshida translated sketches from his climbing expeditions into stunning prints, in such series as "Twelve Scenes in the Japan Alps." He also captured scenes of Japan's disappearing traditional life in evocative prints such as "Honest Grocery", "A Small Restaurant at Night" and "Farmhouse." In perhaps his greatest works, Yoshida combines his skill in rendering both the monumental and the domestic to show that human existence is at once small and precious. He uses vast mountain landscapes as backdrops for intimate groups of climbers gathered around evening fires or sheltered in tents or caves as they sing and tell stories. Text and captions are in both English and Japanese. Inclusions of full margins on each print reproduction permits study of Japanese and English titles, signatures, dates and seals. A chronological survey of the prints, an illustrated artistic and personal biography, memoirs by Yoshida's artist sons and short essays on Yoshida's career round out this lovely book.

One heck of a book! It tells you everything you need to know. The "Concept Cars" book gives you tons of information on the classic, modern, and future concept cars. Each time you turn the page, its a different car. This book explains everything that you need to know, like how fast, or the car's history, it even tells you size, and seating positions, this book even tells you what the car's body is made up of. Like I said, there is everything there is to know about these cars in this book. I recomend this book because it gives alot of information, and also because I enjoy reading about cars. There is a total of 94 pages with many pictures and information. Read this book and you'll be one happy customer!

Concept Cars is an exceptional book! The cars are stunning. The book includes cars like a Dodge Copperhead, a Chrysler Atlantic, a Smart Car, and many other awesome vehicles. Concept Cars has interesting facts to offer and cars that you probably couldn't have dreamed of. If you want some information on some really radical cars, this is the book that you want to read! If you don't want to spend a lot for the real car, this is the next best thing!

Zen and the Art of ...

I'm a non-professional -- call me a tinkerer -- who likes to paint: furniture, walls, inside, outside, you name it. I also like to do a good job and sometimes that's tough for an amateur. But then I found this book. It is a veritable dictionary of painting advice and trouble-shooting tips, from how to prepare old wood for painting to how to protect your fingertips as you move into the hypnotic world of a big sanding job; from discussion of stains, dyes, glazes and penetrating oils to how to paint a new fence and preserve the wood. But the real bonus for me is the writing: in a "How-To" book, Fallarino has smoothly inserted anecdotes, aphorisms, and tales of woe and triumph from his own early days as a painter that keep you reading. The result is a "Zen" feeling - a sense of the organic relationship of a worker to the work - familiar to anyone who's ever slipped into the rhythm of rolling long rows of color onto pristine walls or watched a surprising grain pattern emerge under just the right finish. Any down-side to this book? Yes. You could get so involved reading it you let your brushes dry. Of course, if you do, Fallarino tells you how to fix that, too.

Well written. Accessible information and case studies.

I became aware of this book because I worked on the design and production of it. However, as a homeowner who has puzzled over differences between paint and stain, wondered whether I was doing a proper job and how long the finish should last, I was delighted to discover a book that held answers to all my questions, and then some. I would recommend this book to any homeowner, whether you plan to do-it-yourself or hire someone to finish your wood. The information is accessible to the layperson. The case studies illustrate well the problems you may encounter and how to solve them. Five stars!

David Woods first learned to cook at the age of 12. He found that he not only liked it, he had a flair for developing original and creative recipes of his own and did so as a life-long hobby. In Cooking With Bananas we find that bananas have a lot more going for them than just being sliced up on our morning cereal, split along side scoops of ice cream, or made into banana bread! Indeed, Cooking With Bananas features wealth of enthusiastically recommended, banana oriented recipes well suited for breakfast and brunch; drinks, shakes and punches; soups, salads, and sandwiches; main dishes and side dishes, breads; desserts; treats for kids of all ages; even salsas, sauces, and jams! If I ever get stranded on an island covered with banana plants, I hope I have a copy of this book with me! David has covered the complete possibilities of the banana in "Cooking With Bananas". Call me conservative but I'll likely stick to the bread and dessert sections. However, for the more daring there are such dishes as Chicken and Banana Casserole, Banana Citrus Seafood Stew and Tropical Fruit Stir fry.

I don't know if Elvis preferred mayonnaise on his "Nanna" sandwiches or not, but David offers a recipe for one. My kids are very interested in the sweets section, including the Banana Nut Pops and Frozen Chocolate Bananas. Whatever gets them to eat more fruit is fine with me!

David has been kind enough to give us a little introduction to this versatile fruit, with nutrition values and choices of varieties available. I love David's cookbooks. They offer a new look at staple foods, with a unique twist. The occasional typo, here and there, only adds to the charm of these titles. Have fun with your food!

This book is a study of the tactics that gay men use to keep their sexual orientation hidden from their (often homophobic) co-workers. It scares me how accurate it is. Let me give you an example, I once had a male teacher who said, "I was once going out with this woman who blah, blah, blah." Well, many straight people would think, "Okay, girlfriend equals straight." But a critical reader would see that the man said, "Once!" Many openly gay men used to date women. This book mentions tactics like acting weird so that co-workers just dismiss you as asexual, emphasizing your love of sports in order to hide the fact that you're not involved with a woman, being so liberal that when you mention gay rights co-workers think you are a leftist rather than gay, etc. If straight people read this book, gay men would never be able to hide. This book was both a gift and a weapon. Some have critiqued it asking why anyone would want to study, and subconsciously encourage, men to be closeted. However, this book does talk to men about their being out in the workplace and how they did it. We need more studies like this. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. However, it could be incredibly dangerous if placed in the wrong hands.

This is one of the best and most passionate romance books I have read so far. I like it because of the facts in the story. It tells us what happens when people gamble. The consequences of such actions. This book is based on Jemma whose brother Brian and sister-in-law Luisa die in a car accident. Luisa's cousin, an Italian Count, Vittorio, claims that he know owns Jemma and that he wants her to work for him in Italy. She has to agree. BUT Vittorio is VERY attracted to Jemma, and now that he owns her....... The thing is that you really can't tell that the hero is in love with the heroine because of his sudden mood changes and his cruelty towards her. Sure you can tell that he's marked her as his next pillow friend and that he get's very jealous when she mention's other men, but you can't tell that he loves her.

This book starts out about a couple, Karen, and Caleb Hanson, who are in the Black, as far as financially. Karen's friends, The Calamity Janes, send her brochures of far away places to go, and one day she goes and talks to them, and her husband has a heart attack, and dies. All the while, Grady Blackhawk, according to the Hansons, is bad news, he has wanted the Hanson spread for years. In the months following Caleb's death, Grady persists in telling Karen to sell to him. She blatantly refuses him, numerous times. Then things get exciting. Parts of the pasture fence come up destroyed, Karen's prize bull comes up shot, her house burns down. All the while, Grady is there for her, she tells him to go away, to leave her alone, and so do The Calamity Janes, but he doesn't. They eventually start to trust eachother. Grady helps her out in her times of need. Helps her realize that it was not him that sabatoged her place each time. They share an intimate moment, and the rest is up to your imagination. Enjoy. :)

In the second novel of The Calamity Jane miniseries, Widow Karen Hason has two things she can count on. She has terrific friends among the friends who refer to themselves as the Calamity Janes, and Grady Blackhawk will continue to pester her until she sells him the land he wants. As everything seems to conspire to change her opinion of Grady, Karen clings ever more tenaciously to her late husband's warnings against Grady. Even as her friends comment that she tends to give everyone a second chance; everyone, that is, except Grady, despite he offers of help around the ranch.

Grady Blackhawk descends from the Native Americans who lived upon this Wyoming land before white settlers usurped their claims to the land. Now Grady's determined to gain ownership in the memory of his ancestors. Unfortunately, Karen's husband had been equally determined to keep the land from Grady's hands, and passed that legacy to his wife Karen. She denies Grady's claims that her husband was "an unreasonable man, one who twisted the facts to suit himself." She also would like to deny the passionate attraction that grows between herself and Grady.

Grady simply shows up at the ranch one day with supplies, and begins scraping old paint from the barn in preparation of new paint. He figures that his time and monitory contribution are really an investment because the upkeep is desperately needed, and the land and buildings will eventually be his anyway. Grady makes her a deal. If she will get know him and spend time with him, then he will walk away if she still thinks that he is a scoundrel and a thief. If he proves otherwise, then she agrees to sell him the ranch and goes to fulfill her dream of world travel. But as Grady gets to know her, he realizes her land is in danger from someone other than himself. Poisoned animals, fire and vandalism raise the stakes as he works to improve her property.

Author Sherryl Woods gracefully moves fans of her new miniseries into the second installment even as she prepares for the subsequent books. COURTING THE ENEMY reads equally well as a single title, or as part of the series. The strength of characterizations and tight plotting lend COURTING THE ENEMY remarkable depth. In addition, the secondary characters also sparkle, adding notes of humor and tension. Fans will look forward to the third installment of this miniseries, September 2001 release TO CATCH A THIEF. Highly recommended.
