When Cleo goes "Between the Covers" to find out why the Lion in Aesop's fable, "The Lion and the Mouse" let the mouse go,
she herself gets caught in a hunter's net. Our family loves this story, and the way the "Between the Lions" characters use
it to help teach the short "i" sound. The tale is here in this wonderful activity book, along with excellent games and puzzles
that reinforce those short "i" lessons. And there's a home video of the show, called "Little Big Mouse," available now, too.
The show, video, and workbook make a great combination.
A delightful -- and inexpensive! -- activity book

This imaginative activity book tells the story of Aesop's LION AND MOUSE and then offers a lot of clever activities based
on the key words and letter sounds presented in the fable. The lovable characters from PBS's BETWEEN THE LIONS preside.
Wonderful fun, and a perfect companion to the new BTL video, "Little Big Mouse"!

Literary Animal is a relief to those of us who find that traditional literary theory just doesn't fit the empirical world.
Insightful, fair, and balanced, the text is stimulating on a variety of levels, with measured critiques of existing theoretical
approaches, and applications of evolutionary theory to a variety of literary tales. A gate-way text for students and teachers
of this new theoretical paradigm.

As an evolutionary biologist with a strong interest in literary theory, finding this book was extremely exciting for me, and
it definitely lived up to my expectations. The book consists of a collection of thought provoking, well written essays that
emphasize the need to incorporate evolutionary theory into the analysis of literature (and a few other art forms) and provide
strong examples of the benefits of using this technique. The contributing authors come from a wide range of disciplines and
bring a variety of views to the text. Some of my favorite essays included an analysis of Pride and Prejudice using evolutionary
themes, an investigation of male-male bonds in narratives, and a discussion of the possible benefits we receive from watching/reading
drama. I strongly recommend this for anyone who is interested in evolution, literature, or human nature.

Capturing the Child in All of Us

As author of THE LITTLE TOY SOLDIER ON THE COVERED BRIDGE,I'd suggest that it is most suitable for those with unfettered imaginations
disposed to flights of Christmas fancy, particularly for ages 12-97. Betsy Johnson wrote: "This story captures the child in
all of us." TOY SOLDIER is a fantasy, a vehicle of imagination that allows one to experience Christmas from the inside out.
It acknowledges the mysterious dynamic of transcending, which usually occurs wittingly or unwittingly during the Christmas
season, when many of us imagine entering one of numerous miniature Christmas villages set up in our living room or on the
fireplace mantel. TOY SOLDIER is a Christmas tale about three children, a toy soldier and a dog who enter one such village
(the New England Village of Duxbury) in search of a lost boy (Little Boy Blue). In their extensive odyssey, the Little Company
faces Nature's winter ferocity, experiences a series of extraordinary adventures, and meets unusual characters who inhabit
this fantastical account of Christmas happenings in the miniature village of Duxbury Sea Town. My fondest hope is that, as
you read the story, you will insert yourself into Christmas and experience it from the inside out . . . lest I remain the
only gray-haired "child" lost in flights of fantasy during the Christmas season, this "hallow'd and gracious time."

In The Little Toy Soldier On The Covered Bridge: A Christmas Encounter In The Miniature New England Village Of Duxbury, author
Coolidge Wilson takes his young readers on an exciting adventure in a tale of three young children, a toy solider, and a toy
dog who are all transported to the miniature village of Duxbury Sea Town. There they search for a lost boy and encounter a
host of unusual and memorable characters along the way. The Little Toy Soldier On The Covered Bridge is a welcome and highly
recommended addition to the growing library of classic Christmas literature with its underlying message that grace and faith
live within us all -- and sometimes revealing itself in rusted tin toys and floppy-eared dogs!

From the ever-changing chameleon to the flower-like mantis, the bright stripes of the corn snake to the dramatic display of
a jungle bird, you can glimpse the dazzling world of some of this Earth's most fascinating creatures. I like looking at the
Comics section of newspapers to find that pair of drawings depicting the same scene. We are told there are differences between
the two. LOOK AGAIN! is a book with a similar idea, only it has gloriously colored artwork of humming birds & anteaters;
snow tigers & peacocks. Wolves & sea gulls; caribou & seals. Tadpoles & salmon; kingfishers & ducks. Giraffe & lynx; cheetah
& meerkats. Fang tooth fish & comb jelly to name a few - what a grand feast for the eyes! ..................

I stumbled over this book while on a short trip to Louisiana during the Christmas season a couple of years ago. I had been
baking some cookies and as I flipped though the pages I came to a recipe (sesame seed cookies) that wasn't just close, it
was exactly the same as the one I'd just baked. I turned to a few more recipes and found more and more of them them that seemed
like the same as the ones I'd been using for years. I had to buy it. When I got it home and started reading it I noticed and
even that not only the recipes but also the names or people in the stories were similar to some of those in my family. This
was spooky. It was as if there was an entire group of people with exactly the same heritage, traditions, culture, recipes,
etc.
If you are from the western New York area and you neglected to collect your grandmothers' recipes, fear not. This book is your answer.
The recipes work. You need to be careful with then as some of the yields are huge. There are a few errors but for the most part this book is a treasure trove of classic Sicilian-American recipes.

I purchased this book recently at a bookstore in Baton Rouge, LA. I am originally from New Orleans and relocated to TX after
Katrina. I am of Italian descent and was saddened when I lost several family recipes in the floodwaters. Reading Nancy's
book was like going into a time capsule for me. She gives a wonderful history of the Sicilians coming to Southern Louisiana,
followed by several wonderful recipes that she has collected. It brings back some really great memories for me, especially
the discussions of the St Joseph's altars. After the storm I found I have become quite reminiscent of the past, so buying
Nancy's book was a no-brainer for me.
For those outside of the Southern Louisiana area, I recommend this book to you as well. There are some really good recipes in there!!!! It is definitely authentic Sicilian if that is what you are looking for.

Those who love to use natural methods for their family planning this is a good book for them. First get a background knowledge
and follow teaching guide through the charts available. As some NFP organizations recomend this book for their teaching you
will find it is very easy to follow this. If you are already a member of such an organization, you will gain a better training
by refering this book. The charts will help you to keep recods and finally make a decision by talking to your huby/wife.

I am a registered nurse, and I was very skeptical about this book when a friend handed it to me. However, when I read it
cover to cover, including all of the research data, I was thoroughly impressed and felt that it all made perfect sense. I
left the other methods of birth control that we had been using (and disliking!) behind, and gave Love and Fertility a try.
It was simply presented and yet thorough, and it WORKS. We avoided pregnancy for two and a half years, as intended, and then
achieved pregnancy with ONE TRY! It had taken four years with our first child, and almost a year for our second. With the
third, we followed the Ovulation Method, and it worked immediately! I have shared this book with many friends who wanted
"out" of other methods of birth control, and the book has given every one of them the confidence to do so. I cannot say enough
about it!

While visiting Theresa Delsoin in Florida, I watched her spend many many hours writing and researching to bring her family
story Malindys Freedom to life. Watching the painstaking work involved in writing a book gave me a greater appreciation of
writers. Since this is her third book (the others were written in while Theresa was residing in Belize), she never allowed
me to read anything until it was completed... I cried when I read Malindys Freedom... its a profound reading. I am so proud
of her.

When I started reading Malindy's Freedom, I could not put the book down. The story was so well written and descriptive.
It is a book for all times and races. It is about loving, family unity and unfortunately about a terrible time in American's
history -that peculiar institution called slavery. The way the authors wrote the book dealt with the human condition and how
inspite of extreme hardships, the human spirit prevails through all the diversity. Malindy and her family emerges victoriously
with love still in tact. The book also explores a period of the State of Missouri's history that many folk do not know about.
I recommend this book highly for it is a book about family and how the human spirit thrives and overcomes difficult times.
It is a excellent historical account with good research.
History gives us information to look at what happened and how it has shaped our lives today. With this information, there is an opportunity for us to not repeat the mistakes that some of ancestors made, and draw from the strengths of many of our ancestors who did live their lives to make a difference for all mankind. This book has inspired me more so than ever to make a difference. This book is a classic and should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for literature for it promotes, love, spirituality, forgiveness and understanding.

without doubt Wilson and Reeder's book is THE source of information for people looking for mammals in museums and old scientific
publications. the superb listing of synonyms, the listings of the scientist describing the clades, and the brief biogeographic
notes makes this book invaluable for people having any taxonomic question. The main attitude seems to be one of splitters,
giving a lot of specific names to various populations others consider a single species, the biogeography can be a little more
detailed, but there is no other source with that thoroughness and completeness in mammalian taxonomy.

An Excellent Overview of US Army Divisions

Review Date: 2004-01-28
Most books on the subject cover specific divisions only; these are usually of interest only to former members. Other books
on wars, campaigns, or battles only refer to divisions as participants (albeit essential). This work, on the other hand, takes
Army divisions on a nuts-and-bolts approach. It analyzes the evolving structure of these organizations over time. Doctrine,
equipment, and the battlefield environment imposed changes on divisions throughout the 20th century. These changes were intended
to create the optimum mix of weapons and personnel (both specialties and numbers) that would ensure both survival and success
in combat. The survey also documents how fiscal restraints always affected the "ideal" or "required" structure and produced
compromises in organizational design and equipping of units with modern weapon systems. The tables and figures are complementary
to the text and not just space fillers; taken together they document the ebb and flow of Army combat power throughout the
20th century. This book makes a great compliment to Mansoor's work on US infantry divisions in Europe during World War II.
This is an essential reference for anyone interested in the US Army.

Through the beneficence of a marvelous person I was finally able to read this book. It is full of the pain and absurdity
of living. Mr. McLiam Wilson has an amazing capacity for observation and the recording of that observation. I am truly sorry
that this little book is out of print. I sincerely can not describe the feelings that this little book evoked in me. I
can recommend, however, that if you like any of McLiam Wilson's books that you beg, borrow, hound the publisher or do something
drastic to get your hands on "Manfred's Pain". You won't forget it.
