Pick up any book Brandon has a part of. This guy is remarkable at what he does. I started reading him because i wanted to read a "supernatural" book. When reading the "unreal" it is just that....unreal. But his way of writing will have you wanting more.

This is another great book he has put together. Left me on the edge of my seat expecting more and actually receiving it. Good read. Pick it up

I thought this book was a little over the top. This was the first book I read of Mr. Massey and it didn't really sell me. I will probably try another book of his before I make a final judgement. I love to write and Mr. Massey is inspirational. He is very passionate about his writing and I admire him for making his dream come true. I think the best is still to come with Mr. Massey.

Although the plot was mildly interesting, it was a little too 'far out there' to be truly captivating. I wasn't especially impressed by the author's writing style; I found his repeated inferences to the black culture interupted the material's flow. I most likely won't seek out other works by this author.

Drew (short for Andrew) is a successful novelist who appears to have everything. He has a hit thriller series, a nice large home in Atlanta, several wonderful friends, and is eagerly awaiting his new book deal (which promises to make him hundreds of thousands). The only thing missing is the love of a good woman, or to finally admit that he is in love with his best friend, Carmen. A slave to habit, his life, which is clearly outlined and followed, is disrupted when he meets the "woman of his dreams" (Mika) in Starbucks. She seems, initially, to be everything he wanted....beautiful, smart, rich, sexy and seemingly independent. However, after a night of passion, Mika turns into something he doesn't want and can't handle. As the novel unfolds, Massey introduces an element of the supernatural that promises to hold the attention of the reader until the very end. With a stormy parental relationship with his father, and his mother's psychic dreams, Drew realizes that he is in trouble, but is unsure of how to escape the one he thought that he desired. Filled with psycho cats, a sweet ghost named Sammie, and a scary groundskeeper (Walter), this novel has it all.....a little romance, some mystery, some deaths and a great story. I won't tell you what or who Mika is, reading this novel will tell you that, but I will say that Massey is among the few today who can create a story to be rivaled by Tanarive Due or Octavia Butler. Read this novel and you will not regret it.

This book is beautifully written. The words on the page flow like musical notes. This book is a valuable addition to any home or school library and a great way to introduce children to the types of musical instruments. I love the way the book introduces the instruments one at a time and gives the vocabulary for the number of instruments in the orchestra each time a new instrument is added (solo, duo, trio, quartet, quintet, etc.). At the end of the book, the author shows how all of the instruments join together to create music "that we all adore."

Great picture book to use in the classroom from preschool through 4th grade. For 3rd through 4th graders, you could use this book as an engaging tool to discuss musical terms, context clues, alliteration, adjectives, prefixes.

This is my 4 y.o.'s favorite book. We had read it to her so many times that she has memorized it. She can name every instrument and tells me which ones she likes the best. A plus plus.

I purchased this for my Kindermusik class, and the only thing that would've made it better would've been a real violin. It is a charming book, and it wasn't too long even for 3 year olds.

My just-turned-3 year old likes this book, and so do I. It has deepened his curiousity about and enthusiasm for instruments and the music they make, and it has inspired him to play his miniature guitar both as a 'violin' and a 'cello' (though he knows he needs a bow!).

I like the illustrations very much, and the verse is also fun to read.

I was very happy that he liked the book so well--when the Amazon package arrived, he was hoping for a book about excavators--his other passion! I'm glad to say he was not at all disappointed, once he saw the pictures.

This book is one of my standard gifts to families with small children. It's a great way to introduce them to poetry, music, and art. It's a great vocabulary builder, too--I've read it to my 4th-6th grade choir and had to explain musical terms to them. Fun sounds and interesting pictures to explore!

We came across the Harry books at our library and my daughter (2) loved them so much that I purchased them for her. They are so much fun to read.

I loved this book as a child and now my 2 year old loves it too. This book tells the story of Harry, who hates baths. He hates them so much that he buries his brush and (temporarily) runs away from home. He plays and gets so dirty that his family thinks he is a different dog entirely. The story is sweet and simple enough for my 2 year old to enjoy, but not so simple that it's boring or babyish.

This book was my Daughter's favorite when she was a toddler, I must have read it a thousand times! She just had a Daughter of her own and I thought she might like it to read to her little girl.

I absolutely adored this book when I was little, so of course I was pleased when one of my first graders picked it up at the school library and beged me to read it for our class read-aloud this afternoon. Since we have recently discussed thinking about characters' emotions as we read, this was a perfect exercise--the text never actually says just what the cute little dog Harry is feeling during his adventure of getting dirty. And if you think about it, his tale is quite poignant. Anway, comprehension lessons aside, my kids were glued to the story and we had a great discussion afterwards. The writing is brisk and fun and subtle, leaving plenty to the readers' assumptions. The black and white pictures are adorable, detailed, and full of expression. Really, not many people write like this anymore.

Harry the Dirty Dog was undoubtedly a favorite of my children 25 years ago. I read it over and over. Despite the repitition, I also love this book. There is a rhythmn to the prose that makes it as fun to read as it is to listen to. I'm thrilled to see it again so that I may purchase it for my grandchild.

A good book on an important subject-worth picking up. The illustrations are superbly done.

I teach 5th grade...in NC. Keith Odom, the author ANDillustrator of MERVIN THE PURPLE SCHMOO is my cousin...I would lovethe book if I was not related. The story is sweet and the artwork is beautiful. I read it to my students and then they wanted to re-read it individually. (I can't read it with the expression Keith can.) My co-workers love the book too and want personal copies AND copies for their classrooms. Keith is a very talented person and a fine author/illustrator. I am completing my 27th year of Elementary School teaching and I've never seen such a good book. MERVIN and KEITH are great...Keep it up Keith.

My girlfriend has been trying to get me to read the Bible. I told her it was to long so she borrowed the book about the schmoo from her sister and asked me was this one to long. I thought she was just being sarcastic because it's a kid book. At least I thought it was when I started reading it. I'm 22 and I really enjoyed it. My girlfriend must have pretty good taste in books. I might start the Bible now. I can trust her not to have me read stuff that will be a waste of time.

Read MERVIN at my Sister's house yesterday. She had recently purchased one from the author at a local book signing. She said Mr. Odom was a joy to talk to. She, my nephew, and I are all mezmorized by the story and the pictures. Mr. Odom had enclosed a book mark with your address on it to write a review. I don't really know how to write a review but his book is G-R-E-A-T. My sister said he's almost finished with a sequel. We can't wait to get one. Make that two. Hope he has another local signing. I'll be there and I'll bring some friends with children. There are none at my house unless you count ME.

I bought a copy of Mervin the Purple Three-Toed Schmoo at abook signing last week. It was intended for my 8 year old Grandson,who I haven't seen since, so he may never get this book because I love it so much. Mr. Odom was very personable and is obviously a brilliant writer as well as artist. He told me he was almost finished with his second book. He promised that the second would be better, especially artistically, than Mervin because he had been a little "rusty" doing the artwork for the first book. I can't conceive of anything surpassing Mervin. I can hardly wait to get a copy of the second book.

This rhyming children's book is terrific toddler reading. The drawings are beautiful and our kids have both loved it. Our two year old loves the animal illustrations and verses. A great pick!

We recently ordered 5 copies of Quick as a Cricket for our grandson and as gifts for other children. Our kids grew up with this book and it is timeless. All the copies we ordered were paperback but one arrived supersized. The pages are 15 x17 which is wonderful. The pages of the smaller books are 6x6. Both sizes have their uses but we really enjoy the wonderful illustrations in the larger format.

My children love this book (they are 5, 3 and 1). The illustrations are amazing and the words are few, but very creative. It's very fun to immitate the pages as well.

Cute book! There are puppets that can be purchased to go along with the story, they are great for kids to keep them engaged and involoved.

I used to use this book while teaching children at a learning center, and now I use this book to read to my daughter before bedtime. The pictures are great! The read is short which is great for kids with short attention spans. Absolutely a must have!

This book is great for many reasons! 1st my boys love looking for little "i's" lost dot on every page. I like how when the red dot goes in the blue water it turns purple, because it opened up discussion on mixing & making colors. The page where each letter finds an item that starts with that letter is great. It really helps us talk about letters, sounds, and words. They love that little "i" is a trickster and how Capital I outsmarts him. I like how it references lower and upper case letters.
In the end the letters go to school with Charley and that helps us talk about how my older son will go to Kindergarten. Every night my boys each get to pick a story for me to read to them, and this is always a favorite!

My pre-k age son found this book at the library and loves it so much that he does not want to return it! The story is interesting, and the pictures are great. We are going to have to purchase one to have at home.

Illustrations in this book are bright and colorful, cute story, however, my children aren't that interested in it. Children ages 5, 4, 2 1/2, 16 months.

My son cannot get enough of this book! We first borrowed it from the library (three consecutive times) and then eventually had to purchase it because he wanted to read it all of the time (I thought other kids should have the opportunity to check it out of the library!). It has really taught him his ABCs in a fun way, and now he has the story practically memorized. Although I like the book I have to admit that I'm a bit burnt out on it because my son wants to read it at least once a day (it was four times a day when we first received it)!!

I borrowed this book from the public library and enjoyed it so much I had to buy it. It is great for working on the letters of the alphabet with younger children. They enjoy looking for the missing dot, which is hiding on every page. The illustrations are very vibrant. The children I read this story to enjoyed the mystery.

Little Dogs: Training Your Pint-Sized Companion

This is a great book. I highly recommend it for anyone with a small dog. I have a number of other dog training books, but this book does provide an important perspective on training small dogs.

I recently read the book: "Little Dogs: Training Your Pint-Sized Companion" by Deborah Wood.
I really liked and enjoyed this book. It is about 130 pages long and is an easy read. But she shares a lot of tips on how to train your toy breed dog and shares some insight into how these little dogs think.
This book is all about training your dog to be a better companion and a good dog that people will enjoy being around. It includes a brief section on house training and other problem issues. It also discusses the basic commands that we should teach our dogs so that they behave and to protect them from possible harm that could happen if they do not respond to your commands.
The book is sometimes humorous and tries to get you thinking what it's like from the dog's point of view and what the dog actually hears when you say something.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has recently adopted a new puppy or even an older small breed dog. This book is for someone who is not interested in getting into performance events, but wants a well trained dog. However, it can get you thinking that, if you can train your small dog beginning obedience, perhaps you can go on to compete in other dog activities such as Rally, Obedience and/or Agility.

This book like little dogs, Happy, Fun, and full of good humored ATTITUDE.I like to give this as a 'new puppy' or 'newly rescued' gift, especially to big dog people getting their 1st experience w/ the smaller cousins. Ms. Woods book has lots of great ideas for care, training and even game playing w/ the little guys. I love this book...you'll read it w/ a smile!!

I thought this book was an excellent training manual for my 2 yorkies. Gives you insight into the dogs' perceptions of the world, and offers great advice on training your little dogs. When I trained my first yorkie, I tabbed certain "tricks" and wrote an index in the back to give me a quick reference point.... Came in very handy when training my second yorkie. I liked this book so much I purchased 1 for my mom, who has chihuahuas.

This was a great book with lots of information about building your own mud oven. It was easy to follow how to build the oven and there was a lot of explaining about how and why every little thing worked.

I went to a major bookstore looking for information on wood fired ovens and got nothing......the book I bought at Amazon was just what I needed. Maybe next year we will have a wood fired oven in our back yard. Service was good and promt.

Great book and easy to read and follow. I built my first 22" over a couple days after reading the book. I'll make my bread for Thanksgiving in the oven!

This book is perfect for someone wanting to build an outdoor oven. It address every issue that you may encounter and provides many examples of the various styles and techniques. There are pages that tell you what kinds of materials are best for different applications, how to mix your mud, the various methods for insulating and how to use the completed oven.

This is a well written book, nicely illustrated and with a well thought out structure. It covers everything you should need to know on how to build an earth oven. The writing is clear and concise, while still conveying the obvious joy of someone who is genuinely inspired by their subject. I especially liked it because it contains a lot of technical detail illustrated with many examples and not much of the boring, preachy philosophical rambling that you find in so many books on hand building from natural materials. Not that there is anything wrong with philiosophising in its place, but I just wanted a book on how to build an earth oven and this is exactly what I got. I would also recommend, as a companion book, 'The Bread Builders: Hearth Loaves and Masonry Ovens' which is a more general and comprehensive book on masonry stoves and baking of bread.

The books and color pictures really are wonderful. The downside to this set is, and it's been mentioned before, that these are only the first five books.

I loved the Laura books, they were all great, I remember when my mother read these books to me, alot of memories come back when I look at them. However, I do wish they had picked a better illustrator! Look at them, none of the characters look real. Laura and her family were real people, couldn't they make them look like it? Garth Williams is one of the worst drawers I've seen!
Anyway, that was my biggest complaint.

Giving this to our daughter for Christmas. Nice to pass along to our kids.

The Little House series is one of my all time favorites, my absolute favorite of the whole series is Little House in the Big Woods. The descriptions of everything from the foods they prepared, what people wore and how they entertained themselves. Watching Laura grow up through the series was a real treat and this would be a great series for any girl around the age of 10 who can grow with the series.

This is a beautiful set. We love to read it as a family and learn how they used to live. We actually are learning a lot as we enjoy the stories. So worth the cost and the illistrations are so lovely to look at.

Wonderful book about Manyara and Nyasha, daughters of an African King. This books shows that beauty comes from within. Manyara is a selfish sister and wants nothing more than to be queen and she will stop at nothing to be it. Nyasha is kind and loving and only wants to be happy. She sees the beauty in nature and people. A king from the neighboring town is searching for a wife and immediately Manyara wants to be queen. Manyara gets up early and sneaks to the village of the King but she is met by a little boy who wants food, and a elderly woman whom she is told to be kind too. She doesnt give the boy food and is verbally mean to the old woman. Nyasha goes through the forest and finds the same people but this time she gives food to the little boy. She is met by a woman who points the way to the city and she is kind to her and gives her sunflower seeds. As they approach the city, Manyara runs out and crying saying that she saw a snake with 5 heads and was telling her how rotten of a person she is. Nyasha is brave and walks in only to a find a simple snake for whom she was friends with. He tells her that he is the king and the elderly woman and little boy in the forest. He then asks her to be his queen because she is the most beautiful and kindhearted of them all.

This is a sweet folktale, simple and straightforward where good is rewarded and evil is punished, though it does not come off as preachy. The African culture is very strong, and that what makes the book so appealing. The illustrations are incredible and detailed with plenty to absorb. The writing is somewhat complex, making this suitable for older children, though it would be perfect for a read-aloud.

I am 18 years old and I read "Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters" in elementary school and I was enamored with the story then! And I still am. This "African Cinderella" is sure to resonate with young girls and make them curious about Africa.

It is the story of an African King who has two beautiful daughters, only one of them, Manyara, is mean, nasty, and "haughty" (this book is where I learned that word!) while Nyasha is sweet, compassionate and kind. When their father learns that a ruler of another kingdom is to take a wife, he decides that both of his beautiful daughters should go. However, Manyara arrogantly leaves alone to get there before her sister, ever so certain that she will be chosen.

On the way both her and her sister encounter a series of tasks and through these, their true characters are tested.

Other than a great story, the illustration is absolutely beautiful! They are artwork unto themselves. Love this book! I can't wait to purchase this for the little girls in my life! Or, i just may buy it to reminisce!

The illustrations are breathtaking. The story emphasizes the true ugliness of getting to the top no matter what, while at the same time showing the beauty of compassion, empathy, and taking the time to make true connections with others and embracing their essence. These are values that we must instill within our children. I read this story to my own beautiful daughters over and over and it opens the door for deep discussions about the nature of their special bond as sisters and the need to not face one another as competitors, but as lifetime companions and support for one another.

This story is based on an African tale that is similar in nature to Cinderella. In this story a man named Mufaro had two beautiful daughters, one named Manyara, and one named Nyasha. Manyara is rude to Nyasha, who just calmly bears it. When a call comes saying the Great King wants a wife, Mufaro plans to take his daughters to the palace the next day. Manyara decides to leave in the night to make she is chosen to be Queen. During the journey she is rude to a number of people, who turn out to be the King himself, shape-shifted into those forms as well as the form of a garden snake well-known to Nyasha. When Nyasha passes the next day, she is kind where her sister was rude. Needless to say the King picks Nyasha, and they live happily.

The story is told well, and the language used is wonderful, though not quite as wonderful as the illustrations. They almost look more life-like than photographs. The way lighting is used is amazing, and they are just stunning pictures. Everything about this book is wonderful, with nothing to detract from it.
