What good are those proofreading marks on your paper if you have no idea how to fix the problem? Most English grammar books use so much technical jargon that the writer just gives up. This book lays out the problem using a minimum of grammatical terms and then clearly shows how to write the word or passage correctly. Use it as a reference book or go through it chapter by chapter; grammar will finally make sense.

As an English teacher, I often find it difficult attaining grammar books that are accessable to all students. The Least You Should Know About English provides comprehensive lessons that students can understand, and also gives a wealth of exercises. The book deals with all grammar errors-fragments, usage, parallel structure, shifts in time, apostrophe-as well as proofreading exercies. For times you struggle with the correct answer, an answer key is provided. I found this book ideal in my high school classroom, since so many students lack the grammar background needed to be successful in writing.

WONDERFUL BOOK!

I have taught with this book many times. It has clear explanations of grammar basics, lots of exercises all through, and ALL the answers in the back, so students can self-educate to a certain extent. One of the finest books for college developmental English courses. It also has a superb bank of exercise and progress tests - available for instructors.

I was introduced to this text a number of years ago when teaching in a community college in California. Every other English textbook I have seen since has dissatisfied me. Glazier's text can be used for classroom teaching or for self-paced instruction and can be adapted for any level from middle school through college. My students have commented after the first few lessons, "Wow -- nobody ever taught it to me this way!" Whether your student is advanced or needs extra help, this text can provide it all. I'll never use anything else for teaching grammar and mechanics. Denise Stickel

I read this book in 1991 and it changed my life. I was single and it laid the groundwork for me to be happily married later. When my Bible study class was looking for a new book to read together, I told them this was the one and re-read it again. All our lives have changed. My recommittment to the principles of extreme faith and the freedom submission brings in every area of my life has recharged my marriage and my spiritual life dramatically. A Christian's life is all about submission--to God first, to each other, to our bosses, to our churches, and of course wives to our husbands. But if you think husbands have it easy, just read the book! I'd say the group learned as much about leadership as submission!

God's plan is pure perfection!

This book revolutionized my life. I get it now- how I can find freedom - total liberation - when I am in God's plan. Just reading the book will not be enough. It's when we trust God and obey His ways that one begins to experience change. Not change in others, although the ripple effects are inevitable, but change in our own perspective. A must read for every Christian who desires a close walk with God.

Working on Being Liberated

A friend of mine let me borrow the first book written by the MS Wilson. I read it, agreed with some points and pondered other points. I allowed life to work on me. I felt the need to order my own copy and found out that the author had written a revised version of the original book. I ordered several copies.

Life has a funny way of working things out in your life. I now realize there was a lot of truth in what the author had to say. If I stopped fighting to prove her wrong I could make some positive change in my own relationship with my spouse.

The author rewrote the book because she too had to live out what she had written some 15+ years earlier. Her husband had to remind her to read her own book.

This is a book that one SHOULD read over and over again, and allow yourself to grow.

Phenomenal.

For everyone--male or female, young or older--who wants to truly understand submission in the divine sense. Unfortunately, our culture has distorted it, and therefore many people--even Christians--do not understand what the concept truly means.
A little book that has the power--if applied in your life--to make big changes...

This has been my go-to book for fun and relaxation...I thoroughly enjoyed reading every page and found myself chuckling frequently over the word plays and historical references with a twist. For instance in Wilson's carefully created parallel universe, there's mention of the War of the Posies like our War of the Roses...very funny:) Furthermore, as a lover of quantum physics, I love the fact that Wilson's Rapunzel lives in a parallel universe in a different space/time dimension; these are all quantum mechanical ideas. And Ms. Wilson's Othruthian Rapunzel is no mere trophy female like our Earthly Rapunzel. Rather, she is a both strong and beautiful young woman with incredible stamina. She's able to climb tall mountains, save animals, and even save a human male named Hemingway (who is under a spell). Hemingway has been turned into a cat by his half-sister. This Othruthian Rapunzel is in fact what I call a She-ro, for she risks her life more than once to save this human-cat Hemingway. My only criticism is that it was too short because it left me wanting more!

A real treat for cat lovers

This tongue in cheek novel is written in a light and witty style, reminiscent of a cross between Doug Adams and Rita Mae Brown. The furry hero, Hemingway, is a wonderfully caustic cat character and his 'damsel to the rescue', Rapunzel is a real delight. These are characters you care about, which is saying something. I hope there IS a sequal, as was hinted at in the book's ending.

What happened to Rapunzel after she got out of the tower?

Review Date: 2003-05-04
Thanks to Argus, a wizard, we get to finally get to find out what happened to Rapunzel after the tower. Though the story of Rapunzel is a fairy tale to us, to Argus and the Othruthians, the people among whom she lives, Rapunzel's quite real. Even though the Orthruthians live in a parallel universe, there are a few similarities to ours. After Rapunzel is rescued by Prince D'arius, she discovers that Earth and Othruth co-exist.

Before I go on, I'd like to tell you that in the land of Orthruth, they have computers and electricity, but no cars--a case of magick meeting science. It is things like this that make this story so intriguing. Some of the modern conveniences help to balance out the story of helping Rapunzel find her way.

What Rapunzel believes for her future is not to be. So she seeks a future that can bring her some peace. In her travels, Rapunzel runs into an injured cat. He tells her ... tells her? *g* ... that he is trapped and that he needs her help. This cat is named Hemingway, and if you were not already into THE LIFE AND TIMES OF RAPUNZEL, from here on you will not be able to take your eyes off of the page!

Hemingway is actually Prince Hemingway, of the kingdom of Khatt. His half-sister hexed him in order to take over the kingdom, and turned him into a cat. He escaped to try and find a wizard with similar skills to remove the hex, in order to try and save his kingdom. Rapunzel and Hemingway embark upon a journey to find just the person they need. They get into all kinds of scrapes, and even end up on Earth more than once in their trek.

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF RAPUNZEL is a wonderful fantasy story blended with a nice tale of romance and humor. This book was full of everything fantasy - wizards, gargoyles, dragons and more. The excitement was non-stop.

Rapunzel truly loves Hemingway as he's her only friend, whereas Hemingway cannot believe how strong Rapunzel is and what she is going through in order to help him. The character development was amazing in THE LIFE AND TIMES OF RAPUNZEL. Rapunzel is truly awesome. She kept her head in all situations. She proved loyalty beyond belief. Hemingway will impress each and every reader. He never lost sight of his objective. He had to endure quite a bit in order to achieve his goals. As a feline and a man, Hemingway made an incredible impression on me. Ms. Wilson did a tremendous job, and I'm pleased to add THE LIFE AND TIMES OF RAPUNZEL to my keeper shelf.

Rapunzel feels gratitude towards her rescuer Prince D'arius for she loathes the tower where she was incarcerated until he freed her. She falls in love with her hero, but alas this is not a fairy tale where they live happily ever after. D'arius is a married man. Rapunzel is saddened but wiser to the insincere male world she has just joined.

Rapunzel refuses to let down her hair ever again when the next male in her life, Master Eremis the silversmith, turns out to be as much as a cad as her prince. On the other hand, she feels quite safe with a male cat Hemingway that she finds until she learns that her feline is actually a prince caught in a changing spell. He persuades the kind but still naive Rapunzel to save his people from an evil that wants to destroy them, but to do so they must to travel through time to enlist a help of a twentieth century word wizard sharing a surname and more with the feline prince.

This adult fairy tale will leave readers laughing especially at the puns and other bon mots that would send Sigmund Furred to a littered couch. The story line is loaded with amusing action as Rapunzel gains insight to the road rules of the real world which leads to fans enjoying this facetious follow-up to the Rapunzel tale. Aside to Staci Layne Wilson: In an emergency room in Germany, doctors perform surgery opening the stomach of a wolf in an attempt to free a senior citizen swallowed alive while the woman's red hooded granddaughter walks the waiting room.

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF RAPUNZEL is a humorous and enjoyable trip through Punsville, USA. This fantasy world is filled with wonderfully imaginative things like Trolls, gargoyle monkeys (who resemble those found in Oz), dragons, hags and crones, and even historical figures (caricatures?) in cameo roles. Equally "punny" are the book's characters: Sigmund Furred, Manny Manx, Siameez, or King Paathrea of Khatt (no cats allowed there, however). I laughed until my ribs ached, and kept turning pages eager for the next surprise.

In a market of crossover books and literary genres expanding beyond normalized boundaries, I have to say that no one I've read writes a fractured fairy tale like Staci Wilson. This is the first time I've reviewed for her and I'm glad I did. She's already a noted author in horror and it looks like she's well on her way to creating a niche for herself as a fantasy author as well...

Our daughter cut her teeth on this book! (-Really, there are tiny teeth marks all along the edges.) So, how could we ever discard such a beloved treasure? Our 'baby' is 5 now, and we STILL love to read this book together at bedtime. She has long memorized the words and can read the book without the book even being present.

Boasting colorful and fun illustrations, the message in this book is: what you give out comes back to you! It begins: 'Blow a kiss and let it go, you never know how love will grow' -the chain reaction of love and kisses get passed along to several animals (a goose, a fish, a fox, a cow and more)and ends up right back where it began, with the girl.

Whenever our daughter catches us saying 'You never know' in our everday conversations, she finishes with 'How love will grow!'

The book is pretty short, so it's good for when you and your little one are too tired to go through 'Green Eggs & Ham.' All you page skippers out there know what I'm talking about!

This book would make a great gift for someone expecting, or for a toddler's birthday. This is a favorite bedtime book in our home!

I am in awe of the subjects Heather Gemmen tackles! What a fabulous way to expose young people to the serious global issues we face today! To do this through Christian eyes is even cooler, because it reminds us that we, as Christians, have a responsibility to our planet and to people in need all over the world. Lydia Barnes is like a modern Nancy Drew with a kick. After reading the first two books I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the third.

That said, as a professional editor I rarely find a writer who can connect so well with her target audience. KIDS LOVE THIS BOOK!

Every child I've seen within arm's reach of it has devoured it from cover to cover. Most adults do too.

This is a fun read, and the author manages to work a strong message into it without harming the story.

Lydia Barnes and the Blood Diamond Treasure is an exciting start to a promising adventure series. Fourteen-year-old Lydia travels to West Africa with her very cool dad and confronts many issues socially, spiritually, and personally. She takes to heart how the epidemic of AIDS affects people personally. She meets people who have been deeply wounded by the hardships of war. She struggles with the loss of her own mother and learns to trust God.

This book is a page-turner and a tear-jerker. No matter what your age, you'll read it through in one sitting.

Regardless if you're a kid by age or by heart, you'll love Lydia Barnes and the Blood Diamond Treasure! I bought a copy for myself and 5 of the young preteens in my life. I couldn't put it down, finishing it in one sitting, and the girls were almost as bad. I finally had to make them put the book away when the day got too dark outside to read where we were.

I highly recommend this book. You'll fall in love with Lydia, her dad, and the friends they live with in this book. Join Lydia as she discovers Liberia, learns more about herself and her faith, and understands the struggles of people in other parts of the world.

I loved the toddler years...my child became her own person. Yet with that development came a lot of "no" and "mine"
behaviors. Beth's book helped soothe my nerves and reassure me during this challenging phase of motherhood. She reminded me of the importance of this stage of development, not only for my child, but for me as a mother.
Honestly, there are a lot of parallels between the toddler and teen years.
Beth's book helped me with both.

As the mother of five children, I have found that you need to be a different parent to each child due to the individual qualities they each possess. There is no 'one size fits all'. That is why I have appreciated this book so much. Each time I read through a meditation, it encourages me to apply my inner wisdom to suit the challenges arising from that paticular child's situation. In essence, it is a new book each time I pick it up. We all need a calming voice of reason when we are challenged by toddler behavior on a daily basis. This book provides that voice.

This book is a real winner. As a mother of nineteen month old twins, I do not have a lot of time on my hands, however, I am always in need of a little inspiration. The author combines pithy quotations with great, short, reflective writing. It is easy to pick up and set down at a moment's notice, since each thought is roughly one pargraph in length. I have passed it along to several of my friends and am hoping for a sequel!

This is the original work by E.B.Wilson where the G and F matrix formalism is presented. The G matrix, related to kinetic vibrational energy is built uppon the elements of the B matrix defined from "internal coordinates". Many quantum chemistry software packages use this exact methodology to build normal coordinates. For those working on Quantum Chem Molecular Orbital calculations, this book is a must.

Reissue of original, which was published in 1955, in the pre-computer age. Solid QM description of vibrating polyatomic molecules, and their interaction with EM radiation. The authors exploit group theory (molecular symmetry) to reduce the calculational work as much as possible. Good introduction to the use of finite groups, e.g. how to exploit the hexagonal symmetry of the benzene molecule.

In this one, Wilson writes definitively, math/scientifically, and with sincerity of purpose. Don't get confused by the word 'theory.' There's as much math in here as Born and Wolf's P of O. The only diffenrence is Wilson's is much more algebra-based. The mathematics (i.e. isomorphs) is 'taught', without breaking the flow, and is not assumed that you know the stuff already--- or can find it somewhere else. This book stands out because there is more science in here than names of scientists, and his references are for real. I would also say it was unique because books with titles like 'Molecular Vibrations' are usually skipped over for titles like 'mechanics' or 'quantum theory.' Spectroscopy was a major advancement in science, and it is good to see it skillfully treated with enlightening clarity.

Dobie tells the story of the impact that the introduction of the horse had on life in the Americas, with an emphasis on the American West. His historical research is good, citing a number of written sources (and even giving new perspective on Fremont or Pike).

But the real color of the book comes from his anecdotes, many of which come from discussions with cowboys and mustangers who lived through the final days of the open range in the American West. Great color, great stories throughout!

Highly entertaining, yet with good research and historical value. Wonderful insight into the character of horses.

A truly magnificent book

I'm not sure why, but this book just completely captured my imagination and ran with it. This is one of m favorite books of all time. What I really love, though, is the copy I read was a musty old tome, probably printed in the 30s or 40s, from my library, that just had the mosr wonderful smell and the comfortable, dusty feel. If at all possible, read a copy like that.

Learn a little Spanish and a lot about some special horses

My major was "Spanish North American History," and my wife and I developed a ranch and bred horses for more than ten years. So, this book was down my alley. In fact, it was a book of assigned reading in a course I took. It is primarily about the Spanish BARB that the Spaniards brought to America, and that became the root stock of Mustangs that still run wild in many western states. They have bred into themselves qualities that make them special, especially as cow ponies, and explain why they are sometimes referred to as "rock horses," because they do not need to be shod. Dobie is as much a story teller as he is a historian with a style most becoming. He was born in the 1800s and knew the people and the times of which he speaks. Mexicans were most familiar with Mustangs, but the Plains Indians learned to handle them and became great riders in their own right, as when on the hunt. The Mustang was essential to the time in which they existed, and were the catalyst for the life-style of their day. Wealth was counted in the number of horses a brave had, and horse stealing was the avocation that pitted tribe against tribe at the expense of human life as well as horse flesh, much of which was eaten. Whites ate them, too, usually when either they or their horses played out. Times have changed, but there is another book that as a sequel to this one expresses the way in which it changed. I refer to A BEAUTIFUL, CRUEL COUNTRY, by Eva Antonia Wilber-Cruce who was born about the turn of the 20th century, and raised in Southern Arizona. The rock horses played a significant role in their lives when horses were still essential in such a rough land. I recommend The Musangs be read first, then Eva's book, for those who even yet have a fondness for horses. If I were still raising horses, I would, after reading these books, look seriously for a rock horse I could call my own. I cannot believe how much I learned from reading Dobie's book. Little is left to the imagination.

Wow.

What would the Old West have been without the Mustang? Frank Dobie regales the reader with tales ranging from the legendary Pacing White Mustang to more obscure but nonetheless fascinating legends such as Blue Streak and Starface, to insight into the mysterious origins of the breed.

I read this book for the first time years ago, and I still can't get enough of it! This book is must-read for any horse lover or Wild West enthusiast!
