To buy or sell property, you NEED an Exclusive Buyers Agent

BOUGHT, NOT SOLD will help you recognize the consumer quality revolution in real estate -- it's all about customer awareness and empowerment. You now have resources at your disposal at an unprecedented level when you engage the services of an exclusive buyers' agent. Note: the term exclusive is most important.

As a buyer, your purchase prospects should be unlimited -- don't accept anything less. An exclusive buyers' agent will make available properties for sale by owner and even properties that may not be listed for sale. You didn't know that? Neither did we, but now we know that an agency's listings, or even those in the local Multiple Listing Service are not a complete presentation of what is really on the market!

For example, as a seller, you employ a real estate agent to help you sell your property; as the employer, you determine the level of service to be provided by your employee, as well as the fee you agree to pay for those services. Ray Wilson advises you on how to select a real estate agent to represent your interests -- and gives you information that empowers you as an employer, with practical advice on defining your service expectations. Insight into avoiding traps set up by the traditional commission set up in favor of listing agents is invaluable -- this is where you really can save by understanding details seldom revealed to sellers or buyers.

This book is highly recommended by the webmasters of pru-florida.com -- Prudent Florida Home Buyers and Sellers, the realty web site for consumers.

This book is about the real world that they did not teach me or my classmates in law school! I have been in the business of real estate brokerage and buyer agency for close to a decade and I still found myself highlighting throughout the book.

Six years ago organized real estate was still in a struggle to preclude real estate brokers and agents from representing buyers. Today, every part-time, know-nothing with a license is a "buyers' agent." (The organized real estate industry is still fighting laws that force them to tell sellers and buyers who they represent!) What do you really know about agents, selling real estate, or buying real estate? What does "buyers' agent" really mean? What are the agents' and brokers' duties? What does "your" agent owe you? Why is a dual agency too often dual fraud?

If you are about to enter the real estate game, this book will tell you the rules. Every homebuyer and seller needs this book for his or her financial self-defense and for his or her peace of mind. Will it matter to you if "your" agent harms you from malice and greed or harms you from simple stupidly? Trust me, it is going to hurt either way. You can pay attorneys thousands of dollars after the problem or you can read this book and preclude the problems before they happen.

Author is on target about who the agent really represents

Author describes the ultimate in real estate buying service. Hiring a real estate company to represent you the buyer instead of using an agent who drags you around to all of the "in house listings". The exclusive buyer agent works only for your best interest. You hire the agent to help you buy the best home, save money, and avoid surprises. Having bought three homes and using an Exclusive Buyer's Agent on our last home, I know from personal experience what a godsend this is. A true EBA tells the buyer everything. This is so popular now that almost all agents claim to be Buyer Agents, look for the company that does not represent sellers, hence "exclusive" buyer agents. All others try to get you to buy the in house listing and think you shouldn't mind their conflict of interest.

This is a must for first time home buyers!

There is too litle written that takes a consumer/buyer point of view in the home buying process. This book and good support will save many buyers thousands of dollars.

I volunteer at a nature & wildlife educational museum. Creatures of the Night is the perfect book to read to visiting young children especially during the month of October. The pictures are delightful & inspire discussion in the 3 to 7 yr old age group. (If you order this book be sure it is a Creatures of the Night written for young children not one for adults with the same title but different authors)

Written in rhyme, this colorful picture book will soon become your child's favorite bedtime story. Creatures of the Night will explain the often scary sounds heard at night, shedding light on the creatures that come out to play.

The little "masked bandit" raccoon wears his clever disguise. The cute little field mice run, jump, and play. Perhaps one of the most prominent nighttime noises is the melody chirped by the crickets. They are pictured as happy smiling little critters. The frogs and toads join in the serenade, as the lightening bugs dance along. The coyote calls his friends to come and play. They walk and jump and run. They dance and sing their serenades until the night is done.

Written for children ages three to seven, it is also a book an older child will enjoy reading to a sibling. Creatures of the Night is colorfully illustrated by Rodger B. Wilson, who is the recipient of many awards for graphic design and illustrations. Author, Stephen J. Brooks has written several children's books. He has served as a Federal Agent for over a decade and writes to comfort children.

Has your young child ever wondered about those noises in the night, or about those creatures that come out to play only at night?

Creatures of the Night is a lovely rhyming story about those nocturnal creatures that "Come out to run and play," like "The sly and wily old raccoon,/With a mask around its eyes,/Sneaks about in search of food/in his ever so clever disguise."

Other creatures of the night mentioned in the book include the owl, field mice, crickets, frogs, fireflies, coyote, opossum, and muskrats.

The rhymes are delightful and the illustrations beautiful, with a serene, peaceful quality to them, bringing to life the magic of the night and its creatures. It is the kind of book young children will want to listen to in bed at night many times, if only to look at the lovely images of the animals.

A book that both teaches and stimulates young children's imagination, Creatures of the Night is a keeper, and well-worth its hardcover price.

This book took me less than a day to read, but about a week to digest and I found myself rereading pages in order to make sure I was not missing a clue. D. Harlan Wilson has, what can only be described as, a "Webster-like" vocabulary. Sharp readers will pick up all manner of enigmatical pop culture references. The action was fast paced and often appalling and hilarious at the same time. I could easily try to break this story down into an existentialist rambling, but I thoroughly enjoyed trying to analyze the obscure references to today's sad attempt at cultural reformation. It felt like I was sitting in an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000, laughing at half of the jokes and wondering at the rest. Readers would be advised to pack a dictionary and get ready to feast on the carnage.

D. Harlan Wilson's Dr. Identity is a hip, darkly funny satire that focuses on newly minted assistant professor Dr. Blah Blah Blah, the robot he occasionally sends to teach his students, and the overall absurdities of academic life. Shortly after beginning his stint at Corndog University, Dr. Blah finds that his colleagues demonstrate a covert animosity toward him, which, in addition to his students' tardiness and apathy, renders his new job altogether intolerable. When a discouraged Dr. Blah sends his robot, Dr. Identity, to teach his class for him a second time in one week (which is normally a risky undertaking at Corndog U.), the machine's accidental murder of a student sets the stage for a fun, mind-bending journey, which, although completely surreal, becomes eerily reminiscent of the reader's own college experience.

In addition to the well-read hilarity of the book, Wilson's juxtaposition of the realistic and the bizarre does a great job of reinforcing aspects of the novel that parody academia and its strange, unspoken codes of conduct. This pairing becomes an elegant, economical way of suggesting that the pretensions within Corndog University's English department are just as absurd as electric sheep or neozuters having a conversation in Donaldduckspeak. For example, Wilson writes: "Bob had legally changed his surname to an author in his field who was of interest to him in some pedagogical or scholarly way. Additionally, he had done his best to dress himself up like the Russian novelist, sporting dimestore spectacles, a long greasy beard, and a motheaten overcoat. He had grafted eyebags on his face, too" (16). Poking fun at the way academics, like many other professionals, feel pressured to assume a persona, Wilson takes Dr. Blah and his colleagues beyond the stereotypical tweed blazer with suede elbow patches, often emphasizing some characters' desire for plastic surgery and other physical changes to better perform their jobs. Depicting commonplace behavior in an exaggerated and surreal way, Wilson's parody subtly hints at the ridiculousness of doing a job and trying to act the part at the expense of one's individuality, keeping the reader laughing out loud all the while.

Dr. Identity's exploration of technology and the ways it shapes the characters' sense of self is also impressive. Often focusing on the way electronics and other innovations begin to dominate rather than merely mediate one's day-to-day experiences, characters sometimes demonstrate a desire to imitate technology or even become mechanical themselves. For example, Wilson writes in Dr. Identity: "I thought he was an android. He was wearing mechanical contact lenses. Apparently it's a new fashion statement that surfaced yesterday and was disseminated last night via the Schizoverse...That was the de facto scoop your student-things gave me. To be nonhuman. Nobody told me about that kind of technodesire" (32). Using the same juxtaposition of the everyday with the bizarre found in previous passages to help the reader envision his or her own comfortable world becoming the futuristic one in this novel, Wilson's depictions of the characters' identity being shaped by media and technology forces prove both realistic and chilling.

A mix of Orwellian satire, existential philosophy, and strikingly original humor, Dr. Identity is an erudite and entertaining read. Anyone who enjoys zoot suits, fedoras, an intellectually engaging parody, or a skillfully constructed narrative will be missing out if they don't add this book to their library. Five stars.

I have been a fan of D.Harlan Wilson's very descriptive and at times disturbing stories, but never have I been able to connect the dots until reading Dr. Identity. Reminding me a bit of Kurt Vonnegut's work, his heroes are flawed, and their enemies are not individuals, but culture, society and history, which are certainly making a mess of our planet. Bliptown, it's enhabitants and cultures are so outrageous that at first glance the reader might not see the reality inside, but take a closer look and you will see that it is the current state of the world staring you in the face. This is a very daring and truthful novel - one that every participant of society should read read and learn from!

Well if it isn't Dr. Identity....

After reading the first few chapters of this book, you'll think to yourself "Wow, this guy REALLY knows his sci-fi."

I say this because any science fiction fan will know that sci-fi novels often are sprinkled (or doused) with its own lingo. Authors create a future and go about sprucing everyday items up and giving them knew names. Sometimes this makes the entire story/novel confusing, sometimes it works to create a richer world that just feels more real. Which one is DR. IDENTITY? Well, let's just say it's a rich, rich world.

D. Harlan Wilson has obviously studied science-fiction. You can tell just by the way he uses language in order to paint the world he created. It's quite similar, in fact, to Philip K. Dick. I believe that there is indeed shadows of PKD throughout DR. IDENTITY and this is not a bad thing at all.

One thing that sets THIS book and the works of PKD is the humor. DR.IDENTITY is filled with it. Even in the ultraviolent, splatter(cyber)punk parts.. you can't help but chuckle at the absurd lengths of bloody carnage.

The book is also a furious attack on academia. D. Harlan Wilson seems to be no stranger to that world and has had enough experience to see through the B.S. of the academic world. Throughout this book you'll see not so subtle jabs at that world and you'll laugh. However, through that laughter you'll realize that it's actually quite sad considering how very true it is. In fact, if I was a department head or a Dean at a university, I wouldn't be happy at all by this book. I'd probably dismiss it as fluff or garbage. But thank god I'm not because this book is anything but fluff or garbage. The author himself calls it a "pulp science fiction" novel... but really it feels like more than that.

Okay, so what about action? Any action?

Yes.

Loads of it. Bloody action. More action than KILL BILL. More violence than GRINDHOUSE. More blood than any move I've ever seen. Is it disturbing then? Is D. Harlan Wilson the next Edward Lee? No, no. The violence, like I mentioned, is done in such an over-the-top way that it's not stomach-churning.

CONS: I think towards the end it slows a bit and doesn't wrap itself up as neatly as I would have liked. Throughout the book, the chapters switch perspectives from Dr.-----, Dr. Identity, and then third person. I just felt that toward the end, the reader lost connection with Dr.Identity and Dr.-----.. and so it wasn't as satisfying as I had expected. I admit that others may feel differently. But if I was pressed to come up with a criticism (which is only fair), I'd say that's about it.

DR.IDENTITY is a worthwhile book because it's entertaining and vivid, funny and violent. It has lots to say about academia, capitalism, and society. If you like your sci-fi funny and irreverent, buy this book and read it.

There really was something compelling about Factory when they started. I still have many of the original UK records on vinyl (Joy Division, Section 25, New Order). CDs don't do the designs justice - too small ! They were concieved as RECORD sleeves and worked as art objects that way. I remember my delight at figuring out the color coding on Power, Corrruption and Lies after staring at it for a while.
Has any other label managed to build a design mystique like it (Blue Note perhaps ?). Their output got less interesting and less elaborate later on.
This book is a great nostalgia trip for any original factory fans, and hopefuly conveys the same sense to younger readers. Nice coffee-table book.

This book is an awesome look back at some of the best artwork and packaging of its time. The footnotes for each "Fac" are interesting and the reproductions of the artwork are showcased nicely. I only wish there were some photos of the packaging, for instance the famous Blue Monday single with the die-cut, it would have been nice to see how it looked. Still, I think this is a great book!

While I loved the hero, the heroine Mary struck me as being a bit of a Miss Martyr, as well as not very bright! If one could tell from his looks that Traywick was a gross bully, & feel uncomfortable with him at first meeting (and all the characters in the book felt this way!) why in heck would she end up giving him her son? It made no sense, no matter how "desperate" she was. I thought the plot of the lovers separated by war & misunderstandings was sweet enough, & appreciated when Nick rescued Mary from her situation, but in the end there was nothing memorable about the book, except for Nick's "disability", which he overcame pretty easily anyway. So...Not a badly written romance, but just barely recommended.

I would give this book 10 stars if I could!

PRIDE always brings payback.
Nick Stanton returns from the war wounded and inherits his father's title etc. He is now the Duke of Vail. And a legend.

Lost in the mists of time, we soon learn that he has been searching for Mary Winters. And maybe afraid of finding her.

When he does find her, she is being charged with the attempted murder of her employer, Marcus Traywick. She soon learns that she will find no justice in the courts.

The only thing to save her is the announcement by the Duke of Vail claiming her as his wife.
The only thing she wants is Richard Traywick, her son. Therein lies the fascinating plot of His Secret Duchess.
All Marcus wants is revenge against Mary who dared to say no and then the Duke who whisked her away. Ah, and the plot thickens.
Save me from these silly women who think they have the answers.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- I would list all [almost all] of Wilson's books as keepers.

HIS SECRET DUCHESS is truly one of the most remarkable books I have ever read. It was one of the first romance books I read and it definitely encouraged me to read more. I picked it up one night when I couldn't find anything else to read. And boy was I glad I did! Once I started, I couldn't seem to put it down.

From the first scenes we meet the young lovers as they have to say goodbye. They have an unforgettable lovemaking, exchange their vows and in the process concieve the one bond that sustain and bind them forever.

Nick goes off to war and Mary is left with their son and noone to turn to after her father's death. In desperation, she turns to the one man who vows to ruine her and the two men she loves most.

Years after Nick returns from battle scarred physically and emotionally, he learns Mary is in need of help and goes to her rescue. After that, what begins is a plot full of twists and intrigue. They fight together to get their son back and also rekindle a love that never ended.

HIS SECRET DUCHESS is one wild roller coaster that never leaves you bored for a moment. I have read it many times and will read it whenever I am in the mood to witness the power of love. Highly, highly recommended!

Raw, down-and-dirty, and unfiltered, "I Romanced the Stone" is the story of an aging hippy and his descent into the madness of becoming a crack user. Marvin Wilson had used just about every drug known to man during the Peace and Love Years of the 60s so what would one little experimental hit from the crack pipe hurt? He soon found out that smoking crack cocaine wasn't the same as smoking marijuana, the main drug of choice for the "tune in, turn off, and drop out generation." Marvin is a very lucky man in the fact that he is still alive to tell this compelling story. "I Romanced the Stone" is a must read for all who have even THOUGHT about taking that first hit from the crack pipe.

Little did I know when I sat down to read Marvin Wilson's I Romanced The Stone" I would be reading about myself and my addictions. Different drugs of choice, of course (computer, television and procrastination), but addictions nonetheless. Anything that keeps you from being your true and total self and anything that keeps one from finding their true inner peace is a drug. And just when I had "serious doubts about my ever being whole again", here comes a book so poignant, so deep, and so apropos I now know that healing is possible. To experience the joy of being healed, delivered and set free has to be an awesome feeling. A must read for everyone who is addicted or not! Wilson writes about what he knows best and that is the life of men at sea. Hollywood is really missing the boat, this would make one fine motion picture.

I am a Coast Guard veteran and this was recommended to me by a Coast Guard vet. I served 1970-1977 and at that time we did what were called Ocean Stations. Ocean Station Bravo was up in the North Atlantic Davis Straits, so this brought back many memories. I have read it several times because it is a wonderful powerful portrayal of life in that area as well as a study in character development. It is the type of book you wish would never end because you become tied into the characters. Each time I finish I have a different view on life and can't wait to read it again. A must read.

First the bottom line -- if you've somehow ended up here reading this review, don't blow it now -- find and read this great book! Of course Ice Brothers, written in 1979, is by now a difficult book to locate, but I assure you it is worth the effort. It is the story of how a young man of 22, drawn almost impetuously to the Coast Guard by the onset of war in December 1941, serves, first as executive officer, then as captain of the Arluk, a converted fishing trawler refitted to serve during World War 2 in the icy waters and coast of Greenland. Paul Schuman, the young hero, is shown at the beginning of the story as unsure in his life and marriage, and we watch him during the novel, while continuing to fight internal uncertainties, growing in confidence and competence. But the novel is much more than a story of personal growth -- it is a war novel, with battles and adventure I will not give away here; it is a true story of the sea, and the land (and native peoples) of Greenland; it is a story of memorable characters, including Paul's fellow officer Nathan Green, with his personal private suffering, and probably most of all, "Mad Mowrey," Captain of the Arluk, a character who deseves to be part of the fictional lexicon with the likes of Captain Queeg. There is even a love interest within the novel, as improbable as it may seem. It is a long novel, over 500 pages long, which gives the reader a chance to fully feel the place and time. And, true to the other best works of Sloan Wilson, Ice Brothers is an individual tale about facing enemies, from hostile weather and terrain, to enemy troops and at times even problems within the ship's own sailors, to fighting personal demons of loneliness and self-doubts. This is quite simply a terrific book -- as I started by saying, if you should happen upon this review and have the remotest interest in World War 2 or the sea -- and actually even if you don't -- then (trust me) go find this book. It will be well worth your while, and you will probably end up adding your own superlative review of this book. Come on, let's start a trend!

Even Men Can Get Something Great

Though the title can be a little dismaying, I kind of like the contrary style. It softens a bit when you get past the cover, and what you're left with is a solid compilation of essays about humane values. It's not overtly religious, or abstract. I have a compilation myself, and I know what work it can be to succeed. I think Mrs. Ellison has. Also look into the late Katherine Martin's books "Women of..." for example, the solid book "Women of Courage."

Love the Title!

Not only was I compelled to buy this book because of the luring title, I was totally captured by the few stories I allowed myself to read still in the bookstore. When I realized I'd been standing in the middle of the aisle for about twenty minutes, book in hand, I knew I had to bring it home! I saw my thoughts in so many others' opinions, and expanded my thoughts through new opinions presented as well. It is an excellent forum for giving many great women a platform for (hypothetical)ultimate power! More importantly, it's not anti-men, but pro-women, and pro-empowerment of women. It was so fun to see what women would do if they ruled the world. A great read, share this book with every woman you know!

I was truly honored to be a part of this piece of work. While my essay (A Room of Our Own) and some others within the book are based in humor and meant to lighten the mood, there are many more meant to make you pause, reflect, then ask (and answer) the questions, 'what IF?' 'why not?' and 'what can I do?'.

Some essays will break your heart or bring a tear to your eye, others will call you to act now in hopes of truly changing the world we live in for the better. Share it with a mother, a sister, a friend and then imagine the possibilities if we really did rule the world.

A must-read for anyone in this election year

This book is an impressive compilation of essays by a multitude of women on topics as varied as our individual histories. As a contributor, I was excited to be a part of this amazing project, but the end result surpassed even my expectations. The essays are engrossing and thought-provoking, backed up by facts and resources for the reader to continue her or his own research on the subject. This is a must-read for anyone, especially in such a deciding election year.

I have heard some people get defensive when I tell them about the book, saying that the title and subject overlooks bigger problems with government and the way things are run. However, they are missing the main point -- that women's voices need to be heard, our concerns addressed, and our governments equally represented by women as they are by men. This book does not assert that women are superior to men, or that we SHOULD run the world, but that perhaps if women were given an equal voice and representation, things might be different.

This book is an excellent representation of what is important to women right now. I want women to read this book and find themselves here, men to read it and take it to heart, and politicians to read it and think about who they are representing. Oh, and don't forget to VOTE!

When I gave this to my girlfriend, she sniffed and said, "What do you mean 'if'?" But now she LOVES this book. She's giving it to all her girlfriends for Christmas. I hope she doesn't break the bank.

Have you ever read The Little Book of Calm? If not, you missed a great opportunity of relaxation and wisdom in a little tiny pocket book. It is full of advice to follow and thoughts to inspire. Open it at any page and you will find a path to inner peace. One of my favourite is: Pretend it's Saturday!

I am buying this book for my friend as an inside joke, because we both love the show "Black Books". However, it looks like it has some pretty good insights. It's certainly positive!

This little book was sent to me from a friend in New Zealand, prior to finals. I now carry it everywhere I go, it fits so nicely in my backpack--or my back pocket. Very simple but profound suggestions for reducing stress. Makes me happy! Excellent gift to yourself or one you love.

My mother is from Meriwether County Georgia. I was first introduced to this book as a youngster and have listened to the oral accounts from my grandmother and other relatives and friends who were there to witness these events first hand. I own the video and the book. I am fascinated by the wit and demeanor of Sheriff Lamar Potts.

I took pleasure in reading this book and watching the video because I am familiar with the area and I could go to actual people who were and still are living in the area at that time and listen to thier stories about this gruesome murder. The made for TV Movie was the topping on the cake!

Margaret Barnes' detailed description of the events puts you right in place as though you were there in the 1940's. I highly recommend this book for all who want to know a part of history in rural Georgia.

This is one of the most gripping true crime stories I have ever read and I have read many, many of these. This wonderful story relates actual incidents during a horrendous, brutal murder, undeluted arrogance of power, sheer stupidy on the part of the perpetrator and a brave sheriff whose singular determination to arrest and prosecute the offender will warm the heart of anyone with a sense of justice and equality for those of us with a lesser standing in a community.

This is a great story with great characters and like all good true stories, its better than fiction. For those who would read it, understand it is NOT, as some reviewers suggest, a commentary on Southern oppression. It is instead a great account of good actually winning over evil. The sort of corruption represented by the land baron in this story could be found in every State of Union during the period discussed. This book is not about racism (the victim was white) but was instead about the abuse of power on one hand and the contrast of honor on the other. It is NOT about the South, though the incident occurred in Georgia. It is about right vs. wrong. That even applies in the historically corrupt, post-depression Northern regions of the U.S. It is a great read about a honorable law man standing against criminal behavior and political corruption. Don't miss it if you enjoy true crime and great characters and you like to admire honorable Southern Sheriffs who will stop at nothing to do what is right.

I saw the television movie prior to reading the book and was blown away by the superb acting done by Johnny Cash and Andy Griffith. Never would I have believed that the Sheriff of Mayberry could be so cruel and brutal. Upon reading the book, I was struck by the closeness with which the movie tracked with the book. My list of heroes was growing rather short but Sheriff Potts became a permanent addition. His dedication, perseverance and honesty represent the best of those qualities we seek in a public servant. It's a pity he can't be cloned. Buy the book, see the movie and be impressed.
