My 7mth old learnt how to kiss with this book

I bought many books for Zara, our 7 month old, and none interest her as much as this one.
She really enjoys it each time I read this book to her, she smiles and gets all excited the minute I put her on my lap and take this book out.
Every time after reading it, and I put it aside, she'll reach for the book, takes it and places it on her lap, and then leans back against me, indicating she wants me to read it to her again.
Yesterday, when we reached the page KISS KISS, I LOVE YOU. She just leaned forward and kissed the baby photo on that page!! And when we reached the last page with the mirror on, she leaned forward again and kissed her own image on the mirror!
She did the same thing again when I re-read the book to her. It's just amazing!
Later, she gave me a pack on the cheeck when we're done with the book, and I asked her for one.
She just learnt how to kiss with this book!
This book is a must have for babies!

Perfect for little ones!

I bought this book for my daughter when she was 7 months old because she pulled it off the shelf at Barnes and Noble and couldn't stop looking at it. The faces of the babies featured in the book are adorable!

Now, she is 19 months, and both she and I have the whole book memorized. Her favorite page is, "Baby, Baby, Where are you?" Then when you turn the page, it reads, "Boo!" in gigantic letters! She giggles every time!

This book is definitely a great first step toward literacy, and it is a lot of fun. Be prepared to read it over, and over, and over, and over...

Bought as a gift, then for the twins.

Babies love to look at other babies, duh! That's why I bought this as a gift...the recipient claimed this as her favorite book, and now mine feel the same! This is one's their fav., because there is just enough happenning to keep there attention (3-6 months) and not too much to dissinterest them. I'm sure the babes will love this for a long time in the future.

Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!

My son loved this book as an infant. It was the book that he first started turning pages in at 8 months old. We wake him up with "Wakey wakey sleepy baby" (first page of the book) and he still loves it at 19 months. A must have for all babies. I also recommend Clever Color from the same series.

Since he was 6 months, this has been my son's favorite!

Our son has loved this book ever since we got it for him when he was 6 months. He loves the pictures and he loves the text. Sometimes when he's fussy we'll just say, "Baby, Baby, Where Are You?" and he'll calm down!

About a month or so ago, he dropped Baby Boo in a dirty diaper (he was reading it while I was changing him) and Baby Boo had to be retired. I ordered a replacement, it was backordered...anyway, I finally got it today.

Our son (now almost 16 months) was so excited to see Baby Boo again that he started shrieking and waving his hands! He smiled and laughed as I read him the book. Then he sat and turned the pages for the longest time...and when I looked over, he was kissing the babies, on the mouth! He'd turn a page, smile, look at the baby face and give it a big kiss. He recommends it to all babies everywhere!

If you ever thought you knew all about wood, guess again.
This book has more history, knowledge and facts than any we
have ever had. We have a copy and have given copies to approx.
6 people in the wood working business.

We own a saw mill, but my husband was so delighted with little
known facts and trivia, we just had to share it with others.

A MUST buy!!!!

Eric Sloane has written several books, filled with his wonderful drawings, looking back at times in our early American past. This is the first of his I've read, and I want to read them all. I can't say if he is accurate in his depictions, nor whether his viewpoint has full historical merit, but he shows us the value of what we've lost.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I read it in a sitting. I'm not even all that interested in wood or building anything else that may have made me a likely fan. The writing was fantastically engaging, and the tidbits and anecdotes just kept coming. I say it's Cliff Claven writes a book because that's how I've been describing it for 10 years now - Sloane's enthusiasm and honest passion are to writing what the charm of a pure young laugh is to happiness. I've given this book away I don't know how many times, and have never heard of somebody not loving it too.

Great book, both for woodworkers and those interested in early Americana

This is Sloane's best book in my opinion, but then I've been a woodworker for many years and already have "a reverence for wood". There is much to learn here, a lot of information compressed into easily understood drawings and text and a joy to study. Highly recommended for both the woodworker and anyone interested in wood and its properties and uses.

Pretty neat.

This is an easy read that yet conveys quite a bit of information. An important part are the drawings, which say more than a thousand words. It is an atmosphere book, which lets the reader understand something of the relationship between the early Americans and their material (wood). It also shows that wood allows more uses than what passes for woodworking these days.

I am a little dubious about the inclusions of trees in the back. The author appears somewhat out of his depth here (he is no Peattie, not by a long way).

The details on this are excellent. Sketches, plans, perspectives, maths, tables, formulas, theory, you have it all. All graphics hand-drawn! Each joint has a photo, a drawing and cutting details and dimensions. Focused too: nothing outside the scope of the *classic* timber frame.

I have read all the major timber frame books on the market, including both titles from Jack Sobon. Benson's book is packed with information on how to build a timber frame and has an index in the back that allows one to figure out what size timber is needed. This book is one of, if not, the best on this subject.

I was given this cookbook back in 1976 when I got my first apartment. It was my first cookbook and it is still in regular use. Using this book as a guide I discovered that I could eat chicken gizzards and not die, as a matter of fact I liked them.
I now have two children that are in college and I would like to get copies for them. I was really hoping that the authors had continued with new editions through the years. Haven't found another cookbook that is as helpful to the novice cook.

My mother gave me this book went I went to college in 1977. I didn't use it much during those college years as I lived in the dorm. Later when I had my own place, it was a lifesaver!! I still use some of the recepies and tips today. Very simple and practical with no fear, the way cooking needs be. I've acquired numerous cookbooks from around the world during my travels. This one still holds a special place on my bookshelf. And not just because my mother gave it me.

In 1975 I was sent off to college with very few cooking skills, except for peanut butter and canned soup. The Campus Survival Cookbook goes beyond recipes... it is written with the assumption that all you know is peanut butter and soup, and all you have is a plastic knife and fork stolen from the Colonel's, and only fifteen bucks to feed yourself for the week, with midterms coming up.

Excellent advice on shopping on a tight budget, preparing healthy meals that provide leftovers for days, and avoiding the fast-food money grabbers. I STILL use my 1973 paperback edition!

This is the book I learned to cook with. I still own my copy, and still make some of the recipes from this book. Jo's Sloppy Joes are a family favorite, and the brownie recipe is the best I've ever tried. I bought the 2nd edition for my daughter, and she likes it very well. The book includes 4 weeks of dinner menus, suggestions for lunches and breakfasts, party foods, grocery lists, and suggestions for basic cooking equipment, plus instructions on everything from how to ring the bell to talk to a butcher at the grocery store, to how to slice round objects. Should help any new cook get started.

VERY well done with detailed explanations & the authors thoughts about each step. Anatomy, acurate color rendition with actual information as to how it was accomplished, how to mount eyes & create feet are all covered with photograhs backing up the text.
I'm a hand carver yet found the book not only instructive from my point of view but interesting & beautiful as well.
It now rests on my coffee table where it has been enjoyed by several guests who have found it's content facinating. ... Because it IS!

I have an extensive library of carving books to include the two classics "Raptors" and "Owls" by Floyd Scholz. Lori Corbett's book has earned a place among my finest carving books. It is well conceived, well organized and clearly written. Steps in carving are logical and easy to follow; yet, not trite. The writing is crisp and interesting. While there are many, many books on carving Lori's sets a high standard for others to strive. In all aspects this book excels to include pictures, illustrations, diagrams, and both carving and painting instructions. I recommend that if a carver can only afford one book of instruction and inspiration, then purchase Lori's "Carving Award Winning Songbirds" -- and at half the price of most other books! In the near future, I shall attempt to learn whether Lori can instruct as well as she can write. My thanks for a marvelous book. Mel Donaho, long time carver and instructor

Most books suffer some kind of short-coming. Muehlmatt's book is good, but lacks painting information. Hillman's are totally worthless..

But this book covers everything....painting, habitat, anatomy...everything.

If you are new to bird carving...buy this book FIRST! If you are a seasoned carver, buy it because you will learn something from it.

This book will inspire you beyond belief into transforming dull rooms into beautiful ones. This book is really great -- it goes through various rooms the Changing Rooms TV show has made over during the past few years, giving you step-by-step info for how to do what they've done. The designers on Changing Rooms are very creative and innovative and what I like is that the makeovers are completely do-able, even for novices. This book is worth it for the inspiration alone!

Changing Rooms did for me what Linda Barker's book about designers secrets didn't do. There's plenty of pictures, before & after and lots of tips about the projects. Glossary of terms is rather helpful. Especially nice are the mini-stories about the people involved and their goals for the rooms. After this book arrived I read it cover to cover. It doesn't live on the bookshelf. You can find it either on the coffee table, my desk or my bedside table. Yaaaaayy!! Linda and all your cohorts!

I absolutetly adore the show "Changing Rooms" (and "Ground Force" as well), it's so much better than "trading Spaces", the American remake because they are a lot more daring and know how to bring their creativeness to the rooms (plus it does'nt drag on for an entire hour, only thirty minutes). If you have BBC America, watch Changing Rooms, and if you want to revive a dead look in your house buy this book! ...

I got hooked on Changing Rooms from the beginning when Direct TV first put BBCA on our system.

I believe this British (the original) show is so much better than the American version of the show, Trading Spaces. I believe it is because the designers are so much daring in their creations and are not as bland (and I really mean bland) as the American counterpart.

But being an American, I don't know if I could do a complete make over from Changing Rooms, but the ideas that Linda Barker gives are so inspirational so hopefully it will me to break out of my own "bland" mold. I could maybe let Laurence redo a room and not cry when I see it.

I've been an obsessive fan of BBC's Changing Rooms series for several years now, so I went totally nuts when I heard there was a Changing Rooms book available! And what a book it is!! Basically, it gives indepth instructions for many of the techniques and processes seen on the show, but in greater detail than you get on TV. I was especially excited to learn about the antiquing wax Linda Barker used to age a fireplace, and I was totally inspired by her use of black-and-white copies to create your own wall border. If you like Changing Rooms (or even the whiny American knockoff, Trading Spaces), this book is a must-have. It's also great if you're looking for inexpensive do-it-yourself projects that pack a lot of punch in a short amount of time. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because a few of the rooms just don't meet with my taste.

I enjoy dePaola's books very much, but this one I am extra enthusiastic about. I work in a classroom of 3,4 and 5 year olds, and I am responsible for selecting literature for, and reading to, the younger children in the class. Sometimes when I am reading a dePaola book I have to cut some of the narrative to keep their attention. I don't have to do that at all with this book. This is a book that will keep the 3 year old's attention and still offer something to the older children as well. A lot of the charm of this story is the pictures which feature the action outlined in the text as to what Charlie is doing and also clearly represents the agendas of a spunky sheep and craftly mouse. YOung children love to discover these little "surprises" within the illustrations.

Great for teaching sequencing....

While I am a pre-service teacher, the second grade classroom that I am observing is currently working with _Charlie Needs a Cloak_and sequencing. The students are given the prompt of each of Charlie's actions on 'wool' pieces and then the students write 2-3 complete sentences using various punctuation. Also, there is a story within a story, which students (at least these 12 second graders) showed enthusiasm with prediction and sequencing. The story within a story format is one big reason why I am a fan of this book!

Though it's rated at the pre-school level, I've found Charlie Needs a Cloak to be useful and entertaining for kids up to third grade. In my work as a museum educator, this delightful tale serves as a valuable intro to the world of pre-industrial textile production, especially in colonial America. The illustrations are humorous, which dePaola is famous for. Charlie needs a new cloak, and he takes the reader through the process of making one, from shearing his whimsical sheep, who help him with his work, to weaving, dyeing, and sewing the new garment. Too bad Charlie doesn't notice, as soon as he puts it on, that his favorite sheep is already chewing on his hem!

I bought this book for my little nieces, whom I watch during the week.

They love the book, mostly for personal reasons - I carry the baby, ELIZABETI carries her baby; our baby is Eva, THE DOLL is Eva - but I love the book just because it's a very sweet story.

It has simple enough wording, only a few sentences per two-page spread, that it can be read easily to a young child, only two years or so... and it has a deep enough story that it will be enjoyed by an older child as well.

There's only one part of the book that strikes me as strange, and that's at the very end. Elizabeti's mother thinks to herself that Elizabeti will be a good mother when she grows up... and then we're told that Eva (the doll/rock) thinks so too. The style of the book is so realistic that it's a strange note, because, of course, dolls and rocks don't think. But I can always edit or skip that line, so it's not a problem.

Outstanding book

The entire Elizabeti series is outstanding. All the characters depicted are gentle, caring, and loving to each other as they go about their daily business. My 6 year old daughter and I loved the book. I read her the story and then went outside to do last minute yard work. After I was through, I came back in the house. To my surpise, my daughter was sitting on the couch, and in her lap was a rock that was swaddled in a kitchen towel. That was so neat to have her pass up her toy box and find pleasure in a simple thing.

As the mother of two young girls, I have read hundreds of picture books. "Elizabeti's Doll" is, in my opinion, a rarity: a book for children whose characters and plot are unique, compelling and satisfying, all within a handful of words on a few pages. This book is what literature should be for adults and kids.

Elizabeti is a completely endearing character, who reminds adults and children that childhood has its special joys, and high among those is the ability to involve the entire family in a fantasy world of the child's own making. Elizabeti turns a rock into the family's new baby, whom everyone loves and cherishes right along with her. It's a story about what is best in all of us.

I discovered Enid Blyton when I was about ten, and even though this particular book/series is meant for younger children, I devoured these gentle and imaginative stories.

The Faraway Tree is a magical tree that has many characters living in it, and at the very top of the tree there is an everchanging cycle of magical worlds - one world will come around every few days or hours and then go away, to return months or years later.

The magical worlds are great fun and offer a look at how trips to different kinds of fantasy lands might play out. The kids have to use their wits to escape from some of the tougher situations they encounter in the nastier worlds, and their willpower to go home from the worlds that offer endless candies and nice things!

I read an older edition of this book, but I have heard from other Blyton fans that they have "updated" the books somewhat in the last ten years. I think Fanny's name has been changed and a lot of silly scenarios have been altered - I can only guess what the censors did to Dame Slap! (She was really pretty tame!) In any case, as a ten-year old growing up in a big city, I didn't find anything snigger-worthy enough to warrant changing, and I'd urge folks to try and find an older edition of this book that has not been abridged.

I am guessing that even if you use this modern edition, though, that Blyton's trademark readability and imaginative writing will still shine through. This would be an ideal book for the eight and under crowd, but even as an adult, I still get a lot of pleasure out of the occasional reread.

Enid Blyton was my favourite author as a child and continues to receive my high esteem. I recently bought these books for my neice who is as yet far too young to read them. I can't wait for a couple of years until she is old enough to sit and listen while 'aunty kat' reads them to her. It did take me a while to find the books as i was determined to find older publications with the correct names as i wanted her to be able to have the same unaltered experience as i did.

Ms Blyton has an amazing capability in being able to catch the hearts and imaginations of children and adults alike and until my neice is old enough i will keep these books in my collection to pick up and re-read on a rainy sunday afternoon.

If your child only reads one book before the age of ten, make sure it is one by this author.

I really liked the story Lady Lollipop. The story is about a spoiled princess. Her mother and father gave her whatever she wanted. On her eighth birthday she wanted a pig. Her mother and father did not like pigs; they thought pigs were disgusting animals. Finally, they agreed to give her a pig for her eighth birthday, because she was spoiled and they gave her anything she wanted.

The owner of the pig she chose was an orphan boy. The pig was the only thing he had, and the princess felt pity for him. So, she asked if he wanted to come live with her in the palace and take care of the pig. The boy gladly agreed to go live with the pricess in the palace.

The boy taught the pig to do many things, and he wondered if he could teach the princess to think more about other people. One day the princess did begin to think more about other people.

My favorite part of the story was when the princess picked her pig. It was cool that the boy, who was very nice, told her all about the pig.

I am seven and a half years old, and I read this story myself. The story was just right for me. I read alot and would generally suggest a good reader of seven years or older could read it (a few words were difficult, but I could still understand the story). This would also be good story for a parent to read aloud.

I said this review out loud to my dad, who typed it in for me.

Thanks!

Great choice for young independent readers!

I have a five-year-old who is a voracious reader. It's hard to find chapter books that have content appropriate to her age but are still substantial enough to draw her in...and that she can't polish off in one sitting! Lady Lollipop has a wonderfully playful, fairy-tale feeling that fits the bill perfectly. I loved hearing my daughter burst into laughter as she read the book.

The princess gets a pig for her birthday but the queen doesn't like it. The queen thinks it's dirty. This book is about figuring out ways for the queen to like the pig. I think this is a very, very funny book, because there are three pictures of poo-poo.

I am 9 years old and I found this very easy to read.
