Arthur W. Page: Publisher, Public Relations Pioneer, Patriot is the definitive biography by Noel Griese of one of the most
prestigious public relations experts of the 20th century. Sent to England in 1944 to oversee troop information for the Normandy
invasion, Arthur Page later became famous as the bearer of world-shaking news when he presided over the release of what was
perhaps the most important news story of the last hundred years: the first military use of the atomic bomb at Hiroshima. From
his youth and graduation from Harvard in 1905 to his government service in World War I and his work for AT&T after World War
II, this biography spans the whole of a truly remarkable and varied life.

I had heard of As a Man Thinketh and decided to get it. I saw a set (7 Motivational Greats) that included As a Man Thinketh,
Acres of Diamonds and 5 others and figured for only a couple of $ more than just As a Man Thinketh if any one of the additional
titles was good I couldn't lose. I am reviewing this audiobook from the set I bought.
SHORT REVIEW I like them all very much but, I also have played most of these titles for my friends and every one liked them and most wanted to borrow them or asked where I bought them. I think that tells you all you really need to know, but if you want the details read on.
THE BIG REVIEWAs a Man Thinketh stresses how thought leads to action and how to turn those actions into concrete changes in your life. It is narrated very serenely with classical music. It puts you at ease and into a very receptive and retentive state for the information.
They set (7 Motivational Greats ) also has a modernized version of As a Man Thinketh ( As a Man Thinketh 2 ) that I enjoyed a lot also. It was quite a contrast from the classical, relaxed, and serious original As a Man Thinketh. These two audiobooks cover the basics of changing your mind and life to succeed.
They both cover pretty much the same material - but As a Man Thinketh 2 goes more in-depth and summarizes the information making it simpler and more idiot proof. The description says that As a Man Thinketh 2 is more comprehensible and actable than the original. I think that is true, but it is not as simple and relaxing as the original. The newer one is more detailed. It is also may be better suited for those who are younger, and those who enjoy humor, but not for very serious people without humor. As a Man Thinketh 2 is not as poetic and as meditative as the original. It, unlike the original version, includes women equally in it which I appreciated.
Also the narrator is very energetic, humorous, and there are different characters in it. The music is new age compared to classical for the original. So if you enjoy being entertained while you learn this one is for you. One of my friends, a mother of 3 teenagers, who bought a set for her kids to listen to said that the As a Man Thinketh 2 was better than the original. Her kids understood it and liked the faster pace. Apparently the older more formal English, classical music, and more poetic and relaxed tone of the original was not as good for them.
If you want straightforward, monotone, relaxing audiobook reading As a Man Thinketh 2 is not for you, but I really think overall it is better than the original version. It is easier to understand, more modern, clearer, and more detailed. Although both versions of the As a Man Thinketh are good.
I suggest if you want a more peaceful and meditative experience listen to the original.
If you want humor, energy, and lightness, go with the As a Man Thinketh 2 or better yet use and enjoy them both as I did. Between the two the powerful ideas of James Allen are very clear.
After listening to this set I feel that audiobooks are much better than reading for titles like these (inspirational and motivational). This is especially true for sets like this that you will want to listen to again and again just pop them in when you have time. The narrator comes across like a trusted friend, not stiff and formal, and the music and sound effects really put you in the mood.
GET THE CD or SET. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY.

Looking for Derek Taylor

Hello, my name is Heather, I have become enamored of this man.
Derek Taylor, I mean; his work, his manner, his mantality
(Yes, the spelling is correct.)
And I've never met him before.
And I never will. *grin*
But that's not the point, is it? The point is
to enjoy people like this, wherever they
can be found---And you?
And I post this on Valentines' Day. *laugh* Which I do not
believe in. I don't think Derek Taylor did either. The idea of
only ONE day of love expressed...
is abhorent. *grin*
Here, we have, exhibit A: a guy who influenced the Beatles, hung
with them, helped with them, and I find nothing, when I come
looking for him.
Well, guess what? This book rocks. And the prose, and the people
Derek talked about--people, yes, so many people--and the
insights, are as swift and as bright and as deep as a new
thought, in the dark.
Who'd've thought I'd go looking, for the first time, in my life, for the Beatles, and find this guy.
Amazing. You should read him.
As he sure as hell read
all of YOU *grin*
Find this book. Get this man's work seen.
I thank you.
Meanwhile, read this piece, that I wrote, after searching for Derek. You may just like it.

Billions and billions of Beatle pictures. You can't see the fawking ROAD for Beatles pictures. Every once in a while though I'd find Derek. Hiding on a page. Standing so close, so intent, so integral to the mood, you almost wondered why you hadn't seen him more often in all those BLOODY photos. Needless to say, he (and others like him) had been cropped from view. We're here to see the Beatleboys, not the Beatleaides, not the Beatlekeepers, not the Beatle people so essential to the smooth-running operation that most fans didn't even know who the hell they were.
Only that they often stood as a roadblock, a deterrent, a buffer to Beatle-baked people who clamoured for yet another BLOODY photo, yet another autograph, yet another insightful interview, yet another money-making endorsement, yet another banal or boring conversation with their Beatle boygods.
Meanwhile, people like Derek Taylor provided an attempt at clarity, a soothing song in the ever-widening gyre of madness that hurricaned about them; a smoke-festooned-and-Scotch-laced Alka Seltzer to the moptop FabFour sanity and sense of self.
It wasn't just Derek. Without Brian Epstein, Peter Brown, Mal Evans, Neil Aspinall or even George Martin, I don't think the Beatles would have existed.
Oh, they'd be out there somewhere, playing in a dingy Cavernlike club. But I don't believe they would have reached the almost mythic proportions of pop/rock stardom they enjoyed (even to this day) without the incredibly devoted, rational and skilled people backing them up, holding their drunken heads or taking a punch for the Beatle benefit. Less insightful folks might feel otherwise, but if you look close, REAL close, you can see a pattern in the chain of command that surrounded these lovely lads from Liverpool.
And standing close by, cigarette barely dangling from his lips, his expression so dark, so unaffected was Derek. Derek's dark eyes always watching, watching. Exuding calm. (Whether he felt calm or not.) To be found in a photo. More than just a confidante; more than just a majordomo; more than just a father-figure to four cheeky chappies from a small seaport in the British Isles, Derek was their friend. He carried insights into each and every Beatle boy that shown through every press release he ever composed. He'd be on hand for all the cheer and all the paranoid doomsaying. Following George out a flashbulbed front door; standing protectively within shielding distance of any one Beatle that was about; striding through an airport walkway, like a military sergeant in a dark sharp-shouldered Savile row suit, offsetting Paul and John's white ones; leaning against an Apple-rotting rooftop wall, dressed in a caramel-coloured car coat, listening in a reverie to one last let-it-be concert from those Beatle boys he so adored; uncropped from a classic Beatle photo (There is a photo of Paul and his then girlfriend Jane Asher, returning from holiday in the Virgin Islands. I found a photo where Derek is walking along right beside Jane. Ha!)...there he is. Derek Taylor.
You should know this man. And be inspired by his words. As I am.

This ASHE Reader is a nice compilation of various theories on college student development. Anyone looking for the fundamental
theories should start here. This review will provide a quick overview of the different areas featured in the text followed
by general impressions of the entire text. There are six overarching sections: (1) Introduction to the study of student development
theory; (2) Holistic versions of student development; (3) Intrapersonal/interpersonal dimensions; (4) Cognitive dimensions
of development; (5) Theory to practice; and, (6) Additional readings list.
(1) Introduction to the study of student development theory
This section provides a nice starting place and provides the tools and the knowledge for understanding theory and the importance of theory. There are three articles in this section. This unit of the reader may not be as important to some people depending on previous knowledge and usage of other theories, developmental or not.
(2) Holistic versions of student development
This unit of the reader is divided into two parts: integrated developmental models and spiritual and faith development. Love and Guthrie have a nice article about Kegan's orders of consciousness; in fact, it is easier to read and comprehend than Kegan's actual article. I think it is important to read the original source, but for comprehension's sake, follow-up with Love and Guthrie's article. The articles about spiritual development are written by Sharon Parks, Patrick Love and Donna Talbot, and Dafina Stewart.
(3) Intrapersonal/interpersonal dimensions
This unit of the reader is further divided into five sections: psychosocial development, dynamics of race and ethnicity in development, dynamics of gender in development, dynamics of sexual orientation in development, and multiple dimensions of development. This unit makes up a majority of the reader and encompasses many theories on psychosocial development. Newcomers to student development will probably find Chickering's seven vectors the easiest to understand and the most applicable. From my experience, Chickering's theory spans such a broad range of college experience and is the simplest way to start incorporating theory into practice. Another important article is Helms' introduction to racial identity terminology. There are also articles that cover specific racial identities of which it is important for any student affairs administrator to have at least a vague understanding.
(4) Cognitive dimensions of development
This unit contains two sections: intellectual development and moral development. Classic theorists (Perry, King, Kitchener, Kohlberg, and Gilligan) have provided articles for this section. This section provides theories and articles about intellectual development and moral development. Personally, I found the theories by Kohlberg and Gilligan to be of greatest interest (care and justice based moral reasoning). All of these articles are "must-reads" for all student affairs professionals.
(5) Theory to practice
This section is basically a conclusion to the entire reader and how student development affects higher education policies and how to implement developmental models into everyday practice.
(6) Additional readings list
This section is pretty self-explanatory. There are plenty of readings for a specific area of interest.
This is a solid introduction to student development theory. For newcomers to the student development world might be a little hesitant about the sheer size of this reader, but be assured that not every one of the 49 articles are a fresh and different theory. Many of the articles simply provide support or alternative views for previous theories in each section. Unfortunately, it may be difficult at first to determine which articles are actual theories. I highly recommend this text for anyone looking for an entry into the world of student development.
It is nice to see that the price on Amazon finally lowered the price - when I purchased this book it was listed as 200-plus dollars. However, I bought it straight from the publishing company for much cheaper than Amazon was offering.

This collection puts together various and crucial essays in cultural criticism with poems and polemics; it is a much used
and innovative text in Asia/Pacific cultural studies. It calls into question any easy US assumpttion of what "Asia Pacific"
means in this paradoxically transnational and local era: this collection opens up the Pacific to new approaches, and shoud
be read and used, as it is, from Taipei to Los Angeles,

This book is complete, detailed, structured & full of good information that is easy to follow. It is the best book that I
have bought on the subject of maintenance management to date, and is now one of the few constant companion books that travel
with me. I would recommend Asset Maintenance Management to anyone in any field of maintenance management. At least one of
the articles has a definite electrical diagnostic slant for our electrical bretheren.
My only criticisms would be that the spell checker wasn't functioning particularly efficiently at the time of editing, and I've noted that at least two of the graphics have been partially cut off at the base. Finally, this book is based entirely around fixed processing plant, and as yet have no seen no applications of the information to mobile plant.
In closing, maintenance principles, philosophies, strategies & tactics are roundly universal and this book is a "must-buy" for anyone of any maintenance persuasion seeking to continue down the road of Continuous Improvement.

Margaret Carney has taken me back many years with her writing. I remember the fresh maple surup candy that I used to get
in the New England area. This story can demonstrate to students a way that children in different areas can help their family.
It is also a wonderful book to share at the beginning of spring if you are in an area, or going to an area, that produces
maple surup. I miss the woods and smells at that time of year (O.K. so I miss the maple sugar candy most). Enjoy this book
and try to find time to visit an area that produces maple sugar.

This book is nothing short of spectacular! I am fully impressed by the photography, the artistic layouts, color schemes,
map layouts, attention to detail and overall balance betweena art and science. Notwithstanding, the scientific text and information
presented in this beautiful monograph is cutting edge, but the overall impression given to the reader is that you're looking
at the finest work ever published and dedicated to this paricular subject. Shell collecting, in and of itself, represents
a very small microcosm in zoology, but Australia's Spectacular Cowries has elevated this science to a great new and higher
level. Mr. Jackson should be commended for an excellent job, and I believe that this work has raised the bar for all other
publishers attempting to capture the essence and soul of shell collecting. This book is truly a piece of art! I have never
seen any work on the subject that even compares to this effort. Many others I know will want to share and appreciate the
pleasure of owning this top of the line jewel for decades to come.

Good books on monitors are hard to come by and this is one of them. Up-to-date info and beautiful photo's (the one on the
cover is almost worth the price of the book IMO) make it a must for anyone interested in these incredible dragon-like lizards.
From the magnificient and beautiful Perentie to the cute Short-Tailed Pygmy Monitor all the varanids occuring in Australia are described and illustrated. It is also a good reference for those who wish to keep them as pets.

I originally found this book in a library and decided to order my own copy. It's very thorough and gives plenty of useful
information on hundreds of authors without bogging you down. If you're majoring in Literature and/or have a lot of papers
to write, this is the book for you!
