Written by expert trophy bowhunter Steve Bartylla, Bowhunting Tactics That Deliver Trophies lives up to its title with its singularly impressive collection of whitetail bowhunting strategies. From how to read aerial photos and contour maps to figure out where mature bucks hide, to maximizing one's time while hunting on public land, to weather scent tactics, and much more, Bowhunting Tactics That Deliver Trophies is a thoroughly accessible reference and resource for bowhunters of all skill and experience levels. In an era when most hunters kill with guns, Bowhunting Tactics That Deliver Trophies is a welcome guide to help hunters connect with the weaponry of an earlier age.

Very informative and the plain truth. Bartylla is one of the best writers on whitetail bowhunting I have read. His books and Eberharts books are top notch. They cover hunting on public lands, which most of the other writers leave out. Whitetail bucks on public lands are more skittish and wise from the hunting pressure they have endured. Therefore hunting them is the greatest challenge. Steve Bartylla covers the things that have worked for him to take this elusive monarch. Great book!

I recommend this little book. The author was inspired by Angels who live in a realm where human pain and hardship have been transcended. It was first published in 1927, and was one of the earliest books that gave insights into the lives of the Angels from the clairvoyant New Age style approach. The words in this book are poetic and just beautiful. They are still as fresh as if written yesterday. There are messages with insights from the Angels, and also methods for cooperating with them. I can't resist quoting a passage from this book, and you will see from this how positive a work it is:-

"Uplift the women of your race till all are seen as queens, and to such queens let every man be as a king, that each may honour each, seeing the other's royalty. Let every home, however small, become a court, every son a knight, every child a page. Let all treat all with chivalry, honouring in each their royal parentage, their kingly birth; for there is royal blood in every man; all are the children of the KING."

Right on the Money!

We moved to Japan 6 years ago with only a vague understanding of Japanese political-economy. We ran across Christopher Wood's book at a local bookstore. It was fascinating and has proved to be an astoundingly accurate depiction foretelling the events of today. I picked the book up again today and concluded that, short of having a crystal ball, this guy had to have been the lone voice of common sense and sound reason on the planet at the time he wrote this book. People must have regarded him as an oddity at the time. One wonders where he is now and what he is doing.

Highly recommended reading on Japan's economic plight.

Let's face it, many of the "Japan experts" have totally missed the boat. Mr. Wood's book, published in 1992, was "right on the money" and predicted Japan's current economic plight (although underestimating abit the time it would take to get there). This book provides readers with valuable insights into how the Japanese political economy functions (and doesn't function). By focusing on fundamentals, particularly the banking system, Mr. Wood provides the reader with a framework for analyzing the daily tidbits of information coming out in the press.

Having the book's billionare Robin Wood media guru and his Buffalo friends scam for a good cause, is a delightful read.

If you take a deep breath and read all the way through the rousing Joycean-length sentences, you will find connections that may astound you.

David Woods takes a look at a huge umbrella for all religions' ways of worshipping God/god/gods for the 21st century.

He has done an outstanding job of making us aware!

I hope you take the time to enjoy "Buffalo Snow Day". You will find it fun!

I'd be hard pressed to find a book to compare this to. A totally unique writer in a world of rip offs. Frantic, funny and out of control, this writer's style is like a breath of fresh air. His work reads like a huricane of prose, poking fun at and at the same time praising all that Buffalo NY is, was and could be. Don't expect it all to connect just enjoy the ride!

I was wondering what could possibly be better than the first book.
Well, this is it! Thanks. The diverse experiences, solutions,
repairs, ideas and generally useful updates make this a much better
book. The first one was a classic, and this outshines it. Melt, ye
darn snow, I wanna dig some clay!

My introduction to Robert McCloskey came in his classic "Make Way for Ducklings." My two-year-old son was captivated by the illustrations and story and it became a regular request on his nightly bedtime reading list.

He liked it so much, I hopped on Amazon and bought every book McCloskey had ever written or illustrated. Seriously.

Although the recommended age range for this book is 4-8, when the big Amazon box of new books arrived, "Burt Dow" immediately caught my son's attention. He simply couldn't resist the colorful illustrations of Burt Dow and his boat, the "Tidely Idely." The first time we read it, certain pages scared him a little ("Turn the page, Daddy!) but when he realizes Burt would be okay, he couldn't stop asking questions about the story.

Now three-and-a-half, he still requests "Burt Dow, Deep Water Man" every week or two. It's his favorite book and he quotes it often and even finishes many of my sentences when I read it to him.

I couldn't give this book a higher recommendation.

If your child is between two and eight and you are interested in other McCloskey books, consider "Blueberries for Sal," "Lentil," "One Morning in Maine," and of course, "Make Way for Ducklings."

If your children are a little older, say four to eight (maybe a little older) they'll appreciate "Homer Price" and "Centerburg Tales." They might also like "Time of Wonder," a very nice piece of writing and illustration you'll enjoy whether you are a kid or just a kid at heart.

Books for kids don't get much better than this one!

This funny story, set in a much better and more innocent age, will delight children. Old Burt Dow, a frugal part-time fisherman, heads off to do a bit of fishing and gets a bit more than he bargained for. Nothing seems to rattle him, though, as he manages a leaky boat with a cantankerous engine, a threatening storm, and a whole herd of multi-colored whales. If only today's authors could write stuff like this!

I found this to be an excellent resource because the book indicates the time of year when you might see a particular butterfly. This helps narrow down an identification. The book also identifies the stages of each butterfly and the pictures are excellent

I found this a great book for getting a start on butterfly identification. I wanted something limited to my part of North America since I have found that field guides that cover the whole continent are overwhelming and time-consuming to use when first trying to get to know any group of plants or animals.

The book is easy to flip through rapidly. You need only look at the lefthand pages to quickly review a group of butterflies. Most double page spreads show both the dorsal (upperside) and ventral (underside) views of both the fore and hind wings. Family and subfamily are at the bottom of the pages and there is a useful monthly occurrence chart (phenogram) under each picture. Each picture also includes a bar that indicates the actual wing span of the species--a very useful device I haven't seen in other butterfly books. Textual notes include the "Nature Notes" which give behavioral or other useful information for making ids.

The standard text sections for each species include: Description, Similar Species, Life Cycle, Eggs, Caterpillar, Chrysalis, Wintering, Caterpillar Food, and Adult Food. The descriptive text is excellent. It gives a description from above and from below and provides clear references to the field mark lines which indicate key points in the photos.

All in all, this is a superb field guide if you are interested in the butterflies of New England. I have compared it to the Kaufman Focus and Petersen field guides on butterflies and it seems to lack nothing for someone whose focus is on the northeast.

It's even sized to fit into your pants pocket and weighs about 1/3 what a "standard" field guide weighs.

I'd say this book may currently be a sleeper, but is destined to become a classic.

I've had this book on my shelf for 10 years, and I finally read it this summer. It is as good as the Laura Ingalls Wilder series, set 100 years earlier in the New England wilderness. The main character, Maggie, shows spirit and grit, making sacrifices for the family too which she has been "bound-out", even though they consider her an outsider because of her French heritage. I will use it with my 9th grade remedial class because it is relatively easy to read, but it still has themes and vocabulary that will help my students grow.

I read this to my 10 yo ds and 9 yo dd and we loved it. It was interesting to each of us and we were all hoping that there was a sequel. It really shows what life was like for immigrants who first came to America and how different life was like from what they were used to.

Highly recommend this book.

I just finished reading this book to my grandson, and he was totally absorbed in it from start to finish. In fact, he had his grandma finish reading the story when I had to quit, then asked me to read it to him again the next night! And this is from a kid who's very hyper. The lessons to be learned about life in this book are good for every kid, and they're presented in a way that's spellbinding to them, but not oversimplified. I highly recommend this book!

My name is Tessie and I am 9 years old. I read the Candle and the Magic Boat. I like this book very much because it brings me into the book when Candle flew out to OOzooland and when Coozoo took Candle to the Magic Mirror Factory where Foofooth was. The Mirror Factory was very pretty and it was my favorite place. The story is really exciting and the pictures are almost "magical". I would recommend this book to everyone.

Learn Pachelbel's Canon
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-20
Sylvia Woods has produced an set of arrangements of the Pachelbel "Canon" for the folk or lever harp. There are arrangements for both an intermeditate-level and more difficult harp solo, harp duet (lucky you, if you have another harper nearby!), and an arrangement for harp and another instrument like flute or violin. There are two sections - one in the key of D (the Canon was written in D), and one in G. No lever changes. Fingerings are included.

The Canon is quite easy to play, since it's just a repetition of about 8 sets of chords. Once you learn the series of chords, you're 90% there!

This is a great favorite for weddings or other formal occasions (first nights, concerts, etc), so if you plan on playing in public at some point, this is a great piece to add to your repetoire!

Wonderful Theme to Play

As a harp student, I was very surprised to find such a selection of books on the topic at Amazon.

Sylvia Woods is a remarkable player (I recommend her recordings also), as well as being wonderful at composing and arranging music. Pachelbel's Cannon is a simple yet beautiful theme, and well-known. Anyone playing for gigs or just for fun should have it in their repertoire.

The book comes with many variations on the tune, including Easy and Advanced Harp Solos, and a Harp Duet either for two harps or one harp and another instrument. Also, you can play the song in either D or G.
