This book is an outstanding reference for the primary care pediatrician in office practice. It is much better oriented to day-to-day pediatrics than Nelson's and its imitators. The CD-ROM is very useful and easy to navigate. As a bonus, the CD-ROM contains all of the excellent illustrations for Zitelli & Davis' superb Atlas of Pediatric Physical Diagnosis.

"The Process of Investigation" is an excellent reference for both the new and the experienced investigator. The book is filled with useful information, case examples and formats that can be directly applied to your own investigative work.

"The Process of Investigation: is divided into five major sections:
1. Fundamentals of Security Investigation
2. Methods of Security Investigation
3. Building a Case
4. Applying Investigative Strategies
5. Technological and Specialized Investigative Techniques

Although I have been involved in security and investigations for many years, I still found "The Process of Investigation" to be a very useful reference, and one which I now use when teaching investigation classes.

Highly Recommended!

This book is an excellent resource for someone who either has some familiarity in the field of Private Investigations, or for someone who is entering the field and needs to become more familiar with terminology and techniques. The book focuses an entire section on the "Who What When Where Why and How's" for investigations, which I found to be very informative. The information is accurate and is of such high quality that this book is used as recommended reference material for some State Written Examinations for Private Detective Licenses. That should say it all.

I really enjoyed this book. I have been investigating crimes in the public sector for almost a decade. This book gave me some new ideas and is a great resource for those transitioning to the private sector or just getting into it. I found this book to be very informative and would recommend it to anyone that is going into the field or is already in the field of private investigations.

An icon of the unobtainable desires of our hearts

Poor old Prowlpuss. A sweetheart at the core, yet driven by hormones, he can't help himself. He indulges himself in his passions with abandon: alley fights and prowling, yowling for the love of a distant desire. The world conspires to keep him where he is, in the beloved company of his old Nellie Smith. Prowlpuss is an icon in our home, a beloved imaginary part of the childhood of our two girls, ages 6 and 5. We have read this book in the evenings on the big bed for several years now, and can nearly recite it from cover to cover. For us, hearing the words "Prowlpuss is cunning and wily and sly, a king size cat with one ear and one eye," evokes images of our family snuggled up together. Highly recommended for its look at forlorn resignation in the face of unquenched desire, and its quiet acceptance of all the good things we already have. Children with big ol' boy cats at home will especially enjoy a visit to this tom's world.

Prowlpuss is for all ages!

I bought this book for the little girl I babysit for's third birthday. I was attracted by the rich colours of the cover illustration, the roll-off-your-tongue title and being a cat person, the subject. When I opened and read the T.S. Eliotesque rhymes, I knew I had to have it. I read it aloud in the car. My eight year-old brother loved it. My forty year-old mother loved it. Thirteen year-old me adored it and didn't want to give it up. Now, more than a year later, ordering a copy as a Christmas present for my two year-old cousin Emily, I'm also getting a copy for myself.

Wonderful photography journey into the vast beauty that is Puerto Rico. The book, part of a two-book series on the island (the other is on it's capital) are excellent additions for anyone interested in Puerto Rico and it's diverse physical and cultural beauty. The book's great price, format (paperback) and the excellent editorial team who assembled this book make it hard to put down. Buy one for yourself and one for a friend. You will feel that you are on the island once you open the first few pages.

we live in broad brook, connecticut and this is the first year we've had kayaks. in the early summer we met a woman on the scantic river near the somersville dam and she recommended this book. best tip of the year. there are so many great paddles in here that you'd never know about just by looking on a map. we'd been driving around, shooting in the dark, and mostly being disappointed by what we found. every paddle we've taken out of the book has been excellent. can't recommend it highly enough.

Radical Change is the product of insight and intuition about today's young adults and their involvement with literature. It presents a new way of looking at literature and understanding books that differ sharply from traditional expectations. Eliza T. Dresang clearly spent a lot of time and hard work to make this document as informative as possible. One of the main ideas of the book, I believe, is that it is possible to teach about (and learn about) literature without utilizing customs. Not only does Dresang approach many aspects of literature, but she also takes a look at the Internet and technology. As stated in the pre-publication comments, "This book is a comprehensive guide to the finest technology-related literature for youth- for anyone who is involved with the new digital era."

Harry and Penelope Potter went to London to see Art Collingsworth get married. During the bachelor party Harry changed. One would almost think he was...well... possessed. Art and Penny begin to investigate the sudden changes in Harry's character.

Chester Pease was a cheat who died at the age of twenty-one. After being trapped in a whiskey bottle for years, Harry literally drinks in the spirit. Chester is determined to take over Harry's body. Art and Penny are determined to stop him with the help of Dr. Gruenstein. Together they concoct a plan to lure the spirit away.

Now, if only Art could marry Penny, instead of the ice princess.

In Victorian England, Art Collingsworth, a British aristocrat, knows that he must meet his family responsibilities by marrying a rich middle class woman. He will perform his duty by wedding the crass but opulent Julliette Griffin who will fill up the family's depleted bank account. He tries not to resent his obligation to his family, who supported him during his wild, adventurous youth. However, his resignation to his fate turns to anger when his American friend Harry Potter and his sister Penny visit him. Unlike the icy Julliette, Penny is warm and vivacious. However, Art is unaware that Penny loves him.

Although neither are prepared to act on their mutual attraction, the dissent into madness by Harry forces the couple into close proximity. Desperate, Art and Penny consult with a noted Austrian psychiatrist who observes Harry's bizarre behavior and concludes that the American is possessed by a malevolent spirit. While trying to find a way to expel the demon without harming Harry, Penny and Art give in to their desires even as they know they have no future together.

RESTLESS SPIRITS is an entertaining and delightful different addition to the "Haunting Hearts" series, a supernatural frolic within a Victorian England background. The novel strips away the polished civility practiced by the upper class who regard themselves as superior beings. Rachel Wilson has created an engaging heroine who is determined to fashion the life she wants for herself in spite of the dictates of society. The audience will care for her even as they place two thumbs down to the arrogant aristocratic hero.

A fun combo of Western Americana and Victorian England

Miss Penelope Potter and her beloved brother Harry are en route from Montana to London to visit with Harry's best friend, Arthur Collingsworth. Penny fell in love with Arthur four years ago when he visited the Potter ranch. Now that she is eighteen, she hopes to impress Art with her ladylike decorum--even though the reason she and Harry are traveling England is to attend Art's nupitals.

After Penny and Harry arrive, Harry starts acting strange--agressive and violent. Penny and Art must join forces to figure out what's wrong with Harry--while, of course, fighting their attraction for each other. After all, Art will soon be marrying the lady his family chose for him, and Penny knows that marriage cannot fit in with her plans to see the world and write travel articles.

RESTLESS SPIRITS is a fun combination of Western Americana and Victorian England. Poor Penny tries with all her might to act like a lady, but her American honesty and outspokeness always come through--making her one of the most delightful heroines I've met in a long time! The paranormal elements are not at all overpowering, and there is plenty of focus on the romance even with the problem of how to return Harry back to normal, with just the right touch of Ms. Wilson's wacky signature humor. There's even an epilogue (a feature I wish more romances would have!) so we get a glimpse of what happens to the characters after they've ridden off into the sunset. I hope someday we'll get Harry's story, too. If you've never read Rachel Wilson (who also writes as Emma Craig and Alice Duncan) or a Jove Haunting Hearts, now's a great time to start!

As a medical device industry executive I found this book extremely useful as I explore ways to track samples, instruments and other "soft" assets in a hospital environment. I appreciate this is not an obscure technical treatise or a textbook but rather a review of the capabilities, limitations and applications of RFID. It gives me the wherewithal now to think out of the box as my group designs high value products where tracking and confidentiality are important. Well written with very crisp and useful graphics.

I have just read RFID - Item Level Management and I am thoroughly impressed. It explains the technology in such a way that even non-engineers like myself can understand it. My company is looking at RFID as a way to combat counterfeit goods, and this informative book explains how we can proceed in selecting our RFID solution and even how to implement it. The authors explained not only the advantages of item level tagging but also the challenges and limitations. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand better the opportunities that ILT affords us.

I don't usually write reviews for the products I buy on Amazon, but do rely partly on the reviews posted by others for products I consider buying from Amazon or elsewhere. In the case of this book, I felt compelled to return the favor of giving a review for all the reviews I have found helpful over the years.

I keep hearing about RFID and how it is the leap in technology that goes beyond the bar code. Since I am involved in clinical trials, I wanted to learn what this all about and how it might apply to my profession. I've looked at RFID books in bookstores, but most of them were too technical for my level. I'm more of an end user, not an IT techie. This book gave some good basics on what RFID can and can't be expected to do and why there are so many different shapes, sizes and read distances of RFID tags. Tags that work on small sample vials may not be suited for use on large boxes coming from far away places where the intent is to have many entities utilize the same RFID tag on the box.

If your goal it to develop a basic understanding what RFID is, what it is not, what it can and can't do, how to determine the right kind of RFID technology for your intended application, how to maintain privacy where needed, and want a short lecture on system implementation, this book will be worthy of your reading time.

This book has helped me more than any other book I have read related to recovery from childhood wounds. My addiction to books led me to read hundreds of books on recovery issues (especially when I was going through my own discovery phase of recovery from childhood physical, psychological, emotional and sexual wounds, including just about every book on shame ever written (I admire John Bradshaw's work as well). I highly recommend this book to all of the ladies that I sponsor in recovery and I have purchased a copy of it for my counselor who has a love of books as well. I have not seen anything like this book. Reading through the material related to each of the 12 "shaming messages" increased my awareness 10 fold and helped me to identify with the core beliefs that I held about myself for so long. God bless Dr. Wilson! Phenomenal book!

SEEING IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-02
I simply saw Robert Wilson's breathtakingly theatrical production of Richard Wagner's LOHENGRIN at the Metropolitan Opera one time, a few seasons ago, and I was hooked.

This production, although certainly unconventional--there is absolutely nothing representational or realistic on the stage for the entire length of the performance--tries to help the viewer listen even more carefully to the gorgeous music, to examine the characters on the stage and then to see the work in a totally different light.

Light, in fact, is of supreme importance in all of Wilson's works, as one can witness in this invaluable book of photographs and essays on one of the most important, creative theatre directors and designers working today.

Anyone who has seen any theatrical piece designed and/or directed by Wilson, may like it, dislike it, be forever changed by it....but will never forget it. Wilson's work with frequent collaborator, Philip Glass (i.e. EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH), his beginnings (DEAFMAN GLANCE at the Festival of Nancy, France), his work with celebrities (Jessye Norman in GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING at the Theatre des Champs Elysses), work in the U.S. (i.e. KNEE PLAYS with a score by David Byrne),standard opera productions (i.e. SALOME at La Scala) are all given their due in this lengthy, gorgeously designed volume.

Besides the essays and photographs (color and black & white) there is a complete chronology of Wilson's works up to and including his production of Stravinsky's OEDIPUS REX paired with Bartok's BLUEBEARD'S CASTLE for Opera Zurich, TIME ROCKER by Lou Reed in Hamburg and Virgil Thompson's FOUR SAINTS IN THREE ACTS for the Edinburgh Festival, all in 1996. Theatre, film, video, solo exhibitions, museum installations, awards and selected publications are all listed with complete descriptions and vital facts. For anyone interested in where World Theatre has been and where it is going, this book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Of course, you might not like Robert Wilson at all, and will assume, therefore, that this book is equally bad, since it is about a topic an artist - you do not like. However, let us put the book into the perspective of what it is a pictorial and essay romp through the lifes work of a major theatrical artist. This book is huge if you are looking for a coffee table book about Robert Wilson, this is it. This thing is bloody heavy. The pages are crisp and thick, and it is loaded, absolutely loaded, with photos of Wilsons stagecraft. The photos and the stories cover both the development of theatrical ideas, and also the live performances, so you can see shots of the stages with and without actors, and during rehearsals and during shows. For the person interested in theater, or other visual art, Robert Wilson is a guy who should be studied. He paints with light, has some pretty unconventional methods of movement, use of space, and design of stage. What is so compelling about Wilson is that nothing unnecessary happens on stage every movement, whether a nod of the head, a twitch of the hand, a move of the arm are all planned and staged; every costume, every prop, every chair are all designed specifically for a production, and placed with precise exactitude to make the entirety of the stage balanced with the story being told. Hes an amazing artist, and an even more amazing theatrical designer. For the person new to Robert Wilson, you might be most interested by his stagings of known works LOHENGRIN at the Met, or DIE ZAUBERFLOTE, or a host of other well-known pieces. The Wilson novitiate, knowing those stories, will get a better idea of how Wilson thinks and stages these things. Looking at pictures of his own works, which you might not be familiar with, makes it difficult to tell just what hes doing.

It is laid out in a mostly linear fashion, beginning in the 60s, and working through to the present. The essays and text is helpful and dense with information, and offers many insights into what Robert Wilson has been, and still is, trying to evoke with his incredible and unique theatrical vision.

This book excels at offering a glimpse of Robert Wilsons work and philosophy. Of course, since this is mainly a picture book, it is not as insightful or dense as a pure book of text might be, but you cant speak of Wilson without showing some pictures, so a book of text would be useless anyway.

My only beef with this book is that it does not have enough pictures. But, its already hundreds of pages long and extremely heavy, so obviously this is merely the wish of a fan, not a criticism of the book itself.

This book also excels within the genre of books about visual art. It is well organized, well indexed, the pictures are sharp and in focus and gloriously show the vivid colors that Robert Wilson loves to use. The craftmanship is excellent, the binding superb, the paper thick and long-lasting, etc. etc. etc. You might think I dwell on the physical aspect of the book too much, but for a [price] book, you better be getting something not only of content quality, but of physical quality, and this book delivers.

If you are a fan of Wilson, or a fan of the theater, this book is one of my top recommends. I admit, I am a huge fan of Wilson, so I have that bias, but I love to page through this thing to be inspired and to get lost in his wonderful aesthetic.

Kudos to the publisher, and kudos to the authors/editor and Robert Wilson.
